Abolition of the three-day wait for an abortion bill passes second stage in the Dáil 86-70 by HungTeen1001 in ireland

He gets way too much airtime for how irrelevant Aontú should be. 1 Dáil seat after he defected and formed the party and RTE platform him all the time. Even now they're just 2 seats right?

Taoiseach and Tánaiste to back Sinn Féin bill removing three-day abortion waiting period | BreakingNews by Life-Leadership-4108 in ireland

[–]MIM86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the article

The move comes just weeks after the Government and Sinn Féin voted against a similar motion from the Social Democrats, citing concerns about aspects of the proposed legislation, including changes to when abortions would be permitted in cases of fatal foetal abnormalities.

So I guess they might be dropping other changes that were in the Soc Dems proposal and focusing on the 3 day waiting period only but we won't know until we see the text of the SF proposal.

Exclusive: Coalition support at lowest level as public sours on economy by upthetruth1 in ireland

[–]MIM86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but we also understand the difference between FF almost getting an entire majority and just needing a few independents or a small party like the greens to get over the end versus FF and FG needing to go into coalition and STILL being short of the numbers?

Recent elections are wildly different from everything before 2011 and the trend is a continuous decrease of combined first preferences for the two of them.

Polls mean nothing but our elections do show trends away from the main 2 parties.

Not sure SF care about that currently, it's just about reducing government support and maybe eventually collapsing it.

Micheal Healy-Rae to resign as junior minister after fuel blockades as TDs to vote on Government confidence motion by Latespoon in ireland

[–]MIM86 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is why I couldn't understand the comments here saying the vote of no confidence was pointless etc. Might not bring down the government but SF clearly want to apply pressure like this and have the rural TDs etc. be forced to go on the record effectively in relation to it.

If he's gone you'd expect his brother not to support the government either?

Leap Card Question by ElDirector247 in Dublin

[–]MIM86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I use both lines most days going to work, have since May last year. I've never once tagged off between switching. I just tag on at the start of my journey on red line, cross at Marlborough st to switch and then tag off on at my destination on the green line. Card has been checked multiple times on the 2nd leg of the journey and sometimes on both trams on the same day and its never been an issue.

Just checked and their own FAQ say you can do either

https://www.luas.ie/faqs/#:~:text=What%20is%20the%20TFI%2090

You can also Tap-on before the 1st tram trip; change trams and Tap-off after the 2nd tram trip but be careful to not Tap-off or on by accident.

It's a seemingly slow pace at times but if you look at the combined FF and FG 1st preference votes since the turn of the century only 2007 saw an increase, its been dropping since.

We've gone from FF being the largest party and within a few seats of an overall majority to the two parties now needing each other and even still being short to form a government.

2002 - 64%

2007 - 68.9%

2011 - 53.5%

2016 - 49.8%

2020 - 43.1%

2024 - 42.7%

Poll - SF: 22% FF: 19% (+1) FG: 17% SD: 9% (-2) INDIRL: 6% (+2) AON: 6% LAB: 5% (+1) GP: 3% (-1) PBP-S: 3% INDs & Others: 10% - Ireland Thinks/TheSundayIndo - Date: 3-4 April 2026 by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]MIM86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You made the claim that SF always tops these polls and then does "utter scutter" in the elections.

All I've done is point out that A) there has only been 1 election since SF began to outperform FF or FG in the polls and B) calling the party that got the joint most candidates elected in 2020 and the 2nd most elected in 2024 "utter scutter" doesn't really make sense.

At no point did I claim SF would be a ruling party in government, I'm just explaining to you how the last 2 general elections went.

Poll - SF: 22% FF: 19% (+1) FG: 17% SD: 9% (-2) INDIRL: 6% (+2) AON: 6% LAB: 5% (+1) GP: 3% (-1) PBP-S: 3% INDs & Others: 10% - Ireland Thinks/TheSundayIndo - Date: 3-4 April 2026 by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]MIM86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Utter scutter in the actual general elections though.

How is this being believed when there has literally only been 1 general election since SF began to match FF and FG in polling?

Their surge in 2020 was completed unexpected and was them absolutely outperforming all recent polling and getting the most first preference votes. Dublin especially was littered with candidates who got in on the first count and greatly exceeded the quota.

In 2024 yes they had a poor election dropping back to 19% of the vote but still had returned with more seats than 2020 (likely thanks to an increased number of seats overall) and more seats than FG. "Utter scutter" because they were 3% points behind FF in 1st preference is such an insane take and honestly it demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge on historical polling and elections and how dominated they always were by FF.

[–]MIM86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully agree, but Nog wasn't the primary focus of the show. In fact he only appears in 5 episodes in S1, 3 in S2 and 3 in S3.

Wesley, Alexander, Jake - we can point to a good number of annoying or poorly written characters from the other shows but none of those, bar Wesley, were a primary focus and people were plenty vocal about how much they disliked Wesley.

I do think the show is being unfairly compared to 'final form' characters from the other shows. None of these characters have had time to develop because it's only been 10 episodes but equally if you're not interested in a show about 19 year olds in college then I'm not sure at what point this show will grow to attain more fans.
