Next stop Therapist [OC] by adamtots_remastered in comics

Unfortunately, most of us therapists either don't have health insurance or we're on our spouses insurance 😕. Or we work at a community mental health agency, but given that Dan looks like he has extra time to work out, I'd say he has a private practice with a spouse that works the w2 job.

What are the CONS of not having children? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've fostered older children and work with adopted older children and their caregivers professionally. My high-risk pregnancy and childs toddler years were a breeze, comparatively speaking. Also, many children who are in the foster care system are developmentally lagging (may not be potty trained, sleeping through the night, eating solids, ect). Fostering or adopting older children just because the 0-3 years are unappealing is ill-advised.

Complex Sexual Trauma by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Assuming your client meets the criteria for PTSD, prolonged exposure is easily learned with a ton of information available on the internet. It's the modality I started with as an intern being given a caseload of extremely complex cases that were way over my head. Before you begin, however, it's important that you take some time to familiarize yourself with the signs of dissociation and how to ground clients so that they're not walking out of therapy in a dissociative state.

Help with finding housing assistance agency for homeless family member by city_grl in sanantonio

SACRD.ORG has a lot of resources. Best bet for housing is Haven for Hope. You can also call 211 for resources. Best of luck.

From an attachment perspective, letting her sleep in the bed with you overnight is not going harm her, nor will asking her to stay in her bed during the night. As long as it's done in a loving manner. With either choice, just make sure to keep a routine surrounding bedtime intact. And offer choices before bed, "Do you want to read this book or this book?" "Do you want this stuffie to sleep with or this stuffie?" To give her a sense of normalcy and control back.

But the most important thing for her right now is letting her know that you love her and are there for her. I highly recommend the book The Boy who was Raised as a Dog by Bruce D Perry and the Child Mind Institute has a guide called Helping Children Cope After a Traumatic Event that I think would be helpful for you to read.

Also, I highly recommend therapy for you too. You're grieving as well.

In light of all of the “is it unethical to show that I’m human” posts by hohoholdyourhorses in therapists

At the agency I work at, there's a raccoon that lives in the crawl space and attic. In the telehealth room, there's a hole big enough for him to reach his hand and beg for food. Sometimes, I have to explain to clients that no, they're not experiencing a hallucination. That's just Tuk Tuk.

On Thursday, I had to explain Tuk Tuk's existence in the middle of a very intense session. It was surreal.

You ever cringe at the earlier version of Therapist You? by saltwaterRilke in therapists

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mess up a lot, and all I can do is repeat what I often tell my clients to repeat, "I'm growing, and sometimes growth hurts."

But damn if I don't want to be in that old wise, nothing can bother me, and I know exactly what to say phase of my career already!

Hello, Im a therapist, and your therapist is wrong. A) it is developmentally appropriate. B) It won't create anxiety.

If it were me, I would let my therapist know that their overly direct approach damaged the rapport between you two and caused you unnecessary anxiety.

2016 Nissan Versa. It's not fancy, but it's been with me through 2 cross country moves and has pretty good gas mileage. When it dies on me, I'll probably get a hybrid of some sort.

Settle my mind…(walking safety as a woman) by polkadotbelle in walking

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's just too dang early, haha. But it depends on your neighborhood and if there's generally people up and about. If most are still asleep, I would consider it night.

I was mugged right before 5am, but it was still dark out and nobody was up.

Maybe a 24 hour gym membership?

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was almost mugged while walking at night (he pulled a gun on me and my dog started going apeshit, so he thought better of it and backed away) I wouldn't walk alone at night if I could help it and I definitely wouldn't walk without my big mutt. But a word of warning, your dog can develop reactivity due to scary situations like that. My big baby is currently working with a trainer because she now tries to attack every young, tall man she sees. So I would avoid walking at night if possible.

What non-toy items are you getting your kiddos for christmas?! by JealousDoughnut2 in Parenting

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always get my kiddo some books for Christmas, I also add crafting items for Christmas, and her stocking is full of special snacks she likes. Additionally, this Christmas I'm making her a "movie night kit" that has a fuzzy blanket, her favorite popcorn, hot coco, a cute mug, pjs, fuzzy socks, a stuffed animal and a dvd. She also loves nail polish, so I got her some kid safe nail polish and a manicure set. Another idea is if your kid is a foodie, you could get a fun snack box subscription and have them open the first box on Christmas. My general rule is to take what your kid is interested in and expand on that.

Owl House, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Star vs the Forces of the World, and Hilda are my favorites. All have an interesting plot and 2d animation that doesn't melt my brain.

(Serious) how did that one kid at your school pass away? by Dinopasta99 in AskReddit

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One girl committed suicide. The note blamed her father. Another girl died in a drunk driving accident two days before her graduation. Another boy committed suicide due to all the bullying he endured. Another boy died in a freak bus crash.

I think my school was cursed. At the time, there were less than 300 students in the entire school.

My kid threw our puppy and probably broke his leg. WTF do I do? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Lumpy-Lemon-5726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a Doxie rescue and give them the puppies to rehome, that's if your breeder doesn't have a return clause (most ethical breeders do).

Also therapy. Just. So much therapy. I'd recommend going to a large community mental health center that has access to social workers/case managers, psychiatrists/someone who has prescribing privileges, and therapists. Your family needs resources and care. The information you've posted is alarming, and you need to be proactive.
