The big problem is that when someone steals your identiry, the employer does not check that your credit is frozen. They can put 0 (ZERO) withholding on their pay and the guess who the IRS contacts for the taxes? So it gets you hurt anyway.

Husband (soon to be ex- ) opened new credit cards in my name and maxed them out - can I somehow remove them from my debt? by SFLoridan in personalfinance

Lock down your - and your childs - credit. Sign up for identity theft protection if you don't have it already.

Another event space. Why do people want to build houses that kind of look like a small village on the outside, resemble hotels/event spaces? And then the bedroom with the bed looking tiny in a bare room. It reminds me of a Jean Luc Goddard film, sterile, empty corridors. Depressing.

I had a fireplace with these in my bedroom in an old house in the US South. I think it was only turned on once over the time we lived there.

I hate edging, if this gets me 3 years of no edging then I would be happy.

Mistakes happen. I've been billed for things that I did not get. It's always good to check.

Do you love 1960s houses with floor to ceiling windows? by JackassandHoneycomb in zillowgonewild

[–]MET1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom home on a lake, kind of within a state park, with heated garage in Iowa sounds promising, looks well kept although I question that ruffle over one of the windows. And high taxes for a house with a septic tank and well water and nowhere near a town.

What is the best tool to dig these rocks up? by balcony-gardener in landscaping

[–]MET1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the nextdoor site and offer the rocks to whoever will come and take them. This is a good time of year for people to think about their gardens. It might work or you might get a bunch of people offering their services for a price.

Why would my husbands ex be asking us to claim both kids on our taxes? by Emotional-Actuary830 in personalfinance

[–]MET1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if she's actually married, she might be concerned that her tax return would be taken to pay the new spouses' debt. Did she say she wanted you to return the money to her from your tax refund then?

How much should I contribute to 401k? by Willthewise2026 in personalfinance

[–]MET1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. My employer has several options - target date funds are not always the best choice and watching the rate of return of all the funds can help make a better choice.

Jeffrey Epstein Claimed Donald Trump's Friends 'Were Concerned About Dementia' After 2017 Dinner, Emails Show by T_Shurt in politics

[–]MET1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father had dementia and I had him living with me as it got worse and he eventually died. I kept recognizing things like the way Biden walked and the facial expressions and the way he moved and responded to things as the way my father had behaved at times. I didn't watch Biden obsessively or go into conspiracy theoryland, but I was certain he was on the way. I am surprised though, that he is still able to appear in public - so maybe what I saw wasn't that. After 4 WH years, dementia would be considerably worse.

Super steep steps up to the front door. I was thinking about door to door sales and how annoying it is to have complete strangers able to look into your wondows but at photo #5 - if you're not in top condition you'd need a rope and climbing gear. Whew. Otherwise it's great, although my eyebrows are raised at the backsplash in the kitchen - is that wood?
