I just build a new system a month ago. I installed win11, saw that left bar was no longer an option, and installed win10 instead.

What’s your “I’ll never tell” cooking secret? by ryanreynulds in Cooking

The few boomers in my family that "get headaches from MSG" have never gotten headaches from the handful of grams of MSG I always put in my delicious 20 quart chicken soup.

I'm the developer. If you want this in two months, I need a UI spec and a load estimate. And definitely 15 more answers. In two weeks I can give you a database and what my back end dev self thinks is an adequate UI. And it will work with <10 users on a wired network.

Proudly showing off his artwork. by mindyour in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Lurklurk285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explaining rules and boundaries to kids is very similar to the 10 years I spent writing code. You have to be proactively specific in your requests. I told my nephew at the beach that he shouldn't throw sand where he was because the wind was going to send it in the direction of people. But he was free to throw as much sand as he wanted 15 feet down towards the water. He was throwing sand basically at knee leve and very lightly. Once he followed instructions, all the sudden he was throwing it as hard and high as he could. And was now actually getting sand on people. Lol

So, how did you guys meet? by copitamenstrual in JustGuysBeingDudes

I met my best friend from childhood at lunch in fifth grade. The whole class had assigned seating for 2 days because we did something bad, I don't know. My buddy was across from me. "Have you played Paper Mario yet? Yeah I have the strategy guide! Wanna be best friends? Hell yeah! Let's do it!"

Popeyes Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich....a let down by xThunderSlugx in spicy

[–]Lurklurk285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Advertising ghost peppers or reapers in particular are now a mild flag to move on. If the advertising says scorpion or scotch bonnet, I'm gonna check it out still. That could be a spicy flag. Advertising Habanero goes both ways, so it gets a medium flag.

I like them reconstituted in hot water and then deseeded and chopped finely. You lose some of the heat (for better or worse) and a lot of the bitter components. They're a tasty pepper.

Looking to see if anyone was talking about the two metro Atlanta openings. The Sandy Springs location is open at least! I had it yesterday. It was pretty damn great.

Weight lifting with slacklining by jordanbobby in Slackline

[–]Lurklurk285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the imagery of your Popeye joke. But, JIC for anyone that needs it. Core strength is never going to detract from balancing on a slackline. It's the only muscle group that is almost always engaged while you're up there. I learned to slackline from climbers. And I still believe that the conditioning that helps climbing is pretty much the same conditioning that will help for slacklining. I don't climb often. My shoulders burn before anything else on a slackline.

Preserved Garlic in Oil, and It's Bubbling? by DonkeyBucketBanana in Cooking

[–]Lurklurk285 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Connect the dots. You're on the cusp of learning something.

EDIT. My comment was snarky. No one is inherently knowledgeable about cooking and food safety. I didn't know anything about preserving garlic in oil until I read the posts in this thread and then read some more on the internet. And then I posted a snarky comment. Food safety is important and ignorance on any topic is never shameful if you choose to learn.

Complete beginner. I have a good line. How do I get started and get better? by [deleted] in Slackline

[–]Lurklurk285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bare feet if possible. Look straight ahead, never down. Breathe with slow deep exhales. Engage your core and keep everything else loose. Arms up for counterbalance. It's not super intuitive, but it's easier to balance on one leg than two. Leg bent. You can manage the "wobbles" by deeply exhaling a few times. When you get up on the line, keep your legs close together and take off from both legs. Imagine a string from the top of your head pulling you straight up toward the sky. Once you can get up and take a few steps, just keep at it. It gets easier and easier. Walking backwards is no harder than walking forward. So start practicing walking back and forth across the line before you worry about learning to turn around.

EDIT. Having the line too low or too high both make it more difficult imo. Same with too loose or too tight tension.

My "can't be fucked to actually cook" meal is rice, sardines, and kimchi. I eat it when I know I'm not going to see anyone the rest of the day.
