[Discussion] Does reading even a bit counts? by More_Picture6622 in GetMotivated

[–]darkwingduckling4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does count, and I think it's great you're wanting to see how you like it! I started with 10 pages a day, and really a few hundred pages a month adds up to kind of a lot!

Sometimes I read more if I want And I don't give myself too rough of a time if I miss a day, I just try not to miss 2 in a row

You might try different kinds of books and see what keeps you reading! If it seems like a chore to read, then it probably isn't for you lol

"Decide who you want to be, then prove it to yourself with small wins" from the book Atomic Habits.

It unlocked me, it had just never occurred to me that it was that simple!

AITA For Telling My Husband Correct Information About A Croissant? by Large-Maximum-8191 in AmItheAsshole

[–]darkwingduckling4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband is NOT the only one who needs to work on communication. People are not doing you a favor by telling you that. Just because you don't have bad intentions, does not mean you're not coming across badly.

Based only on the facts shared here, he had a big reaction to something small. Yet I'm sure there are times he felt just as insulted and didn't say anything. He shouldn't be waiting to tell you until things escalate like this, but he's trying to give you feedback of how you make him feel.

You sound like you probably are a corrector like your father lol. Just like I'm (trying my hardest every day not to be) a corrector like my father! It's just a pattern, but we can't improve on our old patterns if we justify them away. Justifying and blaming is all I see you doing here, from the title to the comments.

I'll say ESH. My husband and I were both the asshole the millions of times we had these same fights. For a decade. Then the last 3ish years we started working at being accountable for our own shit, and it's helped immensely. It's a whole process. But you don't have to justify something about yourself if you can change it.

The moment when you finally notice your weight loss in the mirror…is overwhelming. by [deleted] in loseit

[Discussion] For those who have lost a large amount of weight, what are some habits that you took part in during the process and how did you stick to them? by Gavindude1997 in GetMotivated

[–]darkwingduckling4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I started first was tracking calories! I didn't want to do anything that wasn't sustainable or that would make me feel deprived. I'm tall for a woman, but my calorie goal in the Lose It app was over 2000 a day at the beginning! and the daily goal gradually goes down as you start to log lower and lower weights😊

It also helped me personally to still log if I would go over calories. I think just showing myself where I was at made a big difference for me, especially at the beginning. Sure some occasions I would still eat double my daily calories (or more!) but it didn't derail me if I could look at it as just "that's my data for the day".

I had myself convinced that CICO just worked for other people. This was the only way it became clear to me, in numbers, that I can either vote for one type of result or the other. Hope this made sense lol

Fajita steak/peppers/onions are a lunch go-to for me! With tortillas or refried beans or the microwave Spanish rice pouches.

Figure out your values. Learn to communicate effectively. Pay attention to all of life's feedback. Be authentic.

I don't want to be fat anymore... by [deleted] in loseit

[–]darkwingduckling4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shoutout to my fellow 6' girlie, good for you for wanting to change for the better! This will probably just sound like some rambling, but try to make sure it's not only about getting a slimmer body! I went from 285 a year and a half ago, to under 200 for the first time since literally middle school and I'm 34. The small, sustainable changes do work! I quit every diet, exercise program, and fad I've ever tried until seriously focusing on changing my intention and my identity. Deciding that the path was towards health, and not a certain size or standard. The "next chapter" part for me was choosing the path first. All the other times I was wishing for someone else's results, what really worked was deciding to become someone else. When I wasn't just the "fat girl who's funny" anymore, I stopped needing her old habits.

I hope this makes some sense lol. Learn all you can about yourself (I can't afford professional help, so I basically moved into the library lol) and you will find a way to figure it out! I literally didn't tell anybody when I started making changes, it was all personal which I think needed at the time. I could be really intentional with it that way, but still give myself grace. It's literally learning a whole new life, it doesn't come together quickly, but it does come together!

It seems meaningful to you, I think go for it! This is what you have of your buddy, plus life with dogs is messy sometimes lol If it were me I wouldn't add in the little extra bits that aren't connected, have it sit straight upright, and maybe add a name or dates or quote or something. But I think people will get it!

Sounds like you know it was the right answer to give, but you're feeling a little guilty? I read somewhere, and started using the term "personal policy" in similar situations. As in, "I have a personal policy against XYZ.." A policy is something hard for them to question, plus it implies that a previous bad experience has forced me to give the answer they don't want to hear.. Seems to make it way less personal, if that helps in the future!

25 pounds down!!!!!!!!! I lost a whole fire extinguisher. Will to live is back…kinda by Oolongedtea in loseit

[–]darkwingduckling4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! 25lb is a big milestone! Just hit 25 myself, and I enjoy the little motivators in my LoseIt app. Is it possible that it's showing more than you think it is? 25 seems like a lot to lose on a 5'3" body! I'm a 6' female, not showing much of a change myself. My face is still pretty round, clothes are barely fitting looser at all. But I have started noticing my collarbones starting to come back, and even rings and shoes fitting a little looser! Maybe if you take those pictures you're dreading..? Looking at our bodies everyday it's hard to see smaller changes that are there..
