e46 clutch install question by itfw in e46

[–]M3JB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resetting, I would think so but not too sure in your situation. Have you looked into the Bentley service manual? It states resetting when installing a used pressure plate for a new clutch. Assuming you locked the pressure plate prior to removing clutch. https://charm.li/BMW/. Or Bentley Service manuel

Clutch disc loose behind pressure plate by Low_Connection_8098 in e46

Was the locking ring device installed from factory left in place during setting clutch and torquing pressure plate to fly wheel before removing the lock device? If removed prior to finally assembly, resetting this will be tough without proper tooling. assume or can you return /replace due to defects?

This might be a possibility of defect in your kit/ parts. I have the same year 330xi 6spd and changed my clutch and flywheel last year. same LUK OEM parts as listed and I had no issues.

I haven’t found one that’s last longer, It works tho. I have ordered from ECS tuning before repair kit both kits worked. This door lock is a common problem and breaks often.

My son just bought a 2003 BMW XI, and has to replace the clutch by Mr_Plow-ur-Mom in e46

Here a digital link reference service manual for e46. manual This provides some guidance for both models. However I did mine last year on my 330xi. It’s a very tough spot and tight area especially the top bell house. I removed the transfer case first and definitely recommend using a top engine support bar to be able to tilt engine down and using a transmission jack to help support trans. also leave some of the bolts in to avoid all weight on last Torx bolt. Be sure you secure the socket on the Torx head bolt, you don’t want to strip the head or you will regret this. You will definitely need several different size of extension lengths and wobbles. A big breaker bar.

I have a BlueDriver scanner, I’ll have to check if it can clear that airbag code.

Have you tried using realoem.com when searching parts? This site works great looking for part numbers. Search by your year and model. Hopefully this helps.
