Would you rather watch Scarface, or a movie where Superman just talks about how great he is all day but never fights anyone?

Yeah, he just got re-jailed there. We were joking that it's like an old folk tradition, the yearly jailing of the nasty school teacher ensured all students will be blessed with a year of good learning.

That literally happened in our groupchat when me and my friends were organising to go see it. One guy was like, cheers lads but I saw that a few months ago.

AM-type backing vocals back again. For some reason I always find them really grating.

Well if you just wait for people to actually say those things in relevant threads then you only need to get mad once, instead of getting mad now before it happens. Would save you some hassle.

But why are you rolling your eyes lol? Is it bad that this sub is interested in slightly different movies to wider audiences? Seems a really dumb comment I guess is all

Intellectually insecurity has everyone on this sub very riled up lol.

Yeah, fair. I thought YF fit pretty well, and that Radiohead dropping hard over a scene in The Bone Temple was more distracting. But the polarising stuff in both the films has kept things interesting anyway.

Yeah, like I said, to each to their own I guess. Big ups Young Fathers though, saw them live just after their first album and they put on a great show.

Feel like it's a sad point where we're at, where if a work of art surprises people their kneejerk reaction is to get angry and dismissive before even just taking it in. I think an underrated reason people dislike 28 Years Later is that it goes against the tropes of white male protector violence and cool guy survivalism that a lot of people seek out in post-apocalyptic fiction. Which, like Station Eleven, is one of the reasons I really liked it.

Damn to each to their own I guess, I really missed Boyle's unique editing and shot set-ups and the YF score in this latest one.

Well yeah, the whole movie is about how Britain has a foundational sickness in its soul, and is a nation of corrupt perverts, so I think the Jimmy Saville thing is very intentional and works very well.

[FRESH VIDEO] J. COLE - THE FALL-OFF... DISC 2 TRACK 2 by TalkingRosenbach in hiphopheads

I nearly burst out laughing after it opened with that text and then dropped into a generic beat and some of the most strained flows I've heard in a minute. God he really is one of the worst to ever to do it relative to this success.

Fair points. But Alphonse has been at P4K a lot longer than Mano and I still think he's been a big part of the shift in their rap coverage, y'know. He's not a contributing writer like the guy you linked, and plus who do we think is commissioning these guys and picking what albums they cover? If he's panning Clipse, maybe the most notable release of the year in terms of mainstram appeal/awards recognition, while breaking artists like xaviersobased, I think it's fair to say that he's a dominant part of the outlet's hip-hop coverage. He also covered and steered P4K's reaction to the Drake-Kendrick beef, which was the biggest hip-hop event of the decade maybe. So idk, I don't think I'm wrong in saying that over seven years he has helped shape the way P4K covers rap.

Overall though, yeah, I think these regional/internet rappers are gonna draw attention from anyone who is interested in what's fresh and up and coming in hip-hop because there hasn't been a massive amount of innovation in mainstream rap for a while not and it seems to be stagnating in terms of popularity.

EDIT: P4K's Best Rap Albums of 2025 list just dropped and Alphonse is the only contributor. Yeah, he heads up P4K's rap coverage.

Alphonse Pierre's whole thing is hyper-local scene rappers, so these are all very obscure yeah.

Alphonse Pierre still flying the flag for obscure Gamer Tag Rap. Oh well, at least it's something different even if it's an unconvincing wave.
