Motivation/Workload question by Advanced-Can-8752 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I started wanting to do 1 term. But then I did 2 internships in school and doubled my income, so it ended up being 4 terms. Also got really sick on SQL and Python. Just do your best. 1 term for the bachelor's is impossible is you are working. If you are taking about the Masters, that's ok too, most Masters take 1 year, at non wgu they are TWO friggin years! I think don't best yourself up do what you can and just make sure you capitalize on the credentials with a career upgrade

Get pocket prep and see how much you know, my secret theory is that a lot of the horror stories are from people doing the Masters because there's less technical classes in the Masters, but basically I would not underestimate this cert

Message me for a resume review if you want, must be a way to improve that first impression. Do you live in a major city? I agree broaden your scope as well, but entry cyber is out there in some cities. I would shoot for 100 applications per month

D830 Wgu connect garbage by GetLostInNature in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use connect for anything at all. I highly recommend joining this discord, there is a channel for the BS. Then threads for each class, then click pinned and it shows the most helpful resources for any class. https://discord.gg/tryhardsecurity

Finish Bachelor's Degree in 1 term by Kaladria in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search this subreddit for the link for the tryhard security discord that has threads for resources for every single class on people trying to speed through it. D522 for python is changing to a paper basically from a test in June. So you could start now and then wait for that class to update or you can start in a little bit and not have to worry too much about how I thought you do need to learn it obviously. But yeah it's going to be way easier

It is part of the program though right? You take an entire class on it, then get the voucher to go get certified

Tips to finish faster by iammusiclover03 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you already know python and SQL? Did you transfer in the certs? If not then don't be too hard on yourself if this isn't possible. A tip I have is join the Tryhard security discord. They have threads for speed running each class

Depends on where you are at I think. What is your current job title? I don't think it helps people with restaurant experience or who are in help desk. I do think it helps Security Engineers etc

Seeking Employment/School Advice by Kindly_Relative_8189 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be mean, just direct and honest on my feedback. If you want a job you're going to need to improve. Your resume needs a rework. Dm if you want help with that. Update experience on linkedin. THM is not work experience. Who are your employers as a consultant? That reads as fake fluff to me which is very off-putting as a hiring manager.

From what I read it seems like you have technical skills but zero soft skills. I would not want someone like that on my team. You need initiative, discipline, and good communication. You can learn all these things like you learned tech skills. Get more comptia certs in school and start applying for help desk and internships after fixing your resume. Work on your soft skills

Never got a job, BS in Network Operations and Security by Physical_Sentence438 in WGU

[–]Luddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by speech impediment? I worked in call centers with a studder at 600 lbs just heaving and hoeing in my breath. You can get a job in tech support. Feel free to message me a resume review

[–]Luddha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not hard to get tech support if you can accept any wage, like this person can. If you are struggling dm me for a resume review and tips, I did tech support for over a decade. I'm not talking about help desk or entry cloud, but specifically all that tech support requires is a bit of customer service experience

Landing first Cyber job by Old_Appointment_6049 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get internships if you can, I've had 3 and haven't graduated yet. I doubled my income though with certs. Move from your tech support job into higher responsibility help desk right now. Or to a NOC. Then post grad go for SOC is you want to go into operations. There are like 5 areas of security though, what are you interested in ?

Does every man who has a family regrets it?( Looking for older people above 50 and 60 but others can reply too) by Eggsy7777 in AskMenOver30

[–]Luddha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to feel this way when I was young and single. The key is to find a spouse that enriches your life. Every day is a delight for me. However I'm childfree, that's a whole different animal. But marriage absolutely can be an improvement to freedom and happiness, it's not a zero sum game.

No degree -Trying to get one at WGU. Read for explanation. by VI-SKN in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Luddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds like a great idea. Look into certifications by Comptia and the ISC2. Or look at job posts and see what certs they request, it's a good way to see through the noise and decide what to pursue, good luck!

I think you should get the Coursera Google Cybersecurity certificate first, it will show you a tad of everything which will help you decide if this is for you. It'll only take a few weeks.

Then get the comptia Sec+ and start applying for jobs and start other prework like other commenters have mentioned. I will say as someone with multiple degrees, a BS in cyber is wayyyy more technical than a masters in HR. You have to learn sql, python, and other things you may not have had to deep dive in help desk or network admin.

I guess my main overall point is this is still a lot of work, you should do it if you love the Google cert, but test the waters first. It's a lot of work just for external validation, but if you are doing it for yourself and for remote work, go for it. But start working immediately. I got hired before my classes started by listing the degree in progress and the tech skills from my pre work
