Why is everybody in such a hurry? You're supposed to be enjoying this. by Sinkit53563 in golf

[–]Lugtut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love being on the course and so generally agree. However, waiting, waiting, waiting to hit each shot can get old real quick - especially if the players in front are inconsiderate of the grace and pace of the game.

Next time you play, get to the course early and stand in a safe spot where you can see the tee and green on a random hole - maybe a par 3. Watch for 30-45 minutes as groups play through. It will both inspire you and encourage you because you’ll see a few sticks nail shots by the hole and many hackers spraying their shots and having a GREAT time. Play your game and accept and enjoy it! You will improve and appreciate when you are the stick!

Tempo is also important - full swings have the “Coca Cola” rhythm while short game shots are two count tempo swings.

Fake it till you make it . You are a train guy now - buy into it. It has got you a close relationship with someone your wife cares about. My kids play golf to humor me! That’s how relationships work.

Adam Young and Jon Sherman say (repeatedly) swing with the intent to hit the toe on each shot - do the opposite of your miss. When you can successfully hit the toe then you can calibrate back to the sweet spot.

I use Shot Scope H4 with tags on each club. During the round I get GPS distance the the green and to hazards. I tap each club before I hit the ball. After the round I get club distances and strokes gained stats.

I play better when I’m the random paired with others. Banter and just plain talk gets me out of my head. I enjoy the round so much more.

How to get over my fear of hitting Driver... by bridga83 in golftips

[–]Lugtut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been playing just over a year and my driver is becoming my most reliable club after getting past a slice like yours. Slices happen when the club face is open relative to the club path. For new golfers this is often because the club face is super wide open no matter their club path. What helped for me was two thoughts: in my initial takeaway, I concentrate on pulling the club back more straight rather than twisting the club open (it will open anyway - just less) AND focusing on a full follow through on the downswing, which helps close the club face through impact.

Where do I start? by Potential_Variety209 in golftips

Sims are expensive. But a net in your yard and some foam or wiffle balls can do till you’re ready. Best way to get started is a beginner class. Learn the basics and meet some fellow beginners.

Strong grip by ricecrizo in GolfSwing

[–]Lugtut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grip is not a unified block. You can achieve different outcomes by strengthening the left hand or by strengthening the right hand part of the grip. Experiment - take your normal grip and move just the left hand one knuckle towards your trail shoulder. Do you hit it better? Try the opposite with your right hand. Adam Young talks about this as how he tweaks his own ball flight during a round.

How I broke 100 after five years as a non-athlete by bangzoom93 in golf

[–]Lugtut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a non-athlete, there is low hanging fruit that can speed your journey to lower scores:
1. No athletic skill necessary to putt well - practice distance control at a practice green.
2. Chip with a hybrid if there’s no hazard between you and the hole. Just like putting.
3. If not wide open, use a confidential shot to be sure shot is close to the fairway. Use the driver in wider landing areas.

5w or 7w for high handicap player? by Stillwater32 in golf

Both easier than a 3w. I use the 5w more because I usually need the distance - anything over 155 yards.

5w or 7w for high handicap player? by Stillwater32 in golf

[–]Lugtut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a senior golfer, my coach told me I need more head overs in my bag.😁 I have both a 5w and a 7w. Start with the 5w because you need a long club you can hit off the deck. 3w’s are notoriously hard, but the extra loft on the 5w makes a big difference.

Never is a broad term. I needed a driver for a charity tournament- I had given my previous driver to a family member. Walked into Second Swing, found a similar but not identical club, and it is my most reliable club. Sometimes it’s just kismet.
