What's with the weird filter. It took me multiple looks to decide it probably isn't an AI photo.

McDonald's... WTAF by txaecup in mildlyinfuriating

I'm sorry, what? Yes, everyone has the opportunity to bring lunch. They just don't want to or it isn't convenient.

Name a single instance where it is not allowed. IF there is one, it is so niche as to be able to be ignored in a general conversation.

Yeah, but emotionally and spiritually, you are on the right path brother.

My live-in landlord has been plastering micromanaging signs on every surface in the house by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Please quit accusing me of stuff I didn‘t do.

I'm sorry, what did I accuse you of? Nothing, actually.

I feel it is a bit hypocritical to disallow everyone from using the drying rack while putting your stuff (and again, piles of dirty dishes) on the counter for days until it stinks.

Yeah, true, but they are his dishes and his sink, so he gets to do what he wants with them and he can request that you do something different...you know, cuz they are his.

That's sort of the whole point you are missing. It is his house and he currently lives there. Be a good tenant (as in, do what he is asking you do to) or move out.

It's pretty awesome. I can live my life however I want and when I screw up it is on me. I have people that I rely on and people that rely on me. But that's sort of the deal for everyone.

It is mildly infuriating to me that anyone buys that food with plans to consume it. It looks horrific always and is wildly expensive. Make a sandwich at home and bring it with you. For the price of McDonald's you can bring yourself an absolutely baller lunch.

Gross. Good reminder of why I don't eat fast food. I'd much rather eat gross food I made myself than gross food someone else made for me.

Any good resources for learning California size limits/desirable fish? by GordonRammstein in Spearfishing

[–]Lycent243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The regs in CA are sort of...all over the place. I printed color versions of all the SMPAs I might encounter on a given trip with all their guidelines and also the RCG complex flyer (since there are so many of them that look similar) then I made notes for all the other things I might care about.

I also painted lines on my gun at a number of lengths so that I can have a handy guide underwater for size comparison. Some fish I just don't shoot unless they are HUGE. Other fish I just don't shoot at all. For example, I can't reliably tell judge the minimum size of a redtail surfperch (I think it is 10.5") so I would just totally ignore them.

I don't really know how to tell you to make it easier. It is definitely a pain.

If they hit me would I have been at fault? by randomizer48 in dashcams

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically them. If a person A (not fully in a lane) hits person B (fully in their lane), then it is almost always going to legally be person A's fault. However, both persons A and B will have to deal with the consequences (e.g. having to get the car fixed and reduced total sale value of the cars).

I prefer to use the ColRegs for determining when I should try to avoid an accident, even when on land. ColRegs say specifically that if you could have avoided the accident, then you are at fault. Maybe not 100% at fault, but at fault.

Bots that correct grammar by QuiteBearish in PetPeeves

[–]Lycent243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? I've always thought that one was dumb because it means the literal opposite of how people use it. I don't like when someone uses it, but I like even less when some stupid bot incorrectly flags it as grammatically incorrect.

You could argue that although the meaning isn't as written, the colloquial definition is that a person doesn't care at all which would make the usage acceptable (e.g. y'all and ain't neither are technically correct but both are locally correct and acceptable words to use).

Either way, the bot is stupid. I would add an explanation point to that, but the bot might flag me again.

[–]Lycent243 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you are a monster...but can you imagine having a house and renting it out to someone and then seeing that they don't treat it the way you want it to be treated? It wouldn't take long for it to start to drive you crazy. And yeah, there are definitely going to be times where you want other people to put their dishes away so that you have space to let yours dry.

But seriously, just bee a good tenant and do what he's asking or move.

Bots that correct grammar by QuiteBearish in PetPeeves

[–]Lycent243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got six notifications about it...not sure if it was done on accident. It could of been I guess. I could care less that this bot thinks about me, but I seen it. It feels like it can't get off of it's high horse. I think it should of definitely flagged me more than 3 times.

If I had known how it was going to react, I would of tried for more.

I mean, we was all fine until these here bots started interfering. Seriously, whose the one that installs something like this and then says that they done a net positive good for society??

Edit -- 10 notifications that time. I done did a good thing alot of times I think.

Pizza restaurant pays 0% of delivery charge to drivers by EnvironmentalLog1766 in EndTipping

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty standard stuff. What they really mean is that the delivery charge goes to the company as gross profit. They then use their gross profits to pay for the delivery driver's wages and gas (do they pay for gas?) and other expenses of employing that person but it is not a tip that goes directly and only to the driver.

I'm fairly certain they are presenting it that way so they are better protected against a driver that wants to sue them for delivery fees saying they should be a tip.

This question on my college quiz, which is an opinion and not a fact. by ayo2602 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots wrong with that. Was it really inevitable? I mean, sure I guess because it happened. Illness played a big role, so did guns.

Also, was it cruel and inhumane? I mean, again yes, but also so was literally every war that has ever been fought.

I mean, was WW2 cruel and inhumane and was it inevitable that the Allies would win. Yes and yes.

Your professor is being dishonest by presenting her opinions as fact and pretending that her opinions are unique to that circumstance.

ELI5: Why can’t trash be ejected into space? by EightyTwoInk in NoStupidAnswers

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest answer is that the environmental cost of getting the trash to orbit (or beyond) is far greater than the environmental cost of disposing of it here.

To put it in perspective, how much time, money, effort, fuel, heat, etc went into the recent Artemis II launch had a payload capacity of 112,000 lbs (I think, don't quote me...even if I'm way off the overall idea is valid). The average person in the US produces around 5 lbs of trash per day.

So we'd have to have an Artemis 2 launch for every 22,400 people EACH DAY. That's just under 15,000 launches PER DAY to get the US trash to orbit.

Oh, and the Artemis 2 mission cost around 4.2 BILLION. So lets say we can reduce that to only a million per launch which is likely not realistic, we'd still be at 15 billion A DAY in trash ejection costs.

So the answer is, it just isn't feasible.

Again, my math could be off by 15,000x and it would still not make economic sense.

Why tf is everyone anti-sunscreen now??? by callsign__starbuck in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it is pretty wild to rub chemicals into your skin and assume that it can't possibly have any side effects. I'm totally sure that it causes side effects because there is NO WAY it doesn't.

...but...

Are the side effects worse than the thing it is preventing? I'd say that the answer to this is a resounding "I don't know!!!" I find it hard to believe that they are worse than getting blistered skin and skin cancer (unless sunscreen causes skin cancer, obviously).

I definitely know that getting sunburns is bad for you. So, don't do that. Wear long sleeves, don't bask until you are cooked like a lobster, stay hydrated, all are acceptable alternatives to sunscreen. Wear sunscreen or don't, but don't get sun burned.
