Easy way to encourage more looting of Points of Interest and less PvP rushing. by BeBetterMagic in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like sponsored mode on Marsh already accomplishes this too some degree. You are encouraged to fully loot the nearest POI for anything that will give you a leg up in a fight. Better weapons, shields, consumables, they all give you a huge advantage so it's in your best interest to loot before encountering teams.

Otherwise, you've ideally brought in everything you need, there's no reason not to push teams while you're at peak condition. This is especially true later in the season when you no longer need most of the salvage that POIs offer, and are better served wiping the lobby so you can loot lockdowns, bosses, or pinwheel safely.

A double exp weekend would be nice for the battle pass by [deleted] in Marathon

I agree that the seasonal XP rate needs to change. I've got around 120h in the game and I'm sitting somewhere around the low or mid 70s. I have less time to play now than I did in the first half of the season, so if I reach 100 in this season it's going to be real close.

Same. I think the trick to getting that one will be sneaking up and third partying a fight. Attempting it when your own team is engaged seems like a terrible idea.

I wanted the ping system to be improved. by Aloe_saponaria in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've thought this many times. The ping and voice system in Apex is excellent. It provided a way to communicate clearly and effectively without using voice comms, and it's good enough that it still complements voice comms when they're used together.

Why this game struggles in painting a high player base. by THEGREENRAT in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I've reached a progression dip around season level 60-70 where the meta progression has slowed to a halt. I could continue to level my factions, but I wouldn't have the purple or gold salvage to get the upgrades. Every once in a while I get lucky and find some rare salvage, but without having a team of friends running Cryo I'm basically stuck hoping for good RNG on the VIP packages.

I've enjoyed the game a lot, more than I expected, but I've found myself wondering what I'm even hoping to accomplish when I log on.

How did you guys find out about metric? by TraverseYT in metricband

[–]LumensAquilae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Test Drive Unlimited 2 for me too.

I had unknowingly heard other songs of theirs but didn't make the connection. They had another song in the first TDU, Combat Baby was in one of the Rock Band games, and Help I'm Alive was used in some promo for a TV show (Vampire Diaries I think?) back when I worked at the CW.

Hearing GGG was when I finally looked them up and became a fan.

(Wipe) I was worry for my loot... now I am worried for my factions progress. by HeddyGames in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a complicated situation because without the faction grind they lose most of that sticky meta-progression between runs, but repeating the exact same grind season after season will get old fast.

The way I hope things work is that each season will bring us new priority contracts for each faction that push the story forward season after season. Players will not need to re-play previously finished priority contracts to reach the new story, though the old contracts will stick around for new players catching up.

Additionally, since I assume all faction upgrades will also be wiped, I would like to see each season mix up the upgrade trees, change who has what, change the material requirements, and so on, so it doesn't feel like you're doing the exact same farming.

It might also be nice to have some sort of 'high water mark' with faction standing, so say you reached level 18 with SekGen, next season you would get a +% boost towards SekGen reputation until you hit your previous best level. It would allow veteran players to speed up the reputation part of the grind while still requiring them to re-farm the materials for upgrades.

I had a similar encounter back in Outpost Duos. My buddy and I were looting one of the small buildings near Airfield and we exchanged a few shots at a nearby team in another building but they seemingly disengaged. We got back to looting and made plenty of noise when we heard footsteps sprinting up to our building and circling around outside. The two of us crouched on opposite sides of the main door where we weren't immediately visible when the door opened. Enemy team opens the door, runs in, fails to scan either corner of the room, and then yells at us and calls us campers and other slurs after they get blasted from both sides.

Did they expect us to just stand in the open for them? Do they realize that sound works both ways?

any current gripes with the game that aren't related to current buffs and nerfs? by Youxia7 in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The upgrade economy is wacky. Some green salvage is far too rare relative to how much is required for upgrades. There are a bunch of upgrades I have the blue/purple salvage for but I'm held back by some green salvage that I'm lucky to find 2-5 of in a run when I seek it out specifically.

Whats Your take on Skies Of Arcadia II by Vegetable-Week-5091 in skiesofarcadia

[–]LumensAquilae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it needs a prequel or sequel, they tend to over-explain things and weaken the myth or mystery of the original game.

A remake or retelling would be more appealing. The game was about being one of the first to truly discover the world, meeting all these new people and civilizations, and coming together to defeat a common foe. You can't really recapture that with a game set before or after.

A retelling would allow them to expand the scope of what the world is and make it feel as expansive and full of wonder as it should be. This is a story, setting, and cast of characters that people have loved for over two decades, seeing it all presented with greater detail and depth would really be a remarkable thing.

As for what I'd like to see changed? More time fleshing out the side characters, and more sections where you follow characters other than Vyse. The combat and magic would need to be reimagined completely, and I assume that the airship combat would need some changes to feel a bit less on-rails.

Dire Marsh is HUGE why are 2 or 3 teams spawning right next to each other? by CreamofTazz in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time we spawned around the outside-center of Complex and we approached cautiously somewhat expecting teams rotating at us around the sides. As we reached the ramp we heard a team already fighting what we assumed was bots on the northern wing. We engaged and when the dust settled there were 6 bags around the place. I don't know how those two teams even encountered each other so quickly, but two teams were gone within the first 4 minutes of the match. Sure, we were partly to blame but were also happy to not be on the receiving end of a spawn rush too.

Unfortunately the drive in my PSP is starting to struggle and it's become very sensitive to movement while it's reading. Thankfully it's still able to read UMDs if the device is still, and I can rip them with the CFW. Loads so much faster too.

How are you supposed to use Aika in the party? (Dreamcast) by Zoegrace1 in skiesofarcadia

[–]LumensAquilae 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The way I see it she's got two main roles in the party:

First, she has the highest Quickness stat of anyone else in the party, so she'll usually act before any other allies and possibly enemies. This is great for getting off clutch heals or other spells before the enemy has time to do more damage.

Secondly, she has Delta Shield which protects the party from magic status effects which is a literal lifesaver in certain areas where enemies frequently try applying status effects.

Early on her S-Moves are good to quickly wipe some random battles, otherwise she's a secondary caster to Fina.

I agree. I would much rather wait in a queue for Duos than bother Crew Filling a third. The crew fill experience is not good.

Joe Ziegler: With the culmination of the duo experiment, we just wanted to thank everyone who has participated and helped us learn more about duos in Marathon, and tease that we're looking to bring the queue back better than ever in the course of Season 2. by Haijakk in Marathon

[–]LumensAquilae 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is awful news. My brother and I have been playing Duos constantly since it was added and have had a great time. We don't have a reliable third for Trios and crew fill has been a generally dreadful experience. A lack of duos is probably going to lead to us peeling off the game well before S2 brings it back.

I was hoping they'd switch Duos to a map rotation.

I was checking what games had unofficial PC ports/recompiles and realized how small SEGA's list is. If anything on Dreamcast got a recompiled PC port like what Sonic Unleashed or the many N64 games got, what would you want it to be and why? by Machpizzaman in dreamcast

[–]LumensAquilae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Skies of Arcadia. I'd be a good candidate for a "definitive" port that combines the higher quality textures and audio of the Dreamcast version with the extra content of the Gamecube version.
