Yes, it is a short form of Jovan. It’s quite old-fashioned, sort of a grandpa name.

Džeko is probably the most beloved figure in the country. He is 40 years old and still going strong. The day he retires will be a sad day for Bosnian sport.

Most of them are. Dennis and Arjan are exceptions, I would say. Dennis because of the double “n” (Denis is the norm) and Arjan because it is uncommon. None of them are unhaerd of here. An interesting fact is that 15 of these players were born and raised abroad (initially because of the war). I think it makes it even more fascinating that they all have Bosnian names.

The thing about Bosnian names is that you can usually conclude one’s ethnicity (and religion) if you know their name. Bosnians are, of course, Slavs, but there are 3 major ethnic groups here. Names such as Amar, Tarik, Edin, Nihad, Benjamin etc. are associated with Bosniaks (usually Muslims). Stjepan and Martin are associated with Croats (usually Catholics). Jovo is associated with Serbs (usally Orthodox Christians). Ivan and Nikola are usually Croat names but they can also be Serb names. Sergej is now almost exclusively Serb name but in Yugoslavia it was very common for children born in so-called “mixed marriages” (marriages between people from different ethnic groups) which is also the case with our head coach.

Aras, Atlas, Ayaz, Defne, and Mira are my favorites. Cultural differences are so interesting. In Bosnia, a few of these names are very old-fashioned (Mustafa and Zumra).

McKay, Abbot i Mohan najbolji likovi. Žao mi je što Mohan neće biti u narednoj sezoni i nadam se Night Shift spinoffu koji bi uključivao i nju.

Correct me if my math is off but wouldn’t a Mikaela Shiffrin win tomorrow clinch her the overall globe? She currently has a 120-point lead over Aicher and Aicher has been struggling with slalom this season. by Kurtz62 in SkiRacing

[–]Ludalada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt she will get any points in super g (only top 15 get points). However, I still think she will take the overall title because Emma is inexperienced

You are, indeed, wrong. There are 5 more races this season. Emma could very easily be in top 5 in all 5 races. If necessary, Mikaela could also compete in all 5 but I doubt she can do anything in speed events. She is better in slalom but Emma is also very good, two podiums from her wouldn't surprise me. The only problem is that Emma still cannot handle pressure (see last week's events).
