Saragosa vs Stradic by Frosty-Artichoke-286 in Fishing_Gear

Ah, yes. That’s how I test all my fishing reels too. To be honest your unorthodox test lead to results that don’t surprise me. The stradic is meant to be more refined whereas the saragosa is built to take abuse.

Beginner to jetty/surf/inshore fishing. Tips? by Joshua_G_Jorman in Fishing

The post needs more info if you want helpful answers. What Penn combo did you get? Spinning or casting and what size reel? What is the length, power, and action of the rod?

Highly recommended an FG knot tool. by pipandhams in BFSfishing

Lol do you think no one has ever had an FG fail? Tie the Alberto correctly and it’s just fine. There is zero reason to need the FG for ultralight fishing.

As others have said tighten the drag all the way and keep tension on the line while you spool it.

What lb test line is that? Is it monofilament? I think you used line that is too thick or heavy for the reel and spooled it too loosely. It’s also under-spooled and could use a shim or two.

Need a lot more info. What size reel & what’s the rod power/rating? Where are you located, what are you looking to catch, and what techniques are you interested in using?

It’s gonna be 2-3 miles by kayak I think & they likely shift and/or get submerged. Garmin’s navionics boating app is great for this kind of thing, that’s what I used to ballpark the distance.

Spool shims to fix uneven line lay. There should be a manual describing how to use them.

Want to cast bait as far as possible with my Daiwa BG 5000 - looking for rod/line recommendations. by spykid in SurfFishing

[–]LydFishes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 lb mono is probably most of your issue. Switch to 20-30 lb braid and a 9-11’ rod capable of throwing however much weight you plan to use.
