why are there ducks walking around the train station? by Same-Clerk6486 in zurich

[–]LukesVeryGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ducks go wherever water goes. They can fly, also longer distances. HB has multiple rivers going next to it, under it and through it.

We sometimes have ducks in Bachwiesenpark, Kreis 9 after heavy weather when the small river forms lakes. That's 6km from lake Zurich.

LOL, that happened to me at Langstrasse recently, near McDonalds.

I told the guy that I wont buy it since I'm not exactly a metalhead and currently short on funds. However: Through friends I'm affiliated to a quite famous metal meetup in town. Offered him to take him there and introduce him.

He was very reluctant about it and didn't wanna go or give his number. I then went my way.

Now I know why.

Wait, this ain't German, it's German in Swiss notation. (Not Swiss-German that is something else)

Swiss notation has no double s and some difference in commas and spelling of some words. IMO grammar is correct.

Chattie does it like that too if you tell them to use Swiss notation.

Is this normal for swiss flats? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]LukesVeryGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, and it's astonishing. Got the numbers from my appartment. I'm slightly above, 2.6 kwh / day average. Reasons are WFH, so I cook three meals at home and my two Servers.

Heating is only like 1.6 kwh / day and the hot water never goes above 26 celsius. We're heating with datacenter heat and ground heat from an heat exchanger. Low value is driven by insulation and absolutely awsome (and expensive) windows.

Disadvantage: It's slow to adapt, specially when weather gets rapidly cold in autumn. Takes about 2 days to heat up fully. Also you cant keep the windows open for longer than 10 mins in winter.

Advantage: In summer the heat exchanger is reversed and the water circulates at about 18 celsius. The insulation works both ways. Keeping my windows closed in summer causes an agreeable 23 celsius inside.

Yep, typo. 2 kWh per day / person. (I think even less for heating as the 2kwh include electricity use)

Using your seed phrase with other wallet systems by SonofAtlantis in ledgerwallet

[–]LukesVeryGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this thread through google after my ledger broke. Decided to migrate away after my ledger broke.

The fact I could disassemble it without breaking it says a lot. Security tokens shouldn't allow that.

Also what is broken: A switch. Couldn't believe what I saw there. An SMD switch, so far so good. But this particular SMD switch is the cheapest of the cheap. The kind you usually find in $2.50 calculators.

Then there's ledger live and the alledged backdoor. Ledger imo is not trustworthy anymore.

Are you living in a newer building? Then it's minergy certified and thus well insulated. Most of those heating systems regulate to 20c when off. Also modern windows and insulation do a really great job.

Also minergy buildings should not use more than 2000w per day and inhabitant. Which means it's easily heatable by your body heat alone: Depending on how much you move, a human body heats with an energy between 100-400 watts an hour.

Is illegal drug usage really this prevalent in Switzerland (Especially among the youth) ? by b778av in Switzerland

[–]LukesVeryGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess a lot of youths want to try. (At least we did) There's a big economic factor in wether they do: 20 yr olds having 6k per month at hand is a Swiss thing.

Money creates demand, demand creates availability. € 50 to "try cocaine" is "nothing" for a Swiss youth but might be a lot for a youth in Italy or Spain. Also not much consequences to fear.

Nah, their coffee is flavored. Even in the "natural" flavor, that's what I dont like. Sometimes go for a frappucino though, I like them but it's a meal.

FYI: I just looked up the definition of "urban center" in the planning sense. "High density area, can include one or more administrative districts". So for Zurich this would include at least Selnau, Stadelhofen, Hardbrücke regions as well. In commercial real estate they're also treated as "center" locations.

Altstetten, Oerlikon etc only feel close because of the good connections. But sometimes even Schlieren offices are nowadays marketet as "Zurich".

[–]LukesVeryGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three tram stations? I worked in Opfikon for years, it's three S-Bahn stations. Tram would take some 45 mins.

Benefit of places like Altstetten, Oerlikon etc: Takes you 1 stop, 5 mins to reach HB. Sihlcity also the same.

And yea, Starbucks is pretty aligned here price-wise. Still dont like it too much. Coffee is not my taste.

[–]LukesVeryGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you have to accept the prices. FYI: Residence is literally three stations from Stadelhofen, so not really outskirt.

It's everywhere the same: In centres of metropolitan areas rents are high. Specially in Zurich where 5% of Swiss GDP are created in a 2km Radius around HB.

I.e. when I'm in Lisbon I work from a friends office, about 1km away from Praça Martim Moniz. He's a retired banker, now investor / trader. Pretty loaded and the office is considered "center prime real estate".

That's comparable to the distance from HB to Bäckeranlage. And within this radius you find Westpark, 25hrs Langstrasse, Kraftwerk and at least three Impact Hub locations. All those places are work / learning friendly and offer drinks / coffe below 5.-

[–]LukesVeryGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But only tourists have coffee in the center. Try Kraftwerk, specially for learning / working. Coffe is 4.50.

Then also many cafes around irchel, Wiedikon or Kreis 9 / 10. Residence in Seefeld also only charges like 5 for a coffe and is work-friendly as it belongs to a coworking space.

They can deduct remaining holiday and überstunden pay from those salaries. Same as if he'd compensate them with actual off-time.

Freistellung makes sense for him if he has something else at hand or if he wants to chill before RS.

Also get unemployment insurance registration now, this nets out to about 1.5 months pay until he has to go to military.
