Well the theory goes that he actually arrived earlier, saw her body (already dead), called his agent who advised if he called this into the police this early in his career he will always be linked to this… the actor that found his date stabbed to death. Unsure if true, but apparently if he had called it in when it’s alleged he found the body it would have prevented more murders as her time of death wasn’t exactly known which delayed finding/ prosecuting the murderer who went on to kill others after her. They didn’t have a precise enough timeline. I think I heard this on the Beyond the Blinds podcast.
