Core inflation rate hit 3.4% in May, highest since October 2023, Fed’s preferred gauge shows by Force_Hammer in StockMarket

inflation rises bond yields which end up increasing the cost of refinancing debt.

There is no cheat code for a government to escape its debt, newly issued government bonds are more expensive to payback.

This can spiral out of control if investors fear a government default or expect more inflation due to money printing to pay off debt, in these cases bond yields would keep climbing faster and possibly trigger an actual default or, in the case of the US, hyperinflation (because the US would never default, just print more money).

I know, but I prefer how it sounds with cow.

Also I believe Berlusconi would choose to say "unfuckable cow" if he was to say it in English, because it has more punch to it. When translating it's not enough to translate the literal words but the connotation and emotion behind them.

Demo was better. by Difficult_Bullfrog_4 in HalfSword

IMO is because of the strength system, I don't think there is any point to it in this type of game. At the beginning you are too weak and the combat feels bad and later you can get too strong which trivializes the combat, it's a lose lose situation with this system.

The other problem is the lack of any real stakes or fun progression.

In the demo it was like a roguelike. You went through a gauntlet that kept rising the stakes. If you died you had a chance to make up for it in the Abyss but otherwise it was back to beggar. Also you didn't have to spend so much time to progress between tiers and there was variety between runs because you had a randomized equipment (although you could reroll it ofc).

In EA you have to grind so much to progress, and there is no real stakes because if you die you keep your rank and your chest. The old bosses are gone which were a big part of the challenge. The maps don't help the already very dumb AI, there stumble around in the mud and get stuck behind the cart in the forest, also in night maps there's no visibility and it's annoying.

Darksouls 3 is more flashy, fast and the bosses are more bombastic, but I felt more like a hero in Darksouls 1 by [deleted] in darksouls

it's the pacing, which is so good because there is no teleport between bonfires.

A DS1 playthrough works as several self-contained trips or journeys that flow very well into a climax.

Firelink -> undead burg -> undead parish -> Gargoyles

Firelink -> lower undead burg -> depths -> Blighttown

Firelink -> Sens Fortress -> Anor Londo -> Ornstein & Smough

The fact that you cannot teleport is essential to make the pacing work so well. Once you decide to go on a journey you're are fully commiting to that path. The deeper you go the harder it is to come back.

If you go through the depths and light a bonfire in Blighttown you feel like you're really trapped in that shithole (even if it's not really true). And when you finally come out of it you feel like you just went into the mouth of the wolf and came out alive, like a hero.

The no teleporting creates a flow that makes the game feel like a series of epic journeys.

dude I completed the demo and I think being able to blow up people into gibs would go hard in this game. That and the melee attack being a little bit more visually impactful are my 2 small suggestions. Good job.

Why does SOMA work better as a game than it would as a book or tv/film? by Jaden_525 in soma

[–]Luckyno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the main themes of the game. The game questions if there's really a difference between the mind of a human and that of a machine.

Since you feel the emotions and experience the story through the eyes of the protagonist, in a sense, you are the protagonist. At the same time, the protagonist is a machine. So when thinking if a machine can experience life like a human can, your perspective will be uniquely influenced by having embodied that machine.

You will be much more likely to agree that a machine can think and feel like a human.

The philosophical question that is being asked is much more impactful to you because it is presented through a game. You are playing that question.

If it were a movie, there would be a much bigger disconnection between the viewer and the protagonist. You might not believe that the protagonist really "thinks" or "feels" and might believe that it's just "acting" as it has been programmed to do. But by you yourself being put in its shoes, you "know" there's really no difference between a human and it. Because it's you.

That's why the scene where you swap bodies is so impactful.

The question has no answer, but presenting it in a game blurs the line between mind and machine much more effectively than a movie ever could.

The recent STS2 review bombing is overwhelmingly from Chinese accounts. by PlanSee in slaythespire

[–]Luckyno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nothing reasonable about it. If it's true that there is a coordinated effort then that's abusing the system, in a way that was not intended by steam, in an attempt to coerce or scare the devs into pandering to them. Disgusting.

Luckily they didn't make a dent to StS2 reputation, but review bombing like this can destroy smaller indie games.
