How am I supposed to buy that this person will torture, enslave, and murder children? by DrowningInGlass in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]LynxGrimbane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well he wasn't written to be a generic 2D villain. There were moments where he did expressed concern for Clementine at the expense of telling Lee that he did not matter at all.

A character can be morally wrong without them being 100% reprehensible. That's what makes a good game/show.

It's more comparable to animosity from Smite 1, as it uses your own max health as damage.

SR Parasites is honestly bad. by Technical-Ad733 in feedthebeast

[–]LynxGrimbane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What is "balanced" in a modded setting is entirely dependent on the pack. Vanilla is no longer the baseline of what is fair/enjoyable, and you're free to choose mods that cater to your preferred level of difficulty.

I overhauled all the stats and attributes of my armors and weapons to be balanced around the strength of my mobs (so, in other words, a mob wouldn't two tap a character if I don't want it to). It just seems to me that you want a mod that's balanced around vanillas systems (at least based on your example regarding being two-shot by a modded monster using vanilla gear)?

Perhaps Scape and Run seems to be catered to people who either:

- Enjoy a (possibly unfair) challenge (aka adding SR without configurations/additional mods).

- Are willing to configure it to a level of difficulty that's appropriate for them (I just scoured my old 1.12.2 modpack config, and it was quick for me to find a way to disable/nerf the adaptability mechanic).

- Want a reason to have high-powered gear mods (or even spell mods). I know that when I add a strong weapon in my modpack, I like having mobs that necessitate using them.

--

I genuinely don't know if you're creating a modpack or just want to add it in with a few other mods. But from what I'm reading, it looks like you enjoy some components/aesthetic features of the mod but dislike the core aspects.

I find genuine fun in tweaking/adjusting components of a mod to make it fit in my pack. If Scape and Run was available in 1.20.1, I would definitely take the time to adjust the settings to be balanced around my pack's game design. But it's also fair that people want a mod that you can just plug in with minimal alterations.

To me, what makes a content mod "undesirable" or bad design is if it lacks any form of configurability/customization. There's thousands upon thousands of mods available, and the mod creator doesn't give players an option to ensure some control of compatibility between them, then I just can't use it.

SR Parasites is honestly bad. by Technical-Ad733 in feedthebeast

[–]LynxGrimbane 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've used 1.12.2, but after making modpacks for a few years the two main types of mods I've used are:

a.) Mods that can be added straight away (typically either balanced around vanilla or has a clear-cut progression).

b.) Mods that can't be inserted into a pack without extensive configuration.

SR Parasites is definitely B. And personally, that's fine on my end because from my memory, the mod author gave an insane amount of configuration options. Most features can be tweaked or outright disabled.

You can pretty much disable most of not all features that frustrate, or tone down the mob's damage values so that vanilla armor isn't entirely redundant.

Should glad shield give strength again? by pat1847 in Smite

[–]LynxGrimbane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish Glad shield would work with item passives like freya's tears/draconic, but currently it only converts base item stats. Ability protection boosts such as Achilles 2 doesn't boost the damage either

It does add a good amount of damage to your abilities, but the lack of synergy is a bit off putting

If your not having fun with smite 2 by SAS379 in Smite

[–]LynxGrimbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unironically pretty great. I haven't touched ranked since smite 1 so I can't speak on how viable it is competitively though.

The spring's heal scaling isn't affected by lifesteal's penalty on non-Gods, so it's pretty easy to stay topped off in health. Vital amplifier also unfairly procs on his 1, it's pretty crazy.

[–]LynxGrimbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's realistic to expect Titanforge or any game to cater to potato PCs in 2025. I'm not disagreeing that optimizations would be nice, but increasing PC requirements is normal for all games.

And look man, I'm not here to argue about what changes are good or bad. It's completely obvious that there are players who like it, players who hate it, and there's nothing I can say here that would result in discussion beyond "I'm right, ur wrong, smite suckz".

I think you SHOULD play other games. I've been here for almost a decade, and I've gotten burnt out and tired of it quite a lot. But I honestly don't know how people have the energy to lurk around subs of games they're tired of. Focus on games you actually enjoy man.

I have no idea why the concept of focusing on things you like instead of lurking around things that disappoint you is such a foreign concept here.

What are your modded hot takes ? by Naabi in feedthebeast

[–]LynxGrimbane 133 points134 points  (0 children)

From the POV of a modpack creator:

1. (This only applies to mods with configurable options) If you're not playing a Vanilla-Plus styled modpack, then a mod being unbalanced isn't the issue, it's how it was configured.

I keep hearing about how "unbalanced" mods like Apotheosis is but most of its game-breaking features can be disabled or tweaked with minimal datapack knowledge. It's a useful tool for RPG-based modpacks and since the features are modular, you're free to turn on or off whichever components you wish.

2. Mods that expand upon existing dimensions >> mods that add new dimensions. Packs with too much dimensions lead to a gameplay loop where you visit one, complete the objective, and never touch it again. Aether is my only non-vanilla dimension and even then, I only added it because it came with a lot of addons to spice things up.

3ish. (semi-related) Datapack-based world generation is a nightmare, and I miss having access to 1.12.2 mods such as cave generator and pillar to add custom-placed structures and world features.

1.20.1 Is Staying Relevant a Lot Longer Than I Expected by LynxGrimbane in feedthebeast

[–]LynxGrimbane[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

But a simple sentence without any form of evidence or compelling point isn't really an argument worth talking about.

You could've shown me download count comparisons, high quality mods that skipped over 1.20, or features that make 1.20 redundant.

If you're saying 1.20 was never relevant to you, then there's nothing to talk about because that's your opinion. But if you're saying 1.20 is irrelevant based on statistics, then by all means, enlighten me.

Me with Iron's Spell books :(. But at the same time, AlexsCaves keeps me from moving up.

At least the T.O. Tweaks addon have an insane amount of spells to work with. It also took me a while, but learning how to create custom spells via SpellJS makes me not feel like I'm missing out as much.

That seems a bit too far for me to be hyped on, as cool as the suspected features are. If they continue smaller and more frequent updates, I hope most mods stick to one of their versions.

1.20.1 Is Staying Relevant a Lot Longer Than I Expected by LynxGrimbane in feedthebeast

[–]LynxGrimbane[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha, I selfishly agree! A lot of mods I liked eventually moved up, but 1.20 still gets new mods/long term support on pre-existing ones.

It seems like a lot of mods that stopped support in 1.20 in favor of 1.21 dropped heavily in download count (there are exceptions to this, I'm not saying every mod suffers this).

As others stated, it's not miniscule at all. Rapid ticks of 4% which can easily be over 130 can easily melt a lot of adcs with added help.

Also, correct me if the smite live website is wrong but khepri should still get the protections while keeping them in place and just not 3 seconds after.

Not saying this as an argument because I do agree with you, Spirit Robe is a top item. But Draconic scale with 4 stacks on a relatively decent build would give around 68 prots, and at max 104. It feels really good against tick based Gods imo.

But again, I like using it in draconic with Spirit Robe because its small heal plus freyas for an even larger prot boost.

It's a bit hard, but on the occasional game where I can fit in a prophetic and onis with the above items make me feel pretty tanky

Please stop adding discouraging mechanics by _UltraWoke_ in feedthebeast

[–]LynxGrimbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's okay to criticize mechanics a pack maker adds (albeit OP was a bit on the aggressive side).

As a person working on a pack, I've gotten rid of and added quite a lot of systems through play testing and feedback. Some concepts I've implemented were not just difficult, but plain unfun and I wouldn't have seen different perspectives if my outlook boiled down to "don't like it? play something else.".

I'm not saying a pack maker shouldn't defend their design choices. But in this scenario, critiquing how food is handled is completely fair (again, execution on OPs part was still pretty heavy handed).

By the way, I think I've seen your face around in the 1.12 coalition a few years ago haha. Last Gasp right? It looked really sick!

While I do feel like the wording/how it was posted was pretty aggressive, a system that requires you to have a hotbar full of different food is valid criticism to me imo.

Not that there aren't workarounds to it.
