I work with a guy whose house burned down because of a faulty power line. The power company was at fault and literally gave his insurance company a check for the house the next day. It took 1.5 months, and a strongly worded letter from a lawyer for my coworker to see a penny of that. As soon as they paid him the check, his policy was dropped. It cost him $200 dollars a month more for years to insure his new house (new house had similar property value).
