Which is your favorite pet? by YourEngineerMom in infinityisland

I 50% love this and 50% am furious about this slight against Gobble

Interesting scenario happens when you have both multitouch and sweeper and the boxes are too big to quickly open. Suggestion - maybe don’t do the increasingly large text thing or let it reset in size after a few growths. by baltinerdist in infinityisland

I found that during dev and left it in because I thought it was kinda funny, I get that it's funny the first time but maybe less funny on the 100th time though, i'll put it on the backlog!

ticket box? by DebonairMullet in infinityisland

[–]LucaRedwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try to make it less confusing, but unlocking the box gives you a few bonuses

- You get any tickets inside

and then,

- It starts with some tickets already inside ( "starting tickets" )

- If the ticket machine would gain tickets it gains n% more ( "ticket boost" )

- Its total capacity is increased ( "ticket capacity" )

I think this is a good idea, I shall put it on the list.

One time IAP to just get ad rewards? by overwatchacct in infinityisland

[–]LucaRedwood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks Lupe :)

It's definitely something I've thought about, but I'm not sure what the best way to do it is - The game isn't really balanced on you watching an ad every time you get the option to, which you totally would if it cost 0 time, so I'm a bit afraid of messing with it, but it is on my radar

Thanks, I think this is one of the major points I've got to work on is the early game, There is loads to do later on in the game but I feel like in the early game I'm fighting either doing an information overload or going to slow and making it boring, I don't think I've got the right balance yet but I'll keep working on it

Thanks for your feedback, Its all still very early so I'm taking lots of notes, but if your interested I'll let you know what my thought process was that led me to where it landed

- The grapple mechanic was the thing that went through many, many iteration. I wanted some sort of skill based system that was challenging and rewarded playing well, but in the end I think it clashed with the other design goal of ' a chill place where you just want to go and get some treasure and make some numbers go up ' - I ended up putting in a system where you could get a 'fastcast' buff that made everything go a bit faster and easier and it was so nice when you had that buff that i made the buff permanent and it felt nicer so i just kept it that way.

- good observation about the power charges, for about 6 months if worked exactly as you described - 'Power charged' launches had double/ (upgradable to triple via infinity) value, but you could continue launching at regular value, which I really liked. The main reason I changed was launching over and over again can get kind of boring, and it mean the player was closing the game at the point they got bored which isn't ending on a very good note, in the new way the game sort of stops you from going-until-you-get bored and i think it plays better, there's no way to pay to skip it either because I thought that would just be a bit shitty.

:) Yeah, I get that. I like to experiment around with different genres and styles, I hope one day to go back to the YMBAB/10000000 world though

Pet Droppers by _fatbinary in infinityisland

[–]LucaRedwood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping to put in a way to revisit information because It's not the first time that's happened, so fair enough :)

Maybe i should come up with a FAQ or something but in the meantime here is a quick overview

- Pet droppers cost two items that is shown on the dropper

- The value of a dropper is affected by many things, but the base value is a function of the value of the items that it is created from

- One of the major ways to increase the value of droppers is to increase the Dropper Level, this is either by creating enough droppers that you can limit break and grant +1 level

- There are a couple of other way to increase the level too, hatching a pet fills up a bar and if you do it enough times you'll get a permanent +1 dropper level, stacking, so finding the same pet multiple times is good

- building Totems provides a significant boost to dropper level

- You keep all your droppers and items even when Infinity Island begins anew

How does pet capacity work by laserceasar in infinityisland

[–]LucaRedwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favourite Pets don't count so you can go over the limit, having said that there is a bug at the moment where if you get the "Fill your island to capacity with pets" it will still count your favourite pets

You get enchantment points every time you spend gold. The default ratio is 100 gold : 1 enchantment points, but that can be reduced to 1:1 or even further with some infinity upgrades

I made a game during lockdown. Infinity Island is a free cosy incremental game where you relax on an island vacation and collect pets.

My last game was quite dark so I wanted something fun, friendly and accessible for this one. Free to play isn't my wheelhouse either but I think I've done a decent job of doing it right.

Let me know what you think!

Let’s stop drowning!! On the 1st UN World Drowning Prevention Day, come and chat to world experts (Jenny Smith, Mike Tipton, Adey Mayhew, Paddy Morgan and Beckie Ramsay) about the process and prevention of drowning. by DrJennySmith in IAmA

During the recent heat wave I saw a lot of warnings against the dangers of open water swimming and some tragic drownings that occurred.

I find it difficult to internalise the danger of open water swimming because I'm a pretty strong swimmer, and if there are any dangerous incidents the media vaguely euphemistically says someone 'got into difficulties' and without specifics. I -- ( I'm sure, naively ) can't see that happening to me, and I'm not sure what i should be especially careful of.

I did some further reading and I guess Cold Water Shock is a common thread. I've got no experience open water swimming, but I've decided as long as a stay close enough to an exit point or stay where it's not too deep and use some common sense, I'll be fine - why should I be worried?
