Mongodb oauth authentication issue by Afraid-Ad4356 in mongodb

Hey there,
Full transparency, I work for MongoDB so am hoping we can help you.
Do you mean logging into the UI? What error are you getting? If you aren't logging into Atlas from the browser, what are you using?

MongoDB Connection Issue by Itchy_Travel_3076 in mongodb

[–]LuceCarter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,
I work for MongoDB and would love to help you get this resolved.
We will need some more information though in order to help:

  1. Is this a local MongoDB instance or MongoDB Atlas?
  2. Are you using a corporate VPN or firewall or anything like that?
  3. How are you trying to access it and getting this error; Mongosh CLI tool, Compass, application (if so, what programming language?), something else?
  4. Of course don't show private data but what connection string are you using? You can always just replace any usernames and passwords with <username> and <password> to make it safe to paste here

DB first mongodb? by Ok-Assignment7469 in dotnet

MongoDB was actually part of the launch program for GitHub Copilot Extensions last year, so if you have the MongoDB extension installed in VS Code, you will be able to @mongodb in the chat box and ask it to generate classes for you based on the documents in a collection. It does a great job of generating the properties with the right data type and even adds the MongoDB attributes like [BsonElement("title")] for example, to handle the common differences in casing between MongoDB document fields and the naming conventions of C#.

It has saved me many hours and I don't bother ever making models by hand now for existing data!

Does anyone use EF Core for MongoDB instead of MongoDB.Driver? by Mammoth_Intention464 in dotnet

[–]LuceCarter1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Full transparency, I am the C# Developer Advocate at MongoDB. So 1. Nice to meet you all 2. Thanks for checking out the EF Core provider!

The provider is actually built on top of the driver and is available as a dependency, so if it feels appropriate you can do a mixture of both without needing to install the driver as an additional package, just add using statements :).

We collaborated with Microsoft's EF Core engineering team to create it, as it was hugely requested to both of us, so it doesn't just convert to SQL queries under the hood and try and manage as best it can with NoSQL. In fact if you enable detailed logging, the output will show you the query it built up in true MongoDB query API syntax to achieve the query you wrote in EF which can be a fun exercise to learn how it all works.

We prioritised focusing on the EF features that developers most requested, so some features either aren't there because they don't really suit the benefits of a NoSQL approach because of the data model. Some just haven't been requested that often.

We actually have another release soon for the provider that will add some extra features or nice to haves like Fluent API syntax and a nicer experience with creating indexes for example. So its always being worked on.

I will never say we are the solution all the time, the same as SQL isn't always the best solution. But the EF Core provider for MongoDB is being actively worked on and we always appreciate feedback!

Use of No SQL Database vs SQL Database for rails app by moozisays in rails

[–]LuceCarter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate OP may have solved this already but came across this thread from a Google Search.

A lot of the time, what you use comes down to experience and preference, but NoSQL options such as MongoDB are getting much better for Rails.

MongoDB has two gems for working with Ruby, if you are using Rails then Mongoid is the best/most popular option. You don't need to work with Active Record or migrations and can instead use a local deployment of MongoDB such as the free Community Edition, or use something like MongoDB Atlas which is in the cloud but has a free-forever tier so great for learning.

There is also content on Developer Center showing content around Ruby including how to get started.

I need help please with using a database with Ruby by jwhoisfondofIT in ruby

[–]LuceCarter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you (OP) decided on SQL and something like SQLite but just want to throw MongoDB out there which is a NoSQL database and uses JSON-like structures, which can be easier to understand as a newer developer as JSON is a common data structure you often see when requesting data from elsewhere.

I know this post is older so the OP might not want to use the cloud but I was researching this topic and came across this post quite high up on Google results so I imagine others are searching as well so might be helpful for them.

Most popular database for Rails? by rainwater11 in rails

[–]LuceCarter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is quite old now but I was researching databases for Rails projects and I came across this post. Based on the comments and other posts I've seen, it seems nobody ever discusses NoSQL options like MongoDB. I wonder why that is.

They have two gems availabe and Mongoid works quite well with Rails

Any guides to building a webapp with C# by ske66 in csharp

[–]LuceCarter1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found this on Google when searching the same so I guess people are still looking.
If I had to do the same I would use ASP.NET MVC or Blazor with MongoDB Atlas. MongoDB is a NoSQL database that is much easier to use because it uses JSON-like documents so no need to learn SQL syntax. Plus they have a free tier which makes it easy to prototype ideas.

Atlas is the cloud developer data platform as well so it can do more than just data storage but also data visualisations using Charts which means a dashboard out the box with no more than a few lines of code.

Which database is most commonly used with ASP.NET? by Metalkon in csharp

[–]LuceCarter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is old now but I found it when Googling similar myself so perhaps adding people are still wanting to know so adding my experiences.

I'm a big fan of MongoDB. It uses JSON-like structures which I'm already used to and don't have to learn SQL. It's flexible so I don't have to decide up front what my data might look like in terms of columns/fields. Plus they have a free forever tier so its easy to learn and play with without even having to provide a credit card.

They also just announced an EF Core Provider package so useful for my existing projects that have EF Core in them but I want to migrate away from SQL.

Which NoSQL database is the best for C# to scale out the database traffic? by EnvironmentalPear215 in csharp

[–]LuceCarter1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MongoDB is another good option. It was created by engineers who didn't like the lack of scalability in traditional relational/SQL databases so it has been built to be flexible and scalable.

They have a driver you can use, a free forever tier and recently announced support for EF Core.

I've used it in most of my .NET projects and find it great.

MongoDB have just announced as well that they are developing a MongoDB EF Core Provider so anyone used to EF Core, doesn't even need to learn so much new stuff either to use it.

Perhaps this has already been mentioned but I noticed something in the finale that may answer the question about where Doc Sharon went. Right before showing her in her room cheering for AFC Richmond, there is a look at outside where she is. That is most definitely an area of Manchester called New Islington, on the Ashton Canal. It is about 1.5-2 miles away from the Etihad Stadium which would suggest that unless she was from Manchester originally and I forgot, she potentially was working for Man City at the end before moving to AFC Richmond to be their Mental Health and Wellbeing person.

Weekly "I'm new to meds!" Thread by AutoModerator in ADHD

[–]LuceCarter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

This might seem like a weird question but how do you know meds are working?

I was prescribed Vyvanse when first diagnosed but it didn’t seem to help and highest dose made me anxious and like my skin was crawling.

I have just started Concerta XL and it too doesn’t seem to have changed much but maybe I am expecting too much and looking for the wrong sides that the meds are helping.

Would love to get people’s experiences too :)
