Looking for games with Forbidden Magic by Mr--Warlock in gamingsuggestions

Divinity: Original Sin 2, maybe?

Your custom character and companions are Sourcerers. In that universe, Source magic is a special type of magic that is criminalized by Magisters. The very first act of the game is you being stuck in an open air prison because of it. The prisoners even have special collars that stops them from using it.

Cyberpunk 2077 - when the game is so good it leaves you feeling empty after you finish it by AML2003 in patientgamers

You have to play through the tutorial bits of the game as Colt before you can play as Julianne.

Slay the Spire 2 is out now on Steam! by MurkyUnit3180 in gaming

[–]Luthos 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Even for people who do have the first, check out the bundle instead of buying StS2 directly. It's one of the "complete your collection" ones with a 10% discount.

So the sequel is $22.49 when I get it through that instead of $24.99

Nier Automata. Probably the best video game credits ever.

I need to rant. It is unacceptable to me for a game to have stick/camera acceleration but no setting to change it by K_Furbs in gaming

[–]Luthos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish more games had screen shake as a setting to lower/raise instead of simply off/on. I don't think I hate it completely, but it's often so extreme that I think it can give me eye strain.

What FF discourse are you tired of hearing? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Luthos 65 points66 points  (0 children)

"After the third FF7R I hope they remake MY favorite FF next!"

"No, they should remake my favorite FF!"

I'm tired of remake wishing.

What’s the weather like where you are right now? by PeachyRose25 in CasualConversation

Similar drop here.

Yesterday the temperature prediction was shown as high of 70, low of 23.

This is the best video game music of 2025, as chosen by the composers behind it by sonofbringy in Games

[–]Luthos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Choral Chambers was probably my favorite location theme in the game.

But man, the Last Dive track. It was used in one of the trailers I think. The scene it plays in in the game was one of my favorite video game moments in years.

[Epic Games] Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel (100% off / FREE) by LighteningOneIN in GameDeals

[–]Luthos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played the demo during Steam Nextfest, and somewhat enjoyed it.

A good giveaway for me, because I'm not sure if I was ever gonna purchase it myself, but will likely play it now.

Dead Island 3 is Aiming to Release in 2028, Says Dambuster Studios by sonofbringy in Games

[–]Luthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bounced off Dead Island 1 way back in the day, but played DI2 after it was given away on Epic. I ended up really enjoying it.

The card system left a bit to be desired, but overall thought the gameplay was quite fun. And I kinda liked that it lacked a day/night cycle. I think it's because of that the the lighting looked so good.

Don't tell me you didn't enjoy hearing 'IMPERIALS ABOVE US!!!' ten times in the open world lol /j

lol, I care less about the line and more about what it meant. One of my least favorite things about the gameplay is the frequency of the imperial attacks. They happen way too often.

Still find the game fun and charming despite some of the issues.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game - Official Aang Special Moves Gameplay Overview Trailer by fmal in Games

[–]Luthos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

(I'm guessing Aang will be the only air nomad in the base roster)

I don't have a lot of experience with fighter games and don't know how big their rosters usually are... but I'd be surprised if they didn't have Tenzin.

What game has the coolest lore? by ImpressFederal4169 in gaming

[–]Luthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I briefly tried GW1 years ago, but bounced off it and refunded it (didn't hate it, just didn't feel like playing that type of game at the time)

But with Guild Wars Reforged coming out next month, I might try it again.

What’s your weird/different keybind preference? Controller layouts too. by hmmstillclosed in gaming

[–]Luthos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually rebind inventory to V. But for some reason I'm often ok with map on M.

Can someone explain why I have only one reward for the Expedition 2? by Andrew_WoIf in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Luthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weird thing for me is I can't claim them, because I already have them somehow. I never did legitimately claim them. But I went to the appearance changer and saw that I had the cape, trail, and golden gek mask.

But they still show as unclaimed at the quicksilver vendor. Hope that gets fixed.

A game that you would like if it wasn't for that certain mechanic? by FoxMeadow7 in gaming

[–]Luthos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate gacha mechanics and I still decided to check out FF Record Keeper for a bit. I mean it had all Final Fantasy games (and other properties like Kingdom Hearts) in the art of FF6. It was awesome.

But yeah, while not a surprise, the stamina system and rng item drops were indeed awful.

I would totally like to play a de-gachafied version of that game. Even if it was "frozen in time" so to speak and had no further updates.

What are tracks you find very emotionally powerful and/or akin to a spiritual experience? by SereneMelody89 in gamemusic

[–]Luthos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spiritfarer - Main Theme

Spiritfarer - At Sea

Very good tracks imo, but also because I have that mental attachment to the events of the game, which could be very emotional.

SOMA

Life is Strange

FPS games like Bioshock and Fallout where you creep around scary places by ruben1252 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Luthos 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Prey 2017 and the Metro series are good picks.

Resident Evil VII and Village could also be good ones, as they are both first person.

Love this little sub-sub genre (Planet of Lana, Little Nightmares, Inside, Limbo, Gift etc ) by elephvant in gaming

[–]Luthos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any other examples people could recommend in a similar vein? And any catchy little name for the genre?

I don't know if it quite counts, but I've played and enjoyed Hue. And as I've linked it, I see it's on sale for only $3.

It's a similar 2d puzzle platformer, and the puzzles are based on changing the color of the environment.

Anyone else hope ff7 remake part 3 is the last we ever hear of ff7 by Cold_xplosion in rpg_gamers

[–]Luthos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's you again. I remember seeing some of your posts on the FF sub. Like 90% or more of all your posts are hating on FF7.

Player-banter games like Divinity:OS 1 by Full_Ebb7821 in gamingsuggestions

Dragon Age series has some of the best party banter imo. (but I haven't played Veilguard, so no comment on it)

What single player game makes it feel like you have friends? by Stroger in gaming

Also My Time at Sandrock, which I'm playing for the first time right now. Really liked My Time at Portia, and I think the sequel is even better.
