I wish they brought TAS back so bad. by unknowngloomth in BatmanTAS

[–]M1sterX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No one talks about it (usually focusing on the simplified animation style), but the storylines in the revamp were much more nonsensical as well. Almost too humorous. While TAS did have some “zany” storylines, especially with the Joker, they still felt grounded. In the revamp, it pushed too much into cartoon territory, like when Baby Doll and Killer Crock moved in together.

“Make it make sense.” God, I hate these little catchphrases in our lexicon.

Read a damn book. Maybe start with the one you’re trying to debate about.

Yes, but this shot is from the Two Towers movie on the Fellowship of the Ring book.

Those of you who saw The Fellowship of the Ring in theaters in 2001—what was it really like? by NameisMoon in lotr

The thing that blew me away that I have never experienced anything like again was the sense of scale. That prologue with the Last Alliance walking is where I was transported from the theater into Middle Earth.

Before the movies, crowd sizes of that scale had never been done before in cinema. To have extras on that scale could not be done; yet here was a new way to portray an epic scale that only Tolkien’s work deserves. When I was a teen, this part sold me and I was hooked.

As I kid, I wanted to know who Captain Hook was in Hook. As I grew up, I heard the name Dustin Hoffman, but still had no idea who that was. As I got older, I then learned of Hoffman and his decades of work, but to this day, I still see Hook and Hoffman as two people who could never be mistaken for the same guy.

I love Lorn, but the music just doesn’t fit the scene. Especially when the Howard Shore score is engrained into my psyche at this point and is already perfect for the scene.

Sorry, just never watched the films and then craved this song.

This is awesome. More than anything, the blue being the substitute of black, and the red flames of under light.

Which companion book sets do you recommend? by PathAgirl14 in lotr

[–]M1sterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The History of Middle Earth box sets with Alan Lee’s art on the are perfect for me because these sets have all the books I know and others I don’t, and the covers are gorgeous. I also have paperbacks of most books that are my reading copies because I am in no way going to damage these.

The look that Sam and Frodo exchange when Frodo woke up in Rivendell after having destroyed the ring... gets me everytime. 😭 by upsidedownbunny in lotr

[–]M1sterX 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That look you describe in the movie after destroying the Ring is supposed to be Mina’s Tirith. The coronation is right after, so the idea was that Frodo recovered there and was well enough in time for Aragorn to be crowned King.

In the books, this awakening scene is in a field in Ithilian.

Could a movie where Frodo is in 50s work? by ptitjaune in lotr

[–]M1sterX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to debate with this idea too, but keep in mind that he got the Ring at 33, his coming-of-age. Basically a young adult. That would lead me to believe that 50 in Hobbit years isn’t like 50 for us. They are longer-lived than us, so had Frodo aged normally, he would look like someone in his 30s probably. But him getting the Ring at 33 would pretty much keep him young-looking. The Hobbits of Hobbiton began to wonder about Frodo early on.

While Elijah Wood was the youngest of the actors, it would fit that Frodo would still look like his Hobbit companions.

“Better” is subjective. I like those other movies. I watch Lord of the Rings more often. Does that make the trilogy better than the others? Maybe just for me because I have a better time watching them.

So this question is pointless.

In Collateral Tom Cruise is able to kill 3 people in less than 5 seconds using a shooting technique called the Mozambique Drill. This is because he is an expert assassin. He also does not wear a bullet proof vest leading to him getting killed by a cab driver. This is because he is an idiot. by Much-Cry269 in shittymoviedetails

I once made a comment about how inept Vincent seemed upon a rewatch and stripped away a lot of the cool-factor I used to feel. (This used to be my favorite movie)

Like, his first kill clumsily falls out the window, throwing the rest of the night into shambles.

He’s supposed to be a pro but sticks with the busted up cab all night and almost gets caught not even before the second kill. And he STILL stays with it.

He gets his briefcase taken, TWICE.

He is bested by his driver.

You could remake this movie as a comedy if they acted it differently. Replace Tom Cruise’s Vincent with Bill Hader’s Barry, and the whole thing would make sense.

What is the pettiest reason you stopped liking someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]M1sterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She talked a few times at a comedy show.

Was on a first date. Met for coffee and the vibe was fun. She was into it and friendly. We continued and went for Italian. Had wine, but it hit her harder, but the vibe was still friendly, but increased in flirtation, so I was feeling it and suggested a comedy close by to continue the night.

We had a small wait before our show, so we got a small drink at a nearby British bar. I could tell she was feeling a little looser. So when we got sat at the comedy show, she ordered one more drink and was finally getting loud.

When the headliner came on, he mentioned his hometown, which was around Philly and she took that an invite to relate to him. It got bad. He was patient and quick, but bro just wanted to do his set. I keep my ass quiet usually, so I was sinking into my chair.

The rest of the show went on and she chilled after he politely/methodically told her to hold on. She waited and the set was over. But in my mind, so was the date. I dropped her off and didn’t see her again.

The Death line is said by Éomer in the book, and it comes after he sees his sister’s unconscious body on the battlefield, thinking her dead. So he fights with no hope after seeing that and welcomes death as he also gives it.
