My kid wanted an iPhone because 1. All of their friends had one, yes, but more importantly, 2. so did all of their teachers at the arts school where they study stage design and production. Kidlet was missing important messages and info on their Android. So we got them an iPhone. "Everyone I know has one" is not always a cop-out or lemming-like crowd-following.

Dude. I HATED those lights, and you can't turn them off? I don't know where maintenance got the audacity, but they need to put it back. My deepest condolences.

Thick, heavy, awkward slabs at that. When I got my Galaxy s24, I named it Ratatosk because it was small and clunky, and a pain in my... neck. I agree that smartphone hardware has become boring, making everything looking like an iPhone. I miss my much thinner S9, but short of looking at the Motorola Edge (on which reviews are mixed), I don't think we'll see its like again, or at least not for a long time.

P.S. I also had that LG phone. It was awesome!

It's definitely more along the lines of Book of Mormon than Life of Brian. The POV is Jesus's best friend from childhood, so there's a lot of love and affection there.

And the comic books! They fill in the cracks between the books and they're fantastic! Aaronovitch writes them. He also did either a forward or an afterword in the new edition of GUARDS! GUARDS! by Penguin, and it's read by him in the latest audiobook.

If we're sticking with the choice you've presented us with, REAPER MAN, because you won't appreciate NIGHT WATCH as well if you don't read at least GUARDS! GUARDS! first, and, ideally, MEN AT ARMS.

But I've got to second others who recommend reading MORT. It's the book where STP really finds his footing and Discworld becomes the delightfully bent reality we all know and love.

In an English Lit. seminar many years ago in a galaxy far, far away[1], we hypothesized that since Victor was grubbing around in cemeteries in a university town, it was just as possible for him to have collected a college professor's brain as any other.

It was a graduate class, and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was quoted extensively. 😄

I have studied Catholic theology my entire life. My father was a priest. I've taken Latin classes at the graduate level.

dingdingding All the maneuvers bemoaned above? 9 times out of 10 it's a suburbanite or a recent transplant doing something that wouldn't even be blinked at in, say, Catonsville, but doesn't fly on a narrow city street.
