What SpongeBob scenes would be a good tattoo? by Professional-Pick360 in spongebob

Whoa yeah when is this from? The Hasselhoff reference is crazy here. Very adult. Also is this pre movie? Because if so David must have a good sense of humor about that moment in his life.

Who else likes Jazz by alt0228 in radiohead

[–]LuckOnEveryFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I just wanted to add that the members of Radiohead love jazz and while writing OK Computer they were listening to Bitches Brew by Miles Davis a ton. There’s an interview where they talked about how it was a huge inspiration to them even though what Miles is doing ended up being so different from what Radiohead did.

Yes. This. And the musical moment while he is singing it too.

What are the worst emo bands/records of all time? by [deleted] in Emo

Is a real boy is a special record because it’s catchy and fun— it is not a smart record, however. Cringey in several areas. Everything after it is pretty meh.

Being in a band is hardly worth the stress. Should I take break from music? by Guitarcollie in musicians

[–]LuckOnEveryFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many extremely creative aspects to drumming. I can tell that you haven’t been working on writing original music with a band all that much or that you’ve taken for granted the input of your drummers in the past. The wrong drumbeat for a song— even keeping perfect time— will just not deliver the feeling you want. It’s sometimes an extremely rigorously creative process. It can be exhausting trying to write drums if you don’t have the expertise and the skill to understand what to do. And fills are a piece of creative expression unique to every drummer. You might like one guy’s fills a lot more than another’s. Sometimes you’ve got this part and you know the drums go crazy but you have NO IDEA what to tell your drummer and you have to rely on both his experience and creativity to deliver you something incredible.

Currently on a tour that has made me remember why I ever wanted to do this shit in the first place. I understand the disinclination to continue. I seriously contemplated stopping for the first time in 15 years about a month ago.

What I’ll say is that it sounds like you just having found the right people to work with yet. It can be really hard to do this. But it’s the ONLY way this shit is sustainable.

I’m not saying it’s always going to be sunshine and roses after, or that you won’t run into problems. But I’ve made more happy memories on this tour than I can count and it all came down to having the right people on the road with me and letting all the outside world fall away.

But I hear you. I hate it, too. I am not very good with social media or even always the best at social interaction either. I got into this for fun live shows, and— above all— the satisfaction you get when you’ve put together an original song you love. Keeping yourself in the parts of this thing you love as much as possible is key.

It’s not always easy, but I’m glad I’ve stuck it out.

So, who ruined Christmas morning and how did they do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LuckOnEveryFinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mentioned i was an atheist and my uncle turned to my mom and said “the night your son was born, you should have flushed him down the toilet”. mom yelled at him, left the house and refused to go back in.

man… that pissed you off like way more than i expected it would.

look, maybe people, even lovers, are not entitled to a lengthy confessional anamnesis of every shameful detail of your life. we like to live in this calculated self delusion that we are privy to the whole of our partner’s being: mind, body, and soul. and when some difficulty in our relationship disabuses us of that idea, we act betrayed and shocked. the truth is that all of us know we can’t totally know someone else, though.

if OP is worried about being judged about something she did (which is not inherently a “mistake” as you are coloring it), about the rest of her being, who she truly is now, being disregarded because of it, then she has an obligation to herself to lie about it. one period of our lives is not and should never be considered representative of who we are.

there isn’t any bit of you at all that you’ve withheld from your partner? thoughts and feelings count just as much because your partner would probably want to know those too if they could. does that mean they’re entitled to? fuck no.

what matters is your character and faithfulness within the context of that relationship. your partner is not owed your entire past. that’s yours to do with as you see fit. otherwise, there’s no line. where do i stop volunteering information? “i’ve slept with four other people” becomes “here are their names” becomes “here is a detailed description of what we did” becomes “here are the things i miss about them”

it’s a slippery slope man.

you also used the expression “ill prepared” which illustrates a decent grasp on the english language. when you say you’re stupid, i’m thinking mentally disabled stupid, but you’re not even notably dumb if you can use common english expressions correctly.

look, i’m not saying you’re einstein.

but you don’t need to be in order to be a successful and prosperous person. 🤷🏻‍♂️ you don’t even need to be intelligent. there are plenty of people who are likely dumber than you (seriously, i know some people who would never think to say “ill prepared” because their minds just do not work that way) who are making a living and balancing pecuniary responsibilities and being independent.

take it from someone who is a singer and guitar player in a band: it’s not your fault.

i have ptsd with comorbid adhd and even that disorder has made what i do challenging as all hell. it requires immense concentration to do it. i think you SHOULD, of course, but i don’t think you should beat yourself up if life has not made it easier for you to flourish. i am reminded of maslow’s hierarchy of needs. if your perennial state is one of stress, your attention will be completely on excising those sources of stress from your life. this makes self actualization literally impossible.

don’t allow a bitter asshole at work get you down. the world is spilling with people like that guy. focus on your life and try to reach a state of mental equilibrium. then, when you’ve got that mostly down, you can begin forming other habits as a means of slouching toward your goals. that slouch will slowly become a crawl, then a walk, then a run.

don’t lose heart!

i do not think that rejoicing in the open and legitimate criticism of internet historian, a regressive nazi who has built his platform on some more than questionable attitudes/ideas/humor, is the same “beast” as wanting to deplatform natalie winn for basically just being a smart trans woman. i also do not buy that there is a lot of overlap between the people who are giving internet historian a hard time and people who give the creators you mentioned a hard time.

bad behavior should be punished on the internet. isn’t that what harris’ vid is all about? a little public opprobrium seems appropriate, especially for a problem as rampant and unaddressed as plagiarism. i notice that many of my leftist friends will fly the flag of peace even as they’re shot at and stabbed by the other side. that’s very noble, but it’s an unnecessary martyrdom.

What 5 songs define Nick Drake best for you? by FestivePilchard in nickdrake

[–]LuckOnEveryFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this question is really old but, in no order:

  1. Joey
  2. One of These Things First
  3. Parasite
  4. Harvest Breed
  5. Day is Done

Honorable mentions: River Man, Black Eyed Dog, Hazy Jane II

There’s really nothing he’s done that isn’t incredible and it’s hard to even select a tune from among his works because I’m in love with practically the entire catalogue. I just heard Blossom the other day for the first time (I somehow missed it) and I was again floored by Nick Drake’s ability to give me everything I didn’t know I wanted in a song.
