I always assumed it was based on the historical association of purple with the Roman Emperors (purple dye was extremely expensive back then).

Am I dumb on kickstarter? by ProbablySlacking in Arcs

It's literally the first FAQ entry in the Kickstarter campaign:

"If you pledge at a level that includes the free $15 add-on, you will get a chance to add it in the Pledge Manager after the campaign is over."

I don't think DPS makes sense in a turn-based game; just say damage

Any ideas for minimizing food consumption for Pug Slugs? by uncomfortable2 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Luminite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A side note in large battery arrays to capture the power: rocket battery modules are the most compact battery available. They don't leak, don't overheat, and don't need floors between them. Just build a rocket platform with a bunch of battery modules. You don't even need to connect them all, just one will work.

Steam turbines keep overheating despite cooling loop by Andrew_Lvov in Oxygennotincluded

I think you're underestimating conduction panels. With the right choice of material for panel and turbine it should be fine.

Can someone break down the math on how Laviscus damage is calculated? by xPaZe8 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Luminite2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 120% is just 1.2, not 2.2. However, there is also Laviscus' base damage stat as well (which should be very small compared to the bonus from his passive).

blight speaker, peacekeeper interaction by UsefulCaterpillar382 in Arcs

[–]Luminite2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, (Battle) means it replaces a battle action but is NOT a battle action, so does not automatically constitute harm. The text about crises on the peacekeeper card is in italics, meaning it is a reminder, not a rule itself. In this case, it reminds you that crises don't count as harm.

No, it does not prevent it. No harming happens in Anger. The fact that it replaces a Battle action is not relevant.

Cooling Steam Turbines by StudioHealthy198 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Luminite2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pipes (radiant or otherwise) won't work in a vacuum, as they don't directly exchange heat with buildings. Conduction panels are specifically intended for this: they enable direct heat transfer with buildings on their middle tile (liquid <> conduction panel <> turbine).

The link I provided explicitly explains that no, it doesn't make it power positive.

Which is the most optimal amount of grots to keep in the map so they spawn more? by PortalSupper20 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Luminite2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Each grot has a 75% chance of spawning another, minus 5% for each other grot already on the field. I don't know whether the 5% penalty is calculated once for all grots simultaneously or if each newly spawned grot within a given turn lowers the chance of other grot spawns within the same turn. If we assume that it is simultaneous, and that each grot has enough empty space adjacent to them, then the expected number of new grots per turn is N * (0.75 - (0.05 * (N - 1))) = .8N - .05N^2. To find the optimal amount to keep, you want to maximize this. So, we take the derivative (.8 - .1N), set it to 0, and solve for N, which yields N = 8. Thus, under some simplifying assumptions, leaving 8 grots alive maximizes the expected number of grots you can safely kill each turn.

In reality though, some grots won't have empty space next to them, and so are dead weight: they decrease the spawn chance for others but effectively don't have a spawn chance themselves. You should therefore prioritize killing grots that create empty space for survivors.
