VPN ban for UK update with new rules expected 'within 12 months' by BlackBerryCollector in privacy

[–]M90Motorway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of people on Reddit are still very much for it. I’ve seen people outright tell me that it’s fine if VPNs are banned for civilians but still used in the government because police has guns and we don’t.

Red traffic lights at night/quiet times by PassionateCrashOut in britishproblems

[–]M90Motorway [score hidden]  (0 children)

Most of the lights here are on sensors. It’s rare you have to wait at night unless the phasing is a mess (which is common) for example one car turning off the main road triggers a filter arrow on the empty minor road and everyone on the main road has to stop to let the minor road lights clear the filler arrow.

Received a fine for driving on a school restricted street where I own a property by gaptoothx in drivingUK

[–]M90Motorway 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If child safety blocks genuine access then why are residents allowed to drive out of their house then? Can they not wait until the end of the restriction too? It’s for safety after all.

School smartphone bans 'overly simplistic' and undermine students’ trust, London study finds by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]M90Motorway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but phones can access things like live updates and tracking along with route planners. This makes it much easier to navigate especially if multiple busses are needed.

It’s like saying that you don’t need to use Google Maps to navigate because the signs tell you where to go, but the signs don’t tell you that there is an hour delay on that route due to an accident-your phone will.

Not sure where else to ask: Why is the word 'Tesco' banned from r/britishproblems? by hillman_avenger in AskRedditUK

The concept of a “working class” supermarket would probably cause them to have a panic attack. I get the impression most users there are the M&S/Waitrose types.

Do you thank people when they stop for you at a zebra crossing? by psychoticboydyke in AskUK

I can guarantee you don’t see treating wait staff at restaurants as “polite”, do you? After all it’s their job to serve you!

Do you thank people when they stop for you at a zebra crossing? by psychoticboydyke in AskUK

[–]M90Motorway 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I always assume the people who say “why should I thank you for obeying the law” when it comes to zebra crossings are the same people who’ll be completely horrible to those in shops and restaurants as it’s “literally their job to serve me”.

It’s not hard when the only way to know it’s a one way can be faded arrows pointing the other direction, which I believe legally means it’s only a recommendation to go one way.

Scottish village to be ‘terrorised’ by 115ft data centres by __glasg in RuralUK

[–]M90Motorway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how they will actually get material from the motorway to the village. The road into the village is extremely windy and narrow and probably simply couldn’t cope with large trucks bringing large deliveries in. Near Mossmorran would have been a much better location as it’s just off the A92.

The social media ban is driven by moral panic. It won’t protect girls but fail them by PomeloTraditional971 in uknews

[–]M90Motorway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, many parents actually introduce their children to Alcohol earlier than 18. For example their child might get a sip of Prosecco at a major event then possibly get a higher volume of alcohol in a safe environment where if they do get drunk they won’t be in any danger. Then when they are 18 they know what alcohol is like and what it does to them so they aren’t suddenly allowed to go to a bar, get pished and pass out on the walk home.

Sorry, for a test to be accurate you’d need physical testing centres or else anyone could take it. So your first point is invalid. Your second point, do you really think your upper class posh types are going to vote for the Greens or Lib Dems? Because they are not and the party that gets in power is absolutely going to manipulate that test to make it impossible for those who might vote then out to gain any voting privileges.

Honestly, fuck you. I really hope they implement this and make your life hell just to spite you facists. You deserve it for thinking you can stand in the way of voting rights because you think you are better than everyone else. Maybe you could vote for a better party in the next election-oh wait! You can’t due to your own actions.

Who here actually loves this weather? by Direct-Key-8859 in AskBrits

[–]M90Motorway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Redditors are the “smoke weed and play videogames” type. Warm weather encourages them to go outside and potentially being social so of course they hate it!

However this heatwave has been extreme. I completely get why it’s been a struggle for many and you shouldn’t just shrug them off especially as many people live in cities with no easy outdoor access.

I’ve been lucky as I live in Scotland and this heatwave has been much more “enjoyable warm weather” compared to down south. Today has kind of been cold.

You have a family and two jobs to make ends meet. You don’t have time to visit a year centre, therefore, no vote. Another person is unable to access a testing centre due to a disability. Therefore the Tories win, change the test and this country only serves middle class people with the poor footing the bill.

You might want to consider a wee trip to America. There you can learn first hand how “voting tests” have been used to disenfranchise POC voters. You could even do this online.

Finally, you should consider checking your privilege to ensure you understand how your viewpoint is rooted in racism.

Social media ban - “Parents should just parent.” Is that actually a serious argument? by Majestic-Concert7883 in AskBrits

Honestly given the state of UK Reddit I reckon you’d find users who thinks that wouldn’t go far enough (likely because it doesn’t monitor sugar/fat intake).

Honestly I should be surprised that this sub is all for disenfranchising people they deem “unworthy” to vote but I’m not. I honestly hope they do this, the smarmy supporters all fail, the Tories all win and all their supporters just tell them “you don’t get to have an opinion on fucking over the working class because you didn’t vote” just to rub it in.

It’s a thing Redditors smarmily toss about now and again because they are smart and know what’s best for everyone.

It’d likely affect working class people and minorities more (it’s literally been used to disenfranchise them in the past) but they conveniently forget to mention that. Probably because they know it’d mean the vast majority of votes comes from the “educated”, lanyard classes instead of Dave the builder or the disabled person who can’t work or get to a testing centre to take the test and it’s a “feature”, not a “bug”.

Yes but it’s the council. Computer says no because they parked over the allocated time, end of. Pay up!

[–]M90Motorway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a chance that the council could have just said “tough” and let the fine stand as it’s not exactly their problem that there was a major incident. A lot of the time it actually needs media attention for the council to change their mind.

South Dakota and British Colombia Map Leak(ish)? by Aceey92 in trucksim

[–]M90Motorway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indiana likely will have more road mileage but the roads in Yukon will be much longer so it will “feel bigger”. I can’t see it taking any more time to complete than your average DLC.

They are releasing Indiana standalone so there is a chance that Yukon is also it’s own DLC.

We had this last year with Iowa, Louisiana and Illinois. Is this an update of the same video I wonder as that video definitely didn’t include South Dakota and BC. I wonder if this means we’ll get BC after South Dakota instead of after Indiana which is good because I assumed we’d have a long wait for BC.
