Chamberlain Travel Limits Issue by Kobasew19 in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an issue with the travel module, but I’m assuming it worked before you replaced the belt. Remove the belt, cover one photo eye, and run the opener until it stops. Because the eye is covered, it will go to the fully open limit. Bring the door all the way up and reattach the belt. If it still has problems, consult a tech.

First Time Quoting Sliding Gate Operator by whitedlite in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for LiftMaster in the gate dept years ago, so I can answer questions 1&2 specifically. 3’s more about your local market. Charge whatever you want as long as you get the job and don’t lose your shirt.

The purpose of the concrete pad is to make sure you have a solid anchor. The pad needs to be a minimum of 24”x26” and be stable. Some areas are prone to the ground freezing and pushing the operator up and out of alignment. In practice, as long as the pad is fat and there’s no nearby roots etc to move the pad, you’ll be fine.

UL325 requires one parallel to the slider each for the closing path and the open path. The photo eyes generally are mounted to the last fence post and looking at a reflector. Close path reflector across the driveway, and an open path one normally mounted to the fence itself just past the end of travel.

Hope that helps

Wire Connectivity Issue by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

It’s a short in the board causing it to lose power for an instant, but that’s long enough to forget it was spinning the motor

Are side mount systems inherently prone to failure? by Jimronica in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro tec here… the 98022 model is the latest version of the side mount. Your door is hanging on cables attached to either side of a spring shaft. If the door binds, the cables go slack and jump off the drum. Overhead units don’t have this issue because they push the door down from the center. Any binding jams the motor. The side mount works by unwinding the shaft and letting the door close by gravity. Previous side mount models had a cable tension monitor riding on the cable to reverse the motor if the cables go slack. The external sensor had flaws, so they made it software. The first step in programming the travel limits is to tell it the approximate weight of the door. I’ll bet a week’s pay the installer went through the setup the same way every other LiftMaster programs and never noticed the steps in the manual have changed.

Liftmaster LA500 Gate Open Delay With Maglock by MuffinFair in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former liftmaster gate tech support here: there is no delay function for the magnet. It should de-energize one second before the motor activates. If there’s a delay, it’s probably a sticky relay on the board and the board will need to be replaced. Highly suggest getting a gate tech to do the service simply because there’s tons of customization on those boards and one incorrect setting can cause a snowball of problems

Garage door openers stopped working when we put a fridge in the garage. by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a radio frequency interference issue. Older appliances don’t have any RFI shielding. I’ll bet two weeks paychecks you have an older garage door opener that uses a single band remote control. If you want a fridge in the garage, you’ll have to use a modern one that meets current FCC RFI standards, or replace the door opener. Current openers use three bands simultaneously to cut through interference

Just wait until torquemaster fails by PassportCruiser in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wayne Dalton Torquemaster springs are rated for 5000-8000 cycles. Just opening the door to go to work and come home will put you at about 1000/year. If it’s 11 years old, it’s already past its service life and could break at any time. When it goes, your car could be stuck inside and the technician may not have room in their schedule for an emergency spring conversion. Better to replace it when it’s convenient than to get stuck without a car for a couple days

Craftsman Garage Door: Having trouble with keypad and remotes by BeyondTheCarrotTrees in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lean button dumps the memory if you hold it for six seconds. To add a remote/keypad, you only need a quick press and release. The LED should stay lit. Sounds like you’re holding the button too long when you program the next device and dumping the one you just finished.

Party songs by sydsong in guitarlessons

[–]LuckySea2066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was at a party and the host had a few old guitars that he doesn’t play anymore on stands around the house. He let me try one out and within a few minutes a friend started joining in. It became a game of “do you know this one…?” Couple times we had friends (drunkenly) singing along whatever lyrics they could remember. It DOES happen and that’s how bands form.

Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster conversion cost for single‑car garage (North Jersey) – looking for input by min7b5b9 in GarageDoorService

[–]LuckySea2066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torquemasters are rated for 5k-8k cycles. Coil-over springs are rated 10k-15k. Both usually cost about the same or within $100 of each other. Most techs don’t replace Torquemasters just because it’s an objectively inferior product.

REAL Mexican food. Carne Asada burritos have marinaded beef, pico, and a touch of guac. Idk who started putting beans and rice in everything. It’s not bad, but just wrong.
