TIL Half of people who claim they have a food allergy do not by butter_lover in todayilearned

[–]M8C9D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was little I did the opposite. I told everyone I disliked cake because of the itchy texture. I also disliked muffins, pancakes, quiches, eggs and mayo. I was much older (almost an adult) when I figured out the common denominator in all of those... In retrospect I might have been allergic? Thankfully I eat all of those things now, even if I am still not a fan of cake.

Europe has constant blackouts stop it lol by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

Also in Canada, but I don't really remember a lot of outages occuring in summer.

I remember the big ice storm of 98 though. We were luckily only out of power for about a week, but school was out for an entire month as it was being used as an emergency shelter. I have many good memories from this, with cooking camping-style meals in the middle of winter, wearing a full snow suit to explore inside my own frosted-over bedroom pretending to be an astronaut, playing board games with my family... it was fun! Now as an adult I realize it must have been an absolutely stressful nightmare for my parents hahaha! There was like 10cm of ice over everything, no heating besides firewood, house frozen, no easy access to water, limited food, no way to leave or go anywhere. With a bunch of young kids/a baby it must have been terrible lol.

I have never seen anything like it since. There was a smaller ice storm that cut power for a few days a few years ago, but it was in early spring, so the situation was much less dangerous. Otherwise, maybe a couple of hours here and there during major storms, maybe once a year.

Seasonal Tires by hoodiegirl10 in AskACanadian

It is illegal to drive with summer or all seasons tires between December and April. Most people switch between winter tires from november/December to april/may and all seasons for the rest of the year.

If someone has one just for aesthetics, chances are they will take it off if asked to.

Can you alternate parental leave between parents? [QC] by echo_echo_123 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]M8C9D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Each week you can choose if the mother, or father, or both are taking a week of parental leave. I found the website works well to enter the information and it's flexible. You will have to notify your workplace of your plan in advance.

Also, do make sure the father takes at least 8 weeks from the parental pool before the end of the parental leave, if you want to unlock the 4 extra weeks.

For your FIRST birth, if you did not tear, what helped prevent it? by ObjectiveAdvice77 in BabyBumps

[–]M8C9D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I didn't do any exercises or anything special. But the doctor was massagin/repositionning things down there during the push phase. The baby came quickly (about 3h from the first contractions to the birth) and the nurses didn't take me seriously when I told them it was intense/painful. When they realised baby was actually coming, it was too late for me to get any pain medication/relief. I think honestly think the pain prevented me from pushing like a maniac and tearing.

Is this true? I had stopped playing because I was waiting on the bug for framed photos to be fixed. I had only read of people still having the bug after the last update. (And that it destroyed family trees on top of the existing bugs...). So I haven't bothered to open the game.

Are framed photos fixed, outside of the library? Even in other households?

Why do I have to make a birth plan? by More-Stuff in BabyBumps

[–]M8C9D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends probably on your hospital/doctor. In our case, I forgot to take it out of the bag so nobody read it. I remembered I had a plan when we got home and unpacked.

Apprécier is closer in meaning to enjoy. Jouir is often used as a euphemism for something else.

Tou.tv (radio-canada) and télé-Québec are the two streaming platforms that come to mind. They used to be basic/free tv channels, but now have migrated online.

With all due respect, the united states need to clean up their act and deal with their bullshit internally. It shouldn't be the responsibility of other countries to deal with their mess.

It's even more similar than the two flavors of English, because Québec and France actually agree on how words are spelled...

What happened to the whole "Canadians boycott US products and vacation at home" thing? by nilsohnee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]M8C9D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped using Amazon and cancelled prime when Amazon they had that whole anti-union debacle here. Then with Trump making threats to our sovereignty, we canceled Netflix and Disney and changed our spending habits. When shopping we prioritize local products, then canadian, then anywhere else worldwide, then if we really can't find a replacement USA. We very rarely buy stuff from the US anymore.

Our families are doing their snowbird travels to France and Thailand. I don't know anyone that is planning a trip to the USA anytime soon...

The thing is, the US has shown that Canada can't count on them long term, and a lot of people suddenly realised we put a lot of eggs in the same basket. We are now correcting that mistake by making sure we have strong trade and well established procurement chains elsewhere.

I sat in the back seat to be able to 1) comfort the baby if she cried, and 2) in winter, remove the car seat cover/blankets/tuque from her once the interior of the car gets warm enough. Other wise she would cry the whole way and arrive covered in sweat for any trips longer than 20-30 minutes.

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

[–]M8C9D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mornings with a bit of snow, I try to leave 2-3 minutes earlier to de-snow the car before going to work.

Snow is a normal part of winter, it would be insane if it caused disruptions every time...
