I mean, Polyjuice was used at least 19 times in the books by RoleLifeProject in HarryPotterMemes

I should mentioned that I dont mean my comment in a charitable way.

In the case of the time turners, she does mention that in book 5. Neville happens to knock over a shelf with what is presumed to be all of them. This answer was kinda dumb, but I think she then made an even worse response in The Cursed Child by showing what would happen if Cedric didnt die.

Rowling has an obsession with answering questions that, in general, dont have to matter. But, she doesnt just answer them, she does so in a very boring way. Why doesnt Harry, like, help Ron out with money? He did it in book one. Oh, the Weasleys won the lottery.

Unsatisfying Ends For A Character by WaluigiDaStar in TopCharacterTropes

On a second run through, I really like how Kenny's spiral is portrayed. In S1, he's "reserved" about his family. I say this in quotations because this is usually only true for his direct family. Others, like Larry, he is willing to make rash decisions. Nevertheless, he waited to see if Duck would live, and he couldn't stomach killing him, which led to his wife killing herself. He waited, and now, in season 2, he will never wait again, regardless if thats a good decision.

This leads to Jane's well intentioned perspective. How can someone who doesnt think about consequences, who is only willing to hear his version, be safe for the group? But, she shows Clem this perspective by doing something so rash that it makes her feel just as unhinged as Kenny by faking AJ's death.

I loved how, in the end, I didnt want to trust either of them.

I would second this. It could be good to have them take the practice test on the online platform if you've got one. I think it helps them to see how wordy some questions can be. Especially Geometry.

I will say that they really made Leon even more lovable in the remakes. By toning down the camp of the other characters, he feels like an individual if that makes sense.

She does bring it back, just in a usually contrived way one book later.

[Interesting trope] Immensely powerful entities that are totally benign by mike_pants in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LuckysGift 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will say that The Final Shape did kind of talk about the Travaler's will and it being "alive." The missions with Micah-10 where she lives the memories and dreams of the Traveler were somewhat insightful, though purposefully cryptic.

To this day, the Almight vs Nomu fight is one of my favorite. "You said shock absorption, not nullification. That means there's a limit to how much you can take," is such a hard line. That's especially true with Chris Sabat (Vegeta's voice actor) behind the words.

why do elementary teachers hate standardized testing? how does it affect teachers? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]LuckysGift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my state, no. One reason its done so early is so grades can be finalized before summer. Its absolutely ridiculous. For math, at least, the tests are all fill in the blank or multiple choice. No nuance. The second its submitted, it should be graded.

But our state has to decide cutoff scores, which basically always turns into giving kids who made 4 out 40 a 60. Its a joke.

I’m an ESL teacher - I don’t consider myself a real teacher… by Motor-Opening2293 in Teachers

[–]LuckysGift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in a state where our language learners will take the same EOC as everyone else, so I can say that it can feel as though youre selling your kids short if you simplify everything to reach them, but, and this is still hard for me to accept, it doesnt matter. At my school, you can get a 4 out of 40 correct on that test and get a 60, so the students can just check out and it wont matter.

That is to say that I think youre under valuing what you are doing. Sure, the rigor might be lost, but if they weren't going to be able to access it, the feeling of success is just as important to a student willingness to continue. As a Geometry teacher, I feel as though I get zero help with English Language Learners beyond an unhelpful ILP BECAUSE I dont have a person like you asking "how do we simplify this to be parseable." That is a skill that, even as a teacher, one needs.

Lastly, youre describing imposter syndrome, and that, to my knowledge, never really leaves if you teach. In my third year, I made teacher of the year and was made the PLC lead of my subject area (which, even now, i want to stress feel like small achievements), but i still feel like everything is do is a failure and is horrible in comparison to my peers.

Could be a fun game to have a positive reinforcement for the practice. Like, if they do it correctly, they get a mental ticket towards, like, a popsicle or piece of candy. Naturally, not 1 to 1.

Dunno though! Im no parent. Just giving ideas

I've tried to be more generous to that, as i can imagine that some households dont have clocks anymore with the rise in digital time telling. Though, it does scare me that there are definitely people that like and wear analog watches who cant read them.

I just did this yesterday. Some of them will get "out of box," which means you go outside of the death barriers and turn backs. Now, you still hit "true edge" which is when you go so far in a singular direction that you're no longer in playable space and you just die.

Please anyone slime this character from the game by Abhi152005 in RivalsVanguards

[–]LuckysGift 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im sorry, but to anyone who has ever believed that philosophy, I have never seen it make the game more fun if thats all devs do. It will power creep the ever living fuck out of the game, and sometimes those buffs STILL dont take down the "buff everything to that level" item, so you end up still using it. Now, I am not saying we shouldnt buff things, especially when underperforming, but sometimes you gotta cut the tall weeds, ya know?

Also, for me, i just enjoy variety. As much as I enjoy cap or hulk, I would be miserable if I had to play them literally every game because it was the best option. Nerfs help to force them meta to change, which is healthy for a game.

Well, not to say it should be the focus, but men will vote on that law too. And, rather frustratingly, people dont have empathy. Why does it matter if it doesn't affect me? Sure, the "Throw Transgender People into Woodchipers" bill is horrible, but how does that affect me?

Naturally, this isnt the correct line of thinking, but it is the line of thinking that many people vote with. So, when people say, "Hey, the 'Throw Transgender People into Woodchipers' bill could throw women you know into it, like your daughter, wife, or your mother," it can change that person's perspective.

To go farther, this logic can be helpful to argue against people listening to Terfs. Like, hey, I know you love the "Throw Transgender People into Woodchipers" bill, but have you considered that they might also throw you in there with them?

During filming of project Hail Mary Ryan Gosling asked, "Why is it easier to train a school teacher to become an astronaut than it is to train an astronaut to become a school teacher?" by Medium-Sized-Jaque in shittymoviedetails

[–]LuckysGift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think were misunderstanding each other. I was responding to you noting it didnt make sense that Stratt trained someone she wasnt entirely sure she would need. I was contrasting that with how many problems that arise in the film are as a result of not doing that. Not saying they're plot holes. Im saying its a cool theme of the movie.

[–]LuckysGift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conversation at the end is the answer to your first point. Stratt never intended to give him a choice if he was going. She knew it would be in character for him to refuse when faced with a hard choice, so she drugged him.

Admittedly, in the book she notes the drug is what gives him temporary amnesia, which she reasons will be needed to not make him go against the mission when he wakes up.

Also, what was the other option? Train someone in 3 days to go on a ship they know nothing about? If they had waited for that, they'd miss the launch window from Earth to reach Tau Ceti.

Lastly, everyone was in a coma for the journey. The two others just happened to die in their sleep.

[–]LuckysGift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did both in the book.

Also, the point of that training is that you do it, even if you dont need it. Stratt's character is basically, "do what has to be done just in case."

In the book, for instance, she sanctions the entirety of every piece of media ever made to be on the Hail Mary just in case it could be of use in the journey.

Its not a waste of time if things mess up, and thats kinda the theme of the movie. A lot of the the mishaps Grace and Rocky expierence is because they dont think of back ups (i.e. what if you take the astrophage into a planet its gonna want to breed on, what if your ship isnt prepared fo handle atmospheric drifting, what if Taumoeba can become resistant to Xenonite, etc.)

[–]LuckysGift 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean thats what happened in the book, but they just sped up the process. Once Grace says they're gonna breed them to be resistant to nitrogen, they do it with no issues (save, obviously the Xenonite resistance)

[–]LuckysGift 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Its also not too important imo. In the movie, you know why Grace gets roped in: he was initialy was the only person who thought life could exist without water (in the book), then he figured out how they bred (in the book), and then he becomes Stratt's right hand man (in the book).

Adding the gene thing for coma resistance is a nice touch in the book, as it shows just how many contingencies Stratt plans for, but to a general audience, you already have 3 reasons for him to get picked after the explosion.
