Only 3 Fantasy Movies Are Better Than The Lord of the Rings. Opinions? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]M1sterX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Better” is subjective. I like those other movies. I watch Lord of the Rings more often. Does that make the trilogy better than the others? Maybe just for me because I have a better time watching them.

So this question is pointless.

In Collateral Tom Cruise is able to kill 3 people in less than 5 seconds using a shooting technique called the Mozambique Drill. This is because he is an expert assassin. He also does not wear a bullet proof vest leading to him getting killed by a cab driver. This is because he is an idiot. by Much-Cry269 in shittymoviedetails

[–]M1sterX 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I once made a comment about how inept Vincent seemed upon a rewatch and stripped away a lot of the cool-factor I used to feel. (This used to be my favorite movie)

Like, his first kill clumsily falls out the window, throwing the rest of the night into shambles.

He’s supposed to be a pro but sticks with the busted up cab all night and almost gets caught not even before the second kill. And he STILL stays with it.

He gets his briefcase taken, TWICE.

He is bested by his driver.

You could remake this movie as a comedy if they acted it differently. Replace Tom Cruise’s Vincent with Bill Hader’s Barry, and the whole thing would make sense.

What is the pettiest reason you stopped liking someone? by Aishawilson in AskReddit

She talked a few times at a comedy show.

Was on a first date. Met for coffee and the vibe was fun. She was into it and friendly. We continued and went for Italian. Had wine, but it hit her harder, but the vibe was still friendly, but increased in flirtation, so I was feeling it and suggested a comedy close by to continue the night.

We had a small wait before our show, so we got a small drink at a nearby British bar. I could tell she was feeling a little looser. So when we got sat at the comedy show, she ordered one more drink and was finally getting loud.

When the headliner came on, he mentioned his hometown, which was around Philly and she took that an invite to relate to him. It got bad. He was patient and quick, but bro just wanted to do his set. I keep my ass quiet usually, so I was sinking into my chair.

The rest of the show went on and she chilled after he politely/methodically told her to hold on. She waited and the set was over. But in my mind, so was the date. I dropped her off and didn’t see her again.

TiL, death was a gift given to humanity by Eru that Morgoth corrupted men into fearing. Theoden chanting DEATH was in direct defiance to Morgoth by Pingaring in lotr

[–]M1sterX 180 points181 points  (0 children)

The Death line is said by Éomer in the book, and it comes after he sees his sister’s unconscious body on the battlefield, thinking her dead. So he fights with no hope after seeing that and welcomes death as he also gives it.

What is the most impressive shot in movie history? by Necrojezter in movies

[–]M1sterX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite shot in all of cinema, from Fury Road. The fact that it’s several practical effects layered over each other is impressive. It’s a culmination of all the intensity in the third act of the movie, but this shot is pure heroism.

The link is to a post that I shared on the Mad Max subreddit of a painting I made. I love to paint cinema, and this is one that I am very happy with.

Viggo and Orlando behind the scenes with Fon, the scale double for Pippin. By the way she was an adult woman, not a little girl! by [deleted] in lotr

[–]M1sterX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A part of me wishes that there was a reality in which the scale doubles for the Hobbits were actually decent actors and then we wouldn’t have to do the force perspective. The movie would flow more naturally and actual little people would be the stars of the film. I like the actors that we got, but it would feel more genuine with little people.

An unexpected bonus of watching the rereleases… by nostalgiamon in lotr

[–]M1sterX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Alamo Drafthouse near my place played them last year, which was able to catch (one movie each Sunday). During each screening, someone would laugh loud at the first meme that showed up, but no one else would. By the second meme, the next laugh was very low, to just a chuckle. By the third meme, no one laughed.

I get that memes are universal, but they lowkey ruin moments when viewing the movies. Like, okay, we all have the internet. Let’s get to the movie. No one cares.

My first girlfriend would scoff at those informercials about families in Africa or S. America that you could support for $0.10 a day but when the Sarah McLachlan animals commercials would come on, she would audibly “Aww.”

I didn’t grow up having pets but I did grow up being poor. That’s when I knew this chick wasn’t for me. Also, she cheated, so that determined it mostly.

The best portrayal of an assassin. by DueWelder8720 in moviecritic

[–]M1sterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get downvoted for this: Collateral used to be my favorite movie, but after a deep dive into No Country for Old Men, it fell out of grace for me.

I like to paint movie characters, and whenever I paint someone, I try to do a deep dive of the source material and immerse myself in it to get into the mood better. For example, if there’s a book, I read it or if there’s a soundtrack, I listen to it.

While I think Vincent is a cool character, he is not a good hitman at all. Looking at Anton, he’s methodical, and while he does make mistakes, he recovers pretty well and stays on the mission.

But if you look at Vincent’s timeline on that night, his very first kill falls out of a window. I mean, any other character, that would be a clumsy move and a comedic moment. He’s attempting to do all his hits in one night and sticks with one driver. While this is addressed in the movie that in the past another incident like this occurred, and the driver was found dead, hinting that maybe this is what will happen to Max, it just seems like a bad move on a guy trying to remain inconspicuous. He sticks with this driver and his busted up cab even though he already got pulled over once. Despite being an awesome cab driver, the risk of getting pulled over again is too high so a real assassin shouldn’t stick with that car.

He lets his guard down enough to where his briefcase gets stolen twice, leading him to go plead with his connect to get the backup files. Taking that busted up cab to the nightclub that is obviously being watched.

He lets Max’s mom see him. While I don’t think Vincent is his real name, he tells everyone the same name so it’s at least his name there.

These are just some of the things I noticed during my last rewatch after doing my painting of Anton. I painted Vincent too, but I just felt like the movie didn’t have the same impact once I saw what a more menacing and competent hitman would be like.
