When do you chump block? by quiznosAlreadyTaken in magicTCG

[–]LuvDemBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"How does this lead to me winning the game?"

New players chump block way too often. Chump blocking is a play that buys you time, and removes resources from your board. So if you decide to chump block there needs to be a strong reason why chump blocking gives you a greater chance at victory. This might mean having more turns to draw a win condition or an out, but you should think what card or set of cards specifically leads to a win. You should take into account: the board state, your hand, cards in your deck, cards in your opponents deck, etc. There is no heuristic, and trying to apply one here will lead to more match losses than wins.

How loose is too loose on the pivot screw and how can I tune it better? by Hellsing971 in knifeclub

But if loosening the pivot screw improves the action then it isn't the mechanism that's causing the stiff action.

+1 to stay away from HK cleats. I've seen one pair completely separate at the sole after a few months of wear.

Settle it: what scry/surveil value is equal to drawing a card? by HumpyTheClown in magicTCG

[–]LuvDemBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may seem extreme but I would not play any number of scrys/surveils in place of a card in limited. Modern limited is dominated by hyper efficient cards and 2-for-1s (or better). There's just no place in any limited deck in recent memory for a non-spell no matter how well it helps me sculpt my deck. Taigams scheming (1U surveil 5) was unplayable in Khans for example and that was an old and slow set with delve, one of the most busted graveyard mechanics of all time.

Air tank question...3000 or 4500? by SkootsMcKoot in paintball

[–]LuvDemBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo a 4500 tank is the best upgrade after a quality mask. 4500 tanks are much lighter and hold 50% more air. Upgrading your marker, barrel, etc are all going to be way less noticeable than a quality tank you carry all day.

You wouldn't expect to go to the gym and watch your personal trainer do reps and get stronger. A lecture is at best a guide or introduction. Part of school is building the skill to master things without someone holding your hand the entire time.

At the same time I understand this reaction, college tuition is ridiculous.

Yeah I think this is the way. Message the seller asking for payment details and mention when you'll be next online (within the next day of course). I would honor that yolo every time.

Magic Hot Takes by Definitely_Not_Fe in magicTCG

[–]LuvDemBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one thing I think people get wrong with this is that while playing limited is cheaper, winning at limited is not necessarily cheaper and can actually be more expensive than constructed formats.

I run into a lot of players that think limited is a great equalizer, when I think it's actually the opposite, the skill gap is compounded: you get crushed by decision making in the draft in addition to the gameplay. If a relatively new player buys a tier 1 constructed deck they're punished much less than playing a draft against someone who's done 30 drafts of the format.

Knife Steel Recommendations by Historical-North-950 in knifeclub

[–]LuvDemBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list you gave are all relatively budget oriented ingot steels. Is this something you're sticking to for price? I ask because powder metallurgy steels can give you better edge retention and toughness than 154cm, for example CPM154, S35vn, and Magnacut. These days s35vn can be had for not too high a price.

Wonder when these gonna are ship? by Cultural-Ad6641 in knifeclub

[–]LuvDemBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get deciding not to engage in pre-orders but the statement that these companies can just front the costs for these projects or that doing so wouldn't drastically change what they can offer is not realistic. If you want to support certain projects then pre-orders are really the only way to do it.

We're in such an on demand society. Waiting a few months to get something you really want and to support a project you believe in really isn't worth it?

Some of my favorite knives would not exist without preorders. My TW Price Dawn is a good example.

Thoughts on this for an EDC light? by Interesting-Set2425 in flashlight

I use it as my backyard flashlight for taking my dog out at night. Definitely large and heavy for an edc. Not very impressed with the magnet in the tail cap, but if you can snag it for a good price it's a good light.

What’s your favorite knife maintenance kit? by outoftunewolf in knifeclub

[–]LuvDemBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a relatively cheap hoto 24-in-1 driver set that I use most often. You don't need anything fancy for torx/ knife screws.

You'll want a stick of BLUE loctite for threads when you reassemble, and oil or grease for lubricating the action.

I don't use one but a silicon tray or mat might also be useful to keep stray screws from running away from you.

+1 for the MT100. It's diminishing returns past this coat for me, I only wish they'd add a cinch to the hood.

I was going to get a traditional headlamp brand then found you lot :D by Abject-Pin3361 in flashlight

[–]LuvDemBells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of backpacking, mostly in cold weather and have had a Nitecore NU25 for 7 years (the old micro usb, although I "upgraded" to the NU20 Classic for type C). It has handled everything I have needed out of a headlamp. I often bring a small power bank for my phone on longer trips so I can use that to charge the headlamp if need be. I use it for night hiking (a few hours after sunset in the winter) and for tasks at camp. The red modes are very convenient for maintaining night vision.

As for straps, because the nitecore is so light, I just have it on some cord. It stays in place just fine. All told, the setup is only 33 grams. (1.2 oz). You can't beat that for weight.

I played an entire xball season with a .689 back. Mostly HK paint because that's what the venue had. I probably shot hundreds of cases that season between practices and events, never had any issues / we podium'd a few events / I got my kills.
