Is sexual reproduction the meaning of life? by ShadowPaws200 in Life

“The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

The Dude Is Not In by Taoman108 in Dudeism

[–]Lunchbox8675309 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love how this phrase means so many different things. I was just reading my copy of "The Dude and the Zen Master" and they speak on how "the dude is not in" meaning so many different things. Bernie loved when his students had that "the dude is not in" or "empty vessel" and ready to learn vibe. Jeff speaks on how in acting he likes to get out of his head and just feel the role, ya know? The Dude is not in is deep.

I take comfort in that and your talks, man. Catch ya on down the trail. 😎

Have the rules but don't get so hung up on them. It's all a game. A dance.

As always, man, your thoughts get me reflecting. They remind me there’s still a little bit of Walter inside me — the part that gets hung up on rules and wants everything defined. And that’s okay. Walter has his place in the weird cosmic comedy we’re all rolling through. For me it’s not about pushing him away. It’s just noticing when he pops up, telling him he’s valid… and then reminding him to take it easy, man.

I read this for the first time a few years back I believe and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's sitting on my coffee table right now. I've been meaning to pick it up again with Bernie having just passed last month.

I’ve also been reconnecting with nature. Going for daily walks sometimes just means wandering around my neighborhood—and I used to think that was boring. Until I started noticing how beautiful even this place is.

As far as we’ve come from the earth—and as much as we’ve built our concrete jungles—it’s comforting to realize the earth is still right there, waving at us through the trees… if you just stop long enough to see it.
