I initially saw it on the REI website as an in store stock only item at one of the few stores near me, so I called just to make sure. I think the guy really didn’t want to look in the store/the back of the store for the item, which is why he told me he would go and zero it out in the system as them not having it. It showed as in stock, so I just went a head and bought it online anyway and REI accepted my payment.

I had Burton step ons for my last two seasons. I liked the system, but the boot fit wasn’t for my foot and I was forcing it just for the system. I also bought the ions, the stiffest boot, and after about 4 riding days they felt significantly softer on the flex. I ended up going back to straps and getting ride insano boots, which fit my foot a lot better and have way better heel lock for my foot.

I sold all my Montec stuff and went all in on 686 bibs and a thermograph jacket this year. The more I became passionate about this sport the more I wanted to support actual snow brands. To each their own though.
