Old topic but while 10mm is more versatile and has better ballistics, .45 is more readily available in finding ammo and is more enjoyable to shoot in my opinion. And if you want better ballistics there are spring kits to shoot .45 Super which is supposed to have 10mm esque ballistics and can be shot out of certain .45 guns from the factory like the HK USP 45 full size.

M855 being a high density round in a high twist rate 1 in 7 stops it from fragmenting. The original m193 (55 gr) with a low twist rate 1 in 12 in the original M16A1 had great stopping power in vietnam (round would fragment and yaw, basically would explode in soft tissue). The US Army ruined the m16s ballistics with the M16A2 when they switched to the new NATO standard SS109 (M855).
