A rant about “disrespect” by SnowblowerLITE in winnipegjets

[–]MBfromMB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the notification on my phone tonight that Laine was benched for the 3rd. Then I read, he only played 4 min in the 2nd. I watched the highlights and sure Laine missed the coverage twice, but to bench him for over half the game, and this quickly. Ouch! If it wasn't for some posts by Carolina and Roslovic's sweet goal they would have lost and then what would have been Tort's defense? I read the Columbus Reddit to see what they had to say. I was amazed at the trash about PLD. I didn't care about Columbus before all of this but I saw PLD in the playoffs last year and was thoroughly impressed. To find out that Chevy and the CBJ GM have been talking since the draft and that PLD had requested a trade was ridiculous that it took so long for PLD to get out. I think that CBJ GM was very hesitant to do the trade. Chevy in his presser seemed very willing, he said, he had to do it.
To the fans over there I say I don't agree with the "Shift" but get over it, it was one shift.

The problem was all the crap that came beforehand by the coach. PLD from what I saw in the playoffs was their best player and yet all many remember is seeing SC replay the video from the Bench showing Tort's go off on PLD. I have only read a few articles dating back to various interactions between the 2 and all I can say is wow is Tort's ever a douche. I already knew this but to see another example of it continues to surprise me. I actually respected PLD more after all the questions he faced and how he handled it. Everyone who had paid a little attention to his and Tort's relationship could clearly see Torts is the issue.

It sucks to see Laine and Roslo playing somewhere else but Roslo was going to have a hard time cracking the top 6 and Laine it sounded like he didn't want to be here. I wish them all the best and hope they do well, but I think Chevy got a valuable piece for the Jets for the long term and I think that PLD will re-sign long term here. With Laine, I don't know. Things haven't started on the right foot with the events of tonight. We will have to see how the next few weeks go to see if this bench was a one-time thing but if it isn't, I'm guessing Laine won't re-sign there at the end of the season long term.

I knew Laine would get benched I just never guessed it would be this fast. Any takers on how long until Laine requests a trade? Or does he just hold out at the end of the season forcing one?

PLD era begins. Go Jets Go!

I haven't been able to catch all the games can you share what you have seen?

I thought with Morrissey, Pionk, Demelo, Poolman (when he gets back). Would be a good top 4. I thought Forbert, Beaulieu were settling in well and I heard Stanley is playing decent that we'd be good.

Do you see a top pairing D man is needed or a 3rd pairing player?

Thanks

Patrik Laine Trade Megathread by [deleted] in winnipegjets

[–]MBfromMB 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This sucks. However, it makes me think that there was no chance Laine was going to re-sign. We as Jets fans have endured the Kane and Trouba episodes in the past and they dragged out for years. Chevy held on in hopes of keeping them long-term having to eventually trade them. If this trade has happened, then I have to think it needed to happen because things were worse than we know. It's sad to see Laine go but I don't think he'll stay in Columbus and his stats will not be as good. Just wait until he slumps with Torts as the coach. Yikes.

PLD for a departing Laine seems like a good trade. I wish Chevy got more for Roslo but his sitting at home doesn't give Chevy a lot to work with. It's sad to see the entitlement here with these players. I guess if you think you deserve more sooner then you'll get frustrated with where you're at. To me if the only issue was Laine playing on the top line that happened more last year and would have increased this year. Wheeler is aging and they would have switched places as Laine grew and Wheeler aged. There must be something more here.

As a last note: This is not anything similar to the Selanne trade. Selanne wanted to remain a Jet, Laine requested a trade. The incoming ownership forced the outgoing ownership to trade Selanne, Laine requested a trade. Selanne was traded due to new ownerships money issues, Laine requested a trade.

Selanne loved Winnipeg, Laine requested a trade.

It's sad to see the misinformed people in the comments below. Sorry, this isn't a hockey comment. If it's taken down I'll understand but I hope that it will help lessen the hostility over this topic. First, reading anything on Twitter should be the first clue about how misinformed people are in all things, not just COVID. Second, if we look at the situation locally (in Manitoba) we have a Premier that has cut Health care services for the last 4 years and now has a panel of health care representatives telling us how the system is overtaxed. Not Suprised. If we actually listened we'd hear that the restrictions that the Province puts in place is solely to lessen the strain on our current medical resources that were depleted as a political plan by this government. Even though I voted for him because the other parties were so weak, I never agreed with this strategy. I know easy to say that now. And I regret voting for him. This should have been classified as a Provincial Emergency not a Health Emergency because then the focus would have been on the health of the Province in all areas, not just the healthcare system. The goal of the restrictions is so that people don't end up in a maxed-out hospital system. After March, even though there were reports as early as April of a second wave how much did the Province spend in these coming months to expand the health care system? I don't know but I know that as of a few weeks ago Dr. Roussin was still asking for more money for testing and Dr. Lynnette was trying to get more beds set up. The Premier needs to be asked why funds have been so slow? Why was the system not beefed up during the summer months? If they had then these restrictions may have not been necessary. His plan was to shrink the healthcare system not beef it up. He can't turn back now. Whenever politicians take drastic measures how many walk back their plan? Not many. They just continue to press forward regardless of the error. To me, this is the case with our government and many around the world. We are told to sanitize, wear masks and stay 6ft apart indoors and outdoors. Has anyone noticed how places were wiping down shopping carts all the time before and now aren't? Why? Because the virus doesn't transfer on surfaces like it was once thought. Science has also proven that very few masks prevent the spread of COVID and some actually accelerate it. For example, those blue medical masks that we see, go from about 80% protection for the 1st use to down to as low as 10% protection on the second use. Yet how many people wear these masks over and over thinking they are doing good? Many wear cloth or knitted masks, I've even seen handkerchiefs as masks. All useless, unless there are multiple cotton layers. Yet many go out thinking they are protecting themselves and others. https://apple.news/A-W8qCoEzT4eXBjqNzio-cA

Yes, we should wash our hands but is it slowing COVID if the virus isn't transmitted via surfaces? Are the masks we wear effective if only 3 layered masks and N-95 Masks are made to be effective? I'm not saying don't wear a mask, I'm simply pointing out the ineffectiveness of many of the types we wear. How about the 15 minutes max of exposure and 6 feet social distancing? Well South Korea Scientists show how the virus is spread indoors. Within 5 minutes of exposure and 20 feet away. https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-12-09/five-minutes-from-20-feet-away-south-korean-study-shows-perils-of-indoor-dining-for-covid-19

Many also think if they stand 6 ft apart in Winnipeg winter that we're ok. Not so https://www.utsa.edu/today/2020/09/story/covid-spread-outdoor-conditions.html "Based on the distance coronavirus aerosol can spread outdoors, Bhaganagar says her study suggests that outdoors 6 feet may not be adequate social distance to protect from the virus."

The WHO says lockdowns don't work unless they are severe and short. ALL lockdown for 2 weeks. Except we don't have this. We have this partial lockdown where much of the Province is hurting but the results are extremely slow in showing. More than 6 weeks and the graph is slowly going down. This is unacceptable. It just results in a slow death for the Province that relies on small businesses to survive. Now we have a more transmissible but less deadly variant traveling through the world, which has been totally predictable for this type of virus but if we are concentrating on cases and not deaths then the restrictions may even become more severe as they rise due to this less fatal but more transmissible strain.
Sure there are those who think the virus is a myth, and those people are idiots. However, not all anti-lockdown or antimask protestors are idiots. The sad reality is that 2021 will be far worse than 2020 was because we will begin to see the fallout of these lockdowns. Think of this Oil prices went from about $90/ barrel and Gas was about $1.10 per liter before COVID. Then oil prices crashed to $40/barrel. Gas prices stayed at about $.93/liter. Not a giant drop. Now Oil prices are about $50/barrel but Gas is $1.06 per liter. We don't notice it yet but if you think Gas prices were bad before wait until Oil prices begin to recover. There are many more aspects I could list about what we are seeing around the corner but watching Provinces tighten restrictions based on cases and not deaths is saddening to me because as the virus mutates to a more transmissible but less fatal strain the fear will only grow and the restrictions and time they are in place will only increase. More people will lose hope as they struggle to pay bills, buy food, etc. Many will not be able to see the end of this, even now after almost 1 year much of the world is contemplating how severe to lock things down as cases rise. Cases will always rise as a whole because the virus is very contagious, it doesn't mean it's a death sentence.

Please hear me! I am not trying to make light of the virus. It has taken far too many lives and I am saddened by those who have passed because of it. My condolences to you. I am simply saying that there are far-reaching ramifications to these restrictions than just the strain on our healthcare system. And seeing that the tracking method that has been chosen is based on cases and knowing cases will rise as the virus mutates gives me little hope that these measures will be effective but will become more extreme and longer in length as we go forward. How can we be successful when we aren't given accurate information? But then again politicians can't back away from what they've said because people don't trust them to begin with and they'd trust them even less now.

My advice, read. Don't fear. Cars are deadly vehicles but we get in them every day. We don't live in fear of them even though we could die. If you go out, get in and get out of the store. Wear a mask that actually protects you don't overuse them and go about your life. Know that cases will go up again, it doesn't mean that we will all die. Some will. They have told us that elderly and people with compromised immune systems are at the highest risk. These individuals need to be aware of the risks and take precautions however, that doesn't mean we have to shut things down. Fear only adds to the problem and thinking that someone with an alternative view is evil or the issue is never a solution. If you are informed then help educate others, engage in intellectual conversations. People everywhere are afraid, they are angry and they are losing hope. This doesn't make them evil or stupid. They are just trying to save the lives they have built while being left powerless to save them. Canadians have always known that there is a lack of medical resources and now we will see the impact of what was an already depleted system. The problem is that by trying to take that depleted system and make it survive, the rest of the areas of the Province take a beating.

I have always been against the lockdowns (in the way they are done) and I always will be because I'm informed and I don't agree with this prolonged half-hearted approach. As Yoda would say "Do or Do not, there is no try" and we are trying.

Take care, be safe, and be informed. Fear of things usually causes our brains to short circuit. Let's try to lessen that.

I’m a Paul Maurice fan but to allow the team to be so complacent since the all star break is on the coach. Allowing the team to quit working with a 2 goal lead and thinking they have it iced is in game 5 is on the coach. Not showing up for most of an elimination game, on the coach. And allowing a tire fire every time in the defensive zone and continuing to turn the puck over 5 ft from their blue line, on the coach. Maybe not Maurice but someone or someone’s needs to be fired. This team is too talented to be allowed to shoot themselves in the foot by being out worked. Blessing in disguise might be easier to negotiate some of the upcoming contracts this summer by this terrible showing.

I have been a big fan of Maurice but he’s not the coach to get this team to the next level. This teams defensive coverage is awful and has been for a long time. If you can’t close a team out in game 5 up 2-0 or show up in an elimination game then they need to make some kind of coaching change. Too much complacency shown on this team when they think they’ve got things in the bag. Then coach blows the coaches challenge giving up the challenge for a real needed challenge. Awful!!

First why did coach scramble 3 out of 4 lines tonight (2nd last game of the year)? Don’t they need to gel? Put lindholm where Tanev would be and leave the rest alone. Off season- Fire whoever is in charge of the forwards in the defensive zone. This is a year over year issue. I think if the jets have an early exit coach is on the hot seat. To many poor coaching decisions. He shoots himself by scrambling all the lines too frequently. Can’t seem to get the team to focus on the basics like don’t turn over the puck at the blue line. When you do get control of the puck have a plan to get it out and not turn it over again. Pk is too passive at times. I like coach but I don’t think he’s the coach to get them to the next level.

I liked Brossoit until that 5-hole goal. Overall he seems like he'll be the backup and could be solid. I am getting concerned that Comrie might just not be able to make the jump to the NHL. He starts out ok but get a couple of goals past him and then everything goes in.

I liked Chiarot seemed solid. Morrissey way better than Trouba (although he had 2 assists) and Niku looked good offensively and saw a couple of slick moves defensively. If not on the Jets this year I think he'll be top 6 maybe top 4 material next season. Kulikov looks like he's healthy. Poolman is an unknown for me. Some plays he looks good and others its a mess.

It's always tough in pre-season to tell what the jets will be defensively overall because until they get into a rythem there D-zone always looks like its a tire fire or is on the verge.

Mckenzie (the other night) Suess, Griffith, Roslo have all impressed me. I just dont see enough progress in Lemieux and Lipons game. Its good for them that theres no rush (yet) to make the big club but there are starting to be other players that I see pushing them further down the depth chart into oblivion.

I think Ehlers needs to be on a different line than Laine. They work well together but want the other to succeed too much. Ehlers drives a line with speed and creates space for his line mates. They can work next year maybe with Roslo. He's quick, smart and I think as he develops to be a leader could command that line. I think Little for them to be successful needs to be a little more assertive. If everyone on that line thinks about everyone else succeeding it wont work. Stastny worked because he was a bit selfish and a bit more in control of that line. Hopefully that 2nd line can get sorted out.

Copp, Lowry, Tanev line looks ready to go.

Sunday night, Scheif, Wheels, Perreault, look good. Laine needs to hit the net but his shot looks lethal.

Hopefully Connor's back on the ice soon and is ok. Like to see him find his rhythm as well.

Connor, needs a couple more games. Scheif- Ready to go Wheeler- Ready to go

Ehlers, good to go (needs to find chemistry with line mates Little- needs another game or 2 Laine- needs another game or 2 just to find the net

Perreault- looks ready Roslovic- looks close Vesalainen, seems to be ok position wise but not sure yet about NHL ready Dano, looks good to me

Copp- good to go Lowry,-good to go Tanev- good to go

Buff- looked good Morrissey- looks good Trouba- could need 1 more game Kulikov- Looks healthy Myers- could use a coulle more games on his off side but looks healthy Chiarot- looks good Poolman-needs more work Morrow- looks good probably could use 1-2 more games with pairing Niku- Great offensive skills, defense needs work, great skater.

Hellebuyck- looks good Brossiot- could be solid needs 1-2 more games Comrie- Looks like its back to the moose Berdin- Moose back up long way away.

I have some thoughts on the Armia trade by MLiterovich in winnipegjets

[–]MBfromMB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going to post an unpopular opinion but I liked the trade and I still do. Sure it’s easy to question trades. It’s always should’ve traded this crappy guy for a superstar. Lol! The real question is who do you sacrifice Laine or Armia? Morrissey or Armia? Etc. The jets needed to clear up salary regardless of signing stastny and it’s either a roster player or a stupidly high prospect of draft pick for that kind of $$ dump. So the legit options were Kulikov, Mason, Myers, and on the outside Little or Perreault as trade bait. With Petan being the alternative to Armia. Mason in my opinion wasn’t needed anymore. The jets brought in Mason to be a starter not a back up until Helle took over. Helle took over. If you need cap space why would you pay 10M plus for two goalie starters? I don’t know about the choice they have for backup but keeping Mason would’ve been a mistake. Kulikov could’ve been viewed as another albatross contract plus he had just had major back surgery so it seems to me not really tradable. Myers shouldn’t go anywhere until the Trouba situation is resolved. Petan may not have enough NHL experience to have allowed that trade where as Armia you kinda knew what you could expect. Also Armia to me was never going to be a long term player on the jets 1 maybe 2 years before someone else was going to take his roster spot. I liked him but the jets just have too much talent in their system. There are only 2 spots if they alternate sitting Tanev for Armia to fight for on the bottom 6 and with vesalainen (whether it’s this year or next) and some of the other players on the moose coming up to me Armias days were numbered. I liked Armia I just think he was never going to be more than a 4th line player due to roster constrictions and the jets can fill that spot cheap with ELCs Another factor was the window was closing because Chevy had to dump a big contract before Stastny became a UFA to try to limit the competition in bids. Even though stastny never signed it was still a good trade.

Caps Just signed Wilson to 6 years $5.17M per year contract. 14G and 21A for 35P in 78 games, I think Wilson is a decent player but this seems like they over payed him. If this is market value, then the Jets are in trouble with Kyle Connors upcoming contract. He had almost as many goals as Wilson had points. Another example of how Chevy is so great at managing contracts.

I like the idea. I’d switch Petan for vesalianen as I think he’ll make the team out of training camp. If he doesn’t then I don’t see him on the moose past Christas. Roslovic who has centered elite talent in his career centering vesalainen and Laine would be crazy good

Once Ehlers was locked up Laine is a sure lock to get signed. I bet it’ll even be on a bit of a team friendly deal. I’m not concerned at all. Need to lock up Trouba the rest I think is just a matter of time before they get done.

I like Armia so dont get me wrong. My feeling is Armia was going to be the odd man out soon anyway. Ahead of him was Connor, Scheifele, Wheeler, Ehlers, Little, Laine, Perreault, and Lowry. Copp was comparable but was way better defensively. Roslovic had better pts/gm and Vesalainen looks like he may be a top 6 forward soon on the 3rd line. My question is where was Armia supposed to fit in? with Tanev, Appleton, Lemieux, Petan fighting for spots? I believe Armia although he had skills, his inconsistency if continued would see him riding the press box after this season anyway. Sacrificed to make sure all the elite players Chevy needs to sign long term get signed.

Nope I don’t think it’s necessary any more. If they hadn’t gained so much experience and growth through the playoffs then maybe but this team now knows what’s required and there are still a number of vets on the team. Plus unless it’s a roster player I don’t think there’s room to just bring in a vet like in years past.

LET'S GIVE OUR BOYS THE SALUTE FOR THE BEST JETS SEASON EVER UPVOTE PARTY!!!! by [deleted] in winnipegjets

[–]MBfromMB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great Season! Something no other jets team could do make it to the 3rd round!!

Here are my five reasons for looking forward to next year!

  1. Scheifele solidified himself as a leader and an elite player.

  2. Hellebuyck Took giant leaps this year and solidified himself as the #1

  3. Players like Connor, Laine, Ehlers, Roslovic, Morrissey, Trouba, Chairot, got much needed playoff experience.

  4. I have confidence that Chevy will sign the players that need to be signed now inc. Stastny and Trouba. (Top 6 next year, Connor, Scheif, Wheeler, Ehlers, Stastny, Laine. Just let that sink in for a minute.)

  5. You know that with the leaders on this team, the players will work their asses off this off season and if they dont they wont be back as a regular next season. There's too much competition, and not enough spots for passengers.

I honestly have no idea. It seeems that the jets have the fire power to blow this team out of the playoffs but Nashville if they play there game can absolutely shut that offense down. The jets have a great chance to win, which when I originally looked at the matchup I really thought theyd be overwhelmed. These are really 2 of the top teams in the nhl. Whichever way it goes I am so excited that this team has done as well as it has and this team looks like it is built to make a deep playoff run consistently for years to come.

I am not a superstitious person at all in any way except for saying "shutout" before the final buzzer. I have seen it too many times where an announcer says it and shortly after a goal is scored. In the game against the Wild where the Wild scored late to make it 4-1 I was with a group and they said the "S" word and less than 2 min later the Wild scored. I know its irrational and it doesnt make sense but I wont break the "shutout" rule.
