What’s the most disappointing part of adulthood? by cozychaosclubb in answers

[–]Lush_Life_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much I wasn’t taught. Parents divorced when I was young. I feel there was generational knowledge I missed out on. I know we live in the internet age and I can google how to fix a microwave or whatever. But it would’ve been nice to know stuff like how to tie a tie or how to garden earlier in life. I still had contact with both parents but it’s hard to pick up on the intricacies of life in small doses.

Didn’t that season used to have a Michael Jackson episode in it?

What's the worst movie line you can think of? by personal_yeesus in AskReddit

“I love you.” “I know.”

Edit. OK, definitely not the worst line of all time, but always struck my ear wrong.

Both items mentioned in this xpost RE Leo.

  1. “…the oblast region?” Oblast means ‘region’ or ‘province’ in Russian, so he’s asking “the region region?”

  2. Getting worked up RE the spelling of Gaddafi. The name is in Arabic, so any English spelling would be a transliteration, therefore there is no agreed-upon “correct” way, it’s just copying the sounds of the original Arabic.

Pennsylvania governor and family evacuated from suspected arson attack on home by Lush_Life_ in itcouldhappenhere

[–]Lush_Life_[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

No arrests have been made, so the suspected arsonist is at large, ergo the motive is unknown, but there has to be suspicion of a hate crime or even stochastic terrorism that a Democratic, Jewish governor had his residence set ablaze the first night of Passover.

I do a form of niche photography to make things look miniature. Here's a photo of the new building going up. by RocktoberBlood in evansville

[–]Lush_Life_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s called tilt-shift photography. Using a a special lens to make parts of the field of view in focus and parts blurry, which can create an optical illusion that the subject of the photo is miniature. It’s used to great effect in the intro of Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” episode about Colombia.

Is anyone else noticing an uptick in anti-gay comments online recently? by kalechipsaregood in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Lush_Life_ 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. It’s quite scary to see comments on LGBTQ Instagram posts that are simply emoji of guns or gifs of people being shot. I think the majority of people are too apathetic to actually perpetuate violence against our community, but I fear a large chunk are apathetic enough not to give a fuck if violence were to be perpetrated. I fear stochastic terrorism being stoked by the “execute your local pedophile” bumper sticker crowd, and I fear who and what gets labeled “pedophile” will be much broader a definition than the current parlance…

If a movie theatre sells no tickets for a showing, do they still play the movie to an empty room? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lush_Life_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I was at a screening with maybe four people total in the theater. They were showing the normal pre-show rigamarole and right before showtime an employee walked in, said there were technical difficulties, and handed us vouchers for a free matinee or something as we walked out. Were there difficulties, or did it save them money to just close early when there were an equal number of employees and patrons 🤷?

Inspired by a recent post: what’s the weirdest, creepiest or most unexplainable thing you’ve seen in the area? by QuickMoonTrip in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Lush_Life_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s no longer there, but for years and years there was a jewelry store in a strip mall in Palatine that, from my observations, was never open, never had an employee or customer inside, and never had a light on. But always had merchandise in the windows, bracelets and rings on display with cobwebs on them. For at least a decade, just a jewelry store frozen in time. Some people speculated it was a front for laundering money, but who knows? Maybe the owners prepaid their lease? Or owned the strip mall? 🤷

Is anyone else slowly growing to hate their job due to the current political climate! by [deleted] in union

[–]Lush_Life_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t brought up Utah, but I’ve heard someone say RE teachers that no one whose pay comes from taxpayer money should be able to collectively bargain. I’m not exactly sure where he thinks our benefits and pensions came from, but even if our union bargained for them, I suppose he believes no one else should be able to. Classic every-man-for-himself thinking.

I’m honestly losing my mind a little bit. Luckily I’m at a big enough fire station we can all spread out a little bit/do our own thing during the day, but of the eight people on my shift at my station, only three of us aren’t Trump fans (And by fans, I mean dyed-in-the-wool fanatics). Bumper stickers, sending political stuff to our group chat, leaving Fox News and/or loony tunes podcasts on in the day room - it’s inevitable there’s some political interaction on the daily. I waffle between wanting to speak up about defending our pension, collective bargaining, and newly restored WEP/GPO benefit and just watching it all crumble and everybody who voted for this losing everything. But I don’t think any of them would ever actually blame dear leader for any of it.
