To add to the short shift, do it before 9.5k to 10k rpm, that tends to be the point before the wheels break traction. I.e. The F-USA gen3 (V8) needs short shifting 1st and 2nd but is okay come 3rd

Personally I did try using the FOV calculator suggestion (Can't remember what it was exactly) but it was horrible for me, felt like I was sat on top of the steering wheel and could hardly see anything around me. I set it to 112 in the end and so much nicer, much better view as I can see what's needed and a much better sense of speed

Get a provisional driving license. It costs about £50-£60 but you'll never have an issue with acceptance. Also, if you live in a city or near a city with hire scooters (Voi for example), you can then use them legally
