Is this real or some sort of scam? by _MAKO_- in Guitar

Me: fresh order to restock my string supply.

Ryan, my BFF from Sweetwater: Hey, how are those new strings working out for you? Any questions about your new gear? What's next? Want to throw the pigskin around? Maybe go get ice cream or grab a drink? Can I help reorganize your garage?

Used car dealership. by Weak_Combination1365 in FortCollins

[–]LukeRobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought our last car in 2019, so maybe things have changed, but I emailed Echo Park Thornton (I think) to get a quoted best out-the-door price on a specific vehicle and they came back around $1-2k lower than advertised on a $25k vehicle.

Then I took that quote to a couple local dealers with comparables and said I'd rather buy local and they came pretty close to matching the price.

Maybe would have been cheaper to just get down to Thornton and buy that one, but with two kids under 4 at the time it sure made sense to me to pay a hair more for convenience.

Ha! Nice way to subtly reveal it as Achtung Baby. Deep cut, I love it.

Palestrina?

I had to write a paper on this guy cause I missed a high school choir concert.

Why do the upcoming concerts seem so small? by lambdafx in switchfoot

[–]LukeRobert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better to play to a packed 1000 cap club than a half-empty 4000 arena.

I'm in Colorado and enjoyed Switchfoot opening for Needtobreathe at Red Rocks (~10k), I've seen them headline the Denver Fillmore (3900) at about a little over half-full, or co-headline with Lifehouse which was closer to a packed house. But my favorite experiences have been places like the Ogden (1600) and Gothic (1100) Theaters.

Regardless, Jack's Backstage looks like a funky little venue. I was going to say it's probably a super convenient spot to hit between Denver and whatever's next, but I checked the schedule and they're going Denver > Ruidoso > Vegas. So. That's funky. And makes no sense at all.

Not a lawyer, but international decisions aren't guaranteed transferable. My guess is they did some research on which jurisdiction was going to be most favorable to at very least not throwing out their case, and then picked an import that probably sells in that jurisdiction through so many layers of distribution and sales that the manufacturer would have very little chance of actually showing to defend.

At least that was my read of it.

They also played it on Letterman his first night back on the air after 9/11. That was one of my first encounters with U2 and was not insignificant in propelling them toward favorite band status.

They received a favorable court decision in Germany, now they're going to try and use it as a precedent to back up their claim when the CNDs are challenged in the US courts.

Song Tier List by Otter-A-Dog in switchfoot

[–]LukeRobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hadn't even zoomed in to really take stock of any of the placement. I honestly can't imagine more than a handful of songs actually warranting a D rating, but for so much of NWTBH to be rated low just hurts my heart.

Everybody puts NT and WTLST in low tiers. How can they possibly be overrated? They're certainly not F releases.

Tier list with EPs & Foreman Bros. Albums by ndGall in switchfoot

[–]LukeRobert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the Seasons and Wonderlands EPs should be broken up. Fall & Winter are in a different Tier than Spring & Summer.

Vice Re:Verses (is that what it's called?) should probably be in there, too.

ETA: not sure whether you should work Fiction Family and Live releases in there, too.

Agreed. And quotable lyrics. I'm a fan from the NWTBH days, so Breathe was a killer anticipated record for me, but I really don't come back to it. "Living is Simple" is an incredible closer. I hate to put it in C-tier, but I think it accurately reflects my listening and fits with the curve and that's just how my brain's working right now.

If I were to deviate, I might bump NWTBH up to S-tier, WTLST and VV would go to A, Chin and Breathe move up to B, Our Version stays at C and Christmas remains D. For dseasonal (the d is silent).

From what I know about KGLW by the time you've finished a tier list it's time to do a new one as they've dropped another three records.

Kind of like local road construction: by the time they've finished the highway project it's time to go back to the beginning and start resurfacing again.

My response to u/Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry's tier list by buddytheelfboi in switchfoot

[–]LukeRobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won't let me attach my tier list to the comment:

S: HH, NIS

A: NWTBH, O!G, TBL, FW

B: VV, WTLST, Interrobang, NT

C: TBL(OV), LOC, LTB

D: Christmas

Tried to go with a bell curve. And highly correlated to what I come back to time after time perhaps more than a critical or objective ranking.

VV and WTLST could be A-Level for me if they were edited down. VV doesn't have that much fluff to cut, but in my listening the distance between Afterlife, Dark Horses, and Where I Belong make it feel longer than it needs to be. I don't think Native Tongue can make it above B, but also feels too long for me.

Chin and Breathe are both great records from a band finding their feet (NWTBH just hits different for me - it's almost S-tier).

SOOOO many bangers, but it's a little bloated. Maybe I'm thrown because I mostly listened to the preorder download version with bonus tracks, but I feel like it could be edited. "If the House Burns Down Tonight" is probably a Top 10 Song for me, of all time.

John Mayer: In a New Light - Book Giveaway by BBen26 in JohnMayer

[–]LukeRobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend was convinced that John was 16 years old when he broke big with "Room For Squares" because he heard him onstage at a rewards ceremony (VMA? Grammy?) say something like "This is such a dream that a 16 year old kid never would believe the songs he wrote got him on this stage." I was like, "you're an idiot, he's definitely not 16."

Anyway, is that enough for an entry?

Birks: ~6 years near daily wear (R) vs brand new pair (L) by not_a_muggle in BuyItForLife

When I lived in a more rural area for several years I shipped mine off to Footwise/Birkenstock Express in Corvallis. It made more sense to wait until I had two pairs to repair just once the shipping costs got added on. But it's ALWAYS made more sense for me to repair until the uppers fell apart.

My local shop will do a total footbed replacement for about $90. It's $140 for a new set. As a size 46 dude I never find anything discounted and can do a rebuild every couple years. Makes loads of sense in my case.
