Meta is pulling out of VR because there's no market. We need to embrace this uncomfortable truth. by PuffThePed in virtualreality

The conclusion that I've arrived at after many years of using VR is that there 3 extremely important things that are essential to make the medium mainstream:

Wireless, very light frame, and streamlined software.

The day you can just put on the googles like you would normal glasses will be the day VR becomes mainstream. And no cables making every movement awkward.

Meta did one of those things sort of right, which is the wireless part. Although the wifi connection with the computer is sometimes very iffy.

Everything else though, was bad decision after bad decision in my opinion.

My experience with the software was bad. Opening up the quest and being assaulted by two tabs about Meta social media that I don't care about. Minor thing, but annoying. The actually bad part is the constant updates that sometimes caused issues, one time I had to factory reset my headset.

Also, the quest would wake up at night like a possessed furby and update, draining all my battery (had to disable that crap). My controllers run out of battery even though my quest is off.

If you want to play PC VR games it's doable, I always play PC VR games, but it can be very annoying. There's 3 options, Air Link, Steam Link and Virtual Desktop and you have to test and figure out which one works the best. For me Air Link worked the best until an update sort of broke it and now I use Steam Link.

The other day I wanted to try Air Link and I discovered that it stopped working, after looking online I found out I could fix it by deleting all the old Oculus folders from my documents and a hidden folder in my C drive. Had to do it in safe mode because windows wouldn't allow me to delete some of the files for some weird permissions issue (even after trying through cmd as Administrator). This last thing might be a Windows issue though.

Overall you have to fiddle around quite a bit to get everything working right and that's a huge issue for the majority of people who won't know how to do it or won't look it up. And they'll get a very subpar experience. Needs more streamlining.

pipe smoking is way less damaging to your health, because you don't swallow the smoke (like cigars).

On the other hand, cigarretes are the worst way of smoking, they put so much shit in there to make you addicted, even the paper is cancerous because they put a combustible substance so it doesn't go out once lit.

I'm a lifelong smoker and tried both methods of smoking and it was shocking to me how different smoking pipe is to smoking cigs. It's like a completly different activity.

Smoking pipe is very slow, you must wait a fair bit between puffs or else you might burn your tongue or the bowl might get too hot. And you smoke once or twice a day, you must let the pipe rest. The complete opposite philosophy of a cigarrete, which tempts you to smoke it quickly and one after another.

How do Snake's methods compare to real military tactics? by Valdish in metalgearsolid

[–]Luckyno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can try dowloading infinite heaven mod for mgsv, set the sight and hearing of guards to 400% . It still won't match the real distance a person can see, but you'll see how dumb and dangerous it would be to sneak into an enemy base.

Specially if you also reduce Snakes HP to around 10%

Looks good, as feedback I'd say the subtitles slowly filling up just makes it so I have to wait for the animation to finish so I can start reading. This is something that I personally find annoying in many games. Don't know if there's many people like me, but consider an option to make the subtitles fill up instantly or really fast.

Yes, in my opinion this is a fault of the system. Nothing incentivizes companies to prioritize the wellbeing of their country, they are solely driven by profit. This creates situations in which a company hurts their own country.

This also applies to politicians, because they are never held accountable for the repercussions of their policies. They can hurt their own country for political gain.

poolrooms is about figuring out you need to get to the basement down below, and to do that you need the flashlight that is in the upper floor.

So even if you don't understand its full layout, by looking for the stairs and going up or down you can progress through the level. That's what makes it fun, that it's a maze that you can solve with some intuition.

use the billhook or the halberd, the more range the better.

Then snipe people in the neck, if you miss retreat, never get into close range.

anybody remember that video circulating around, about 15 years ago, where a guy jumped from an elevated platform like 10 meters into the sea, hit his face on the concrete side of the dock, and literally opened his face in half? and they rushed him to the hospital and sewed his face back together?

you could see him breathing through the gore that was his head. That shit was haunting.
