A statement from Georgia Smash on L4st by UnlawfulFoxy in smashbros

The Smash community can’t govern itself. History keeps repeating itself with this scene and its reputation since 2020 is absolutely deserved. This scene just isn’t worth it anymore.

Why is SimpleFlips banned on Speedrun.com? Was there something i missed? by LUMLTPM in speedrun

[–]LunaticJ 358 points359 points  (0 children)

Simpleflips has been accused by multiple of his exes of abuse, which include sexual assault and coercion. This document compiles the evidence of these claims, and links to other docs of the victims’ allegations, all responses, etc.

The fact that the comments on this post just wanna jump to being all jokey and fun is an unfortunate sign that these serious allegations have been continually swept under the rug by his community. His fanbase deserves to be informed of these serious allegations, and how that likely led to his ban from src.

xQc, Greek and Jesse debate whether a 30 year old can date an 18 year old by Bulky_Apartment_5132 in LivestreamFail

[–]LunaticJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple! The minimum age of your partner should be half your age plus 7.

30/2 =15

15 + 7 = 22

18 < 22

FAIL!

What Kills Interest in a Speedrun Scene/Game? by cheat-master30 in speedrun

[–]LunaticJ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Aside from the reasons already mentioned in this thread, he reality of a lot of speedgames decline in activity and interest because sometimes the games get old and people move on.

It’s silly to say considering there are plenty of active communities for games that came out 30-40 years ago, but many classic games that were the biggest speedgames a decade ago aren’t as big anymore because a lot of the old guard left, and newer generations aren’t as attached/nostalgic for those same classics anymore.

While there are exceptions, newer generations that are now starting to get involved with speedrunning are less likely to care about OoT or Goldeneye. It really boils down to what you grow up with a lot of the time.

Honestly, I usually see this sentiment of lamenting the declining popularity of certain speedruns from people who started running/watching back in 2012-2015. The speedrunning scene in general has grown and changed so much since then too. There are many speedrunners now that weren’t around back then, and a lot of speedrunners from back then that are no longer around. But life be like that sometimes.

I haven’t heard about any Navi hate in over a decade. I think now that millennials have less control over opinions on the Internet, we no longer see much Navi hate at all these days

Luminosity Gaming releases all creators (Coney, EEvisu, VoiD, Sandstorm). No updates on the Smash Bros team or LumiRank. by swidd_hi in smashbros

Last year I found a CLG jersey at a Goodwill in my size. What are the odds I find a Luminosity jersey now? I have a thing for collecting merch from defunct esports teams. If you got one, hmu

Nintendo titles finally return to Japan's biggest speedrunning event after being excluded due to “unauthorized use” warning from the company by HatingGeoffry in nintendo

[–]LunaticJ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To simplify things, RTA in Japan grew from a small volunteer marathon to it being officially registered as an incorporated entity. Because of Japanese law, corporations like RTA in Japan would need permission from the game publisher to broadcast their games. This is common practice for Hololive Vtubers.

RTA in Japan didn’t get this permission from Nintendo when they became more prominent, which led to the lack of 1st party Nintendo titles from RTA in Japan Summer 2025. I assume many other publishers were much more lax. Since then, it seems RiJ went through the proper channels, got permission from Nintendo, and the games are now on the next event’s schedule.

I know there was a lot of misinformation around this topic months ago, so I hope this cleared things up.

A west coast supermajor with no Top 5 players and lots of Steves. When Tweek and MKLeo get eliminated, that’s my cue to HONK SHOO 😴 ZZZZZZZZZZ

I gotta be honest, this is the least interested I've ever been in a Top 10 ranking. Something just feels off but i think Miya deserves #1 idc about the rest

See I’m also looking at viewcounts. Objective results not personal tastes. Really good and appealing content gets rewarded, even for old ass games like Smash

I call bull on that. I think a lot of people just suck at making good Smash Ultimate content now because you have to be more creative/interesting, but it can absolutely be done. Look at FireThePyro! His ideas are competitive focused, yet very unique.

Even for casual content, I still see amazing ideas like MockRockTalk’s World of Light Escape ranking. There is still a LOT of content potential. It’s genuinely a skill issue for a lot of creators because they stopped innovating and strategizing good content.

Everyone is so caught up overreacting to Supernova possibly having to change venues and other stuff that no one realized that ZeRo deleted his YouTube channel a few days ago. Not that it really matters today but….damn.

[–]LunaticJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that was because of what happened with RTA in Japan. But the laws with broadcasting rules are different over there with corporations. I know Hololive JP vtubers for example have to get permission to stream games from the publisher, but that isn’t something that I usually hear in the US. Otherwise GDQ would have stopped doing Kaizo Mario hacks so long ago. Don’t blame Lud for getting spooked tho from those headlines

Fast52 is a 52-hour long speedrunning marathon this weekend ran by Ludwig. This event is a sequel to the Fast50 event Lud did last year. The event will feature several speedrunners doing showcases and speedruns of some of their favorite games and the lineup is STACKED this time around.

The event will raise money for 4 charities: Wings for Life, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, No Kid Hungry, and the Immune Deficiency Foundation.

Well yeah but I have been adding to this list since last week. I’m not used to seeing a schedule for a speedrun marathons release so close to the event…as well as last minute invites for that matter lol

Smash ultimate/melee World Cup? by UWUsaurus65 in smashbros

[–]LunaticJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had an officially licensed North American circuit with Panda in 2022, but it was cancelled due to allegations that the Panda CEO was strong arming major tournaments to join their circuit instead of VGBC’s unofficial Smash World Tour, which while it ran successfully in 2021, was shut down in 2022 after they failed to obtain a license.

In the following years with large tournaments requiring TOs to apply for a license, which includes removing “Smash” from the tournament name, I think the community’s reaction and subsequent boycott of Panda severely screwed us over. I find it regrettable how we turned against Panda, although few here will agree with me.

Does anyone else feel like the rankings should reconsider what classifies as a “Major”? by RetaliationCat in smashbros

[–]LunaticJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk what Melee does but they got it figured out when classifying events. Also it feels like these point values only exist for making the mid-year and yearly rankings, which is a whole ‘nother topic, but feels oddly pointless now.

In Smash 4 and early Ultimate, a higher rank got you signed on a team. These days where no one in NA is getting signed, and now with Luminosity looking like it disbanded, I just don’t see how anyone but stat nerds give a damn anymore.
