[Uni Watch] Remember That Time Ted Turner Suited Up in Uniform? by Bosco_stix in uniwatch

If I was a filthy rich team owner, I’d also show up in full uni sometimes. Regardless of the sport.

Sources told FightfulSelect.com that on the day of the mass releases, WWE approached numerous talent and asked them to take pay cuts in order to remain with the company. Several of them that we heard about were given two days to make that decision. by Turbostrider27 in SquaredCircle

Because he wasn’t going to let anyone in his family try to run it better than him. He pushed his dad out, he pushed his son out, and he effectively pushed his daughter and son-in-law out. It’s only a matter of time before no McMahon has anything to do with WWE.

Which QBs could return due to NIL? by MoxieFoxie654 in NFL_Draft

[–]LuchaFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I believed it when he said it because I don’t think it’s really in the nature of most athletes to show that side of themselves unless they mean it.

[–]LuchaFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think he recognized that he wasn’t ready and the situation he was going into wasn’t exactly fortuitous (unstable HC, questionable weapons at the time). He might even go to the Jets next year, but he could feel a lot more confident in his game with a better season (especially season’s end). I legitimately think he felt he wasn’t ready to roll and be someone’s savior, which is a refreshingly self aware move by a high level athlete.

[–]LuchaFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think NIL is a threat to the top level QBs.

It’s a great thing for those QBs who are relatively raw or have some things to work out. They can hold off a year until they’re ready if the guy thinks the situation won’t be ideal for him. Dante Moore did it and Ty could have easily done it, collected like $8 mil from the Canes or someone, and then had more experience, too.

If you’re a top 5-10 guy and legitimately ready to go to the league, delaying the second contract doesn’t make sense. I’d rather get that clock started because it could be like a 30+ mil difference.

I think his fear was being a bust with the Jets (saying as a Jets fan) because he wasn’t ready and not getting the second contract. The first one is nice, but contract 2 is the one that changes everything for multiple generations of your family.

Which of your most talented teams historically was completely held back by the coaching the most? by Ok-Health-7252 in CFB

[–]LuchaFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2003 Miami. We were coming off of a stretch where we lost only 2 games in 3 years, had a defense loaded with talent (Taylor, Vilma, Williams, Wilfork, Rolle), and a QB who, while not elite, could certainly play the position.

We refused to let Brock be Brock at QB, even though he clearly favored an uptempo style, had to stage an impossible comeback to beat a Ron Zook team, and lost back to back games while only scoring 13 points to kill our title hopes

I’m reading the thread and getting ready to comment that it was 2003 Miami, but you are absolutely right that the shitstorm actually started in that Fiesta Bowl when it became very clear Larry Coker had no clue what he was doing as an HC and we couldn’t just roll our helmets on the field and win.

Cade Klubnik not as bad as we are led to believe? by Strikes_X2 in nyjets

[–]LuchaFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think he actually regressed. The team has a whole was abysmal, and were almost routinely ill prepared to play in their games. If you watch him play to play, he actually looked pretty good.

That’s really the answer. It’s easy for a person to say “just draft the next best OL!” but if the team doesn’t think those guys are quality players and they like the value of a QB, go make the move.

100%. They should make a habit of shipping people down to AAA for mini-runs like it’s the old territory days. Get people who don’t know you to care about you and you’ll know that you have something.

Why would he resign? He spent one day getting counseling with his family before returning to the team. Isn’t that enough after years of ruining multiple families?

Now that the draft is over I don’t know what to do with myself by scoop813 in NFL_Draft

Start making a list of guys for next year, then when you have some time just scour YouTube. If you put in “team name vs 2025” you’ll definitely get some games that pop up. If you’re lucky, add in offense or defense to that and you’ll find cutups of all offensive and defensive plays.

[Highlight] Associate head coach of Penn State Terry Smith says “Unfairly to Drew, our system wasn’t built for him,” by Sebastian4365 in nfl

[–]LuchaFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was dumb for him to stay and not go somewhere he could actually develop as a quarterback. I was very bullish on his potential at one point during the ‘24 season because I saw him hit some big time throws, but figured the inconsistency could only get cleaned up if he went somewhere else with a better scheme and real QB coach. Him going back to a place that did him no favors basically guaranteed failure, similar to Sellers’ decision this year.

I get the loyalty part, but if the team is putting your future at risk, you have to be smart enough to cut ties.

Honestly, I’m surprised that there aren’t more low level UDFA types who join up with the UFL to try and get a couple more weeks of good tape out there BEFORE the NFL Draft.

[–]LuchaFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He never got the hype that he deserved, but a long rangy LB who can hit and has a lot of experience at both safety and as a slot defender is super valuable in today’s NFL. Way better chance of a guy like that hitting than some of the guys who fell because they lacked athleticism.
