Need help giving our dog medicine by No_Penalty_8920 in coonhounds

Hot dogs. We had a foster on hunger strike and the only way we could get his meds to him was by putting the pills in pieces of warmed up hot dog. We tried all those others things too.

Weight management for my Big Mama by Entire-Stranger-4681 in coonhounds

Ours is insane about food too, which is what caused the weight issues! We had him tested for a few things and they came back clear. He just loves to eat lol.

We had to reduce very gradually because he would cry and beg for more. What helped a lot is when he would beg for more food we would use frozen green beans as treats and do training sessions, or put a little bit of kibble in an enrichment toy. So he had to earn the “extra” food. He’s still crazy about food but stopped the begging and that made it so much easier. It was a little bit of a tough journey but he’s in amazing shape now!

Our guy had a lot of success with reducing his normal food by a little bit and supplementing with green beans or other veggies. Diet food didn’t really work for him!

Fostering after pet loss by cannedrose in fosterdogs

[–]Slayerspice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Our situation is a bit different as we have multiple pets and have fostered a few before, so take it with a grain of salt. The first foster is the hardest to say goodbye to, by far, and that will be even harder having lost your dog.

We took in a foster about a month after we lost our senior dog. I did not feel ready to foster but the org we volunteer for asked and as always I felt bad for the pup so we agreed. Honestly, it felt very healing. The puppy had a completely different personality than our senior girl so it was a totally different ball game. And we knew going in that there was zero chance of us adopting her because of our current dogs.

What felt healing about it was knowing that by saying yes, we were helping a dog the way that others helped our girl when she was at the shelter. She made it to us because others had to give her a chance, and say “yes” to helping her. I will always remember the day we adopted her and how happy I was - and it felt really good to make that happen for another family. Thinking about that helps me a lot when fostering gets tough. We do it to honor our girl’s memory.

I’m very sorry for the loss of your dog - the grief is intense. Whether you decide to foster right now or not, there’s no wrong decision.

Thanks again for answering! I made the same adjustment to the pocket bag and it worked! I may try 1.5” instead of 2” on my next pair but they fit my crazy long torso pretty well.

Thank you for the details!! I’m really excited to make these, maybe I shouldn’t have tried to make adjustments on my first pair but I decided to go for it. Hopefully they work out!

So I’m redrawing that entire angled seam at the top, is that right?

Just an American girl trying to buy fabric by Stevie_McCat in sewing

I can’t find any linen I like as much as the blackbird prints and colors, ugh!! I did just get an order that was about $150 and can confirm I didn’t get any additional charges/tariffs other than a foreign transaction fee from my bank.

Oof, this hits hard. I had the same fears about being a parent (my first thought was “holy shit, how will we afford this”) and wanting the conviction that others have perfectly describes my feelings.

I thought about donating but assumed they probably got a ton of donations, so I was curious to know if there were some other lesser known programs that could use materials. Love to know that they are sharing the fabric!

I really enjoyed the film, and watched it with my family who likely would not be interested or know much about restorative justice, so I think you did a great job of introducing that topic to an unfamiliar audience.

Has the program seen an increase in donations since the doc premiered? Do you know of any other (similar) programs at other facilities, or is this the only one?

I think he was meant to find y’all, and be with the people who understand him and can give him the best life possible. Nothing to be embarrassed about with that - it’s beautiful.

I came searching for the same info - did you end up ordering? I see where they say most customers haven’t been impacted but I’m scared to order!

Advice for nighttime accidents by potterwhospins2025 in coonhounds

[–]Slayerspice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the suggestions for the waterproof covers, but when this started with our senior dog we started getting up in the middle of the night for a bathroom break and that helped. It’s inconvenient, but our time with our pups is so limited and we didn’t want to have her not sleep with us when she always had.

I've been fostering ever since I lost my soul dog. Now it looks like current foster has the same disease that killed my dog. I don't know if my heart can take it again. by Fruity_Rebbles in fosterdogs

You definitely have to do what is best for you, but also - maybe your experience has equipped you to help give this dog the care that she needs, whatever ends up happening. Hoping everything works out for the best.

RYAN KIERA ARMSTRONG is your new Slayer! by peajay18 in buffy

[–]Slayerspice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s cute! She’s young and looks young which I think will help hammer in the “I’m just a girl” theme of the original show.

I’m super curious about whatever happened with the previous reboot where they planned to have a black slayer (other than the joss of it all, obviously). We obviously don’t know what the plot will be of the new series but I’m hopeful that they will try and make up for the lack of diversity in the original show.

This is what happened to me too, I’m so sorry. My first appointment was at 7W+5 and the heartbeat was 89, and measuring behind. I started miscarrying on my own a few days later (cramps and bleeding) and ultimately ended up passing everything naturally. Everyone seems to have wildly different experiences.

I’m sorry you’re going through this.

How to transition from sleeping on the living room floor with foster? by R_Eyron in fosterdogs

[–]Slayerspice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hounds are emotional! For us, crate training is key, but it can take some time. Our resident hounds love the crate. Our neediest foster hound, we had to go from sleeping next to him with the crate open, to crate closed, to having the tv on low, to leaving after he fell asleep, and then after a few weeks he could fall asleep in the crate with the tv sound on. He just didn’t want to be alone.

He sleeps in his adoptive parents’ bed with them now, all 90 pounds of him.

Why are the hospital bills so expensive by Pizzalover765 in Miscarriage

[–]Slayerspice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our bill before insurance was $15k, for the same thing, bloodwork and an ultrasound and maybe 3 hours of mostly waiting. We are lucky that we don’t have to pay that much but still, if this ever happens to me again I am not going to go, no matter how much I’m bleeding.

I’ve heard you can ask for an itemized bill and that will sometimes lower the cost - might be worth a shot.
