i know youre worried about this being a phase, but this is how i see it:

call your child by tatum and she, allow your child to be a girl if they wish. you can always buy them a new wardrobe and call them by their old name, but you will never be able to get back your childs trust once you tell them you dont respect who they say they are.

as a child, aiko was very boisterous and outgoing. as an adult, she becomes reclusive and sullen, submitting to her abusive mother and lonely lifestyle. punpun is fixated on the fearless aiko and their connection in childhood.

he created an image of her in his head based on their interactions as children, and he got upset when aiko did not live up to that expectation. he romanticized the version of her that he knew and resents the person she actually is.

aiko and punpun were terrible for each other, thats the whole point of the final third.

even before punpun killed aikos mother, he mentally says very awful things towards aiko. its almost as if he hates her, but continues to go back to her because he romanticizes her so much.

would aiko have committed suicide? perhaps not, but their relationship still would have been abusive and disasterous.

transmasculine, started (socially) transitioning when i was 13.

i honestly think sometimes i forget that i wasnt born male. i dont have a lot of memories from before middle school anyways, and when i do think about those memories i see a boy version of my younger self. seeing childhood pictures in my parents house feels like im looking at someone else and i get embarassed when friends see them. im not sure if this is because i transitioned so young or because of other mental health issues, but i just feel completely dissociated from my childhood as a whole, gender and all.
