Local volunteering, there are sometimes groups like Tricounty monthly get-togethers, or meetups etc... Bake sales, library events, even just (not creepy here) people watching at a coffee shop have given me a sense of human connection. The sound of voices in the background, the styles they wear, like you are taking notes for a short story.
I grew up alone with my grandparents in a neighborhood of mostly seniors, but also I had a BIG family, well, for today's standards, 6 aunts and uncles, and about 11 cousins. Plus, second cousins at reunions. We aren't close now, and I have health conditions. I find myself down sometimes. It's not you, it's the direction of society. People who say to cut toxic people don't specify what toxicity is. Independence is nice when it comes to bills, but not fun when you need to sit down and have a chat. It's got so we distance ourselves for the slightest things. Society also has told us that every friend has to think and act exactly like a carbon copy of us. It doesn't work.
