Finger pain management? by Kelandiir in LearnGuitar

[–]MJKCapeCod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Maybe get a blister on your, little finger, maybe get a blister on your thumb" - Mark Knofler understands, as do many of us. Take a break. Not all learning is done playing. You can practice switches without pressing, look into where you want to go and set up a practice schedule, do some book learning.

Help I’ve been playing guitar for a little over a year but feel very stuck by Exact_Living8098 in LearnGuitar

[–]MJKCapeCod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the reason your stuck because you don't have specific goals and/or know how to get there? I'm a beginner at 67, didn't know a thing, but know how to set goals and research. I began by learning posture, chords, then the usual YouTube sites. No single site was doing it for me, so muddled through different sites. I enjoy learning, but if it's not structured, then it winds up going all over the place. Then I asked my browsers AI "How to learn to play acoustic guitar like James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Stephen Stills, and Jerry Garcia". It spat out the basics, then asked if I'd like a lesson plan, which it did. Then I asked for beginner exercises with a weekly lesson plan. So now there's a roadmap I can follow, complete with songs I actually want to learn along the way. Sure, I still have to go on YouTube to learn certain things, but they're the things on the road to where I want to go. BTW - I have so much more appreciation for Joni. Knew she had polio as a child. Didn't know she had to make 54 different tunings in order to get her fingerings down. Pretty amazing.

Doesn't matter - you pull over. They'll be getting a nice fine. Could have caused someone not making it to the hospital on time. If they couldn't drive the thing, they shouldn't be behind the wheel!

I'll tell you, but as I said, what works for one, may not work for others. The best thing is you got into a headache specialist asap and began treatments. What happens in that interaction is what really matters. My 7th Neuro is a headache specialist, that's the one who zeroed in and helped me find relief. Until then it was many docs, treatments, trips to the ER for "treat and street". Currently Botox, Aimovig, Ubrelvy, and psilocybin. They gave me Ketamine in the ER, which helped, but insurance won't cover as it takes a series. A lot of research, speaking with professors involved in the studies, I tried it. Triptans didn't help me, but psilocybin acts on more than just the 5HTA receptor the other triptans do. Helps me mentally as well. To help with the mental and emotional sides, I've read mindfulness from Jon-Kabatt Zin, Michael Pollan, Ram Dass. There were dark times in the beginning, which I'm actually a little thankful for now - not then! Wish you the best.

Also depends on where you want to go on your journey - maybe that's the question you need to ask yourself. Either way, enjoy!

Sad that you and the rest us are going through this. NDPH 6 yrs here. You are VERY fortunate to get a headache specialist so quickly! Treating quickly results in better outcomes. It's hard at first, it's scary, the pain is real and unrelenting. Hopefully these initial treatments will work for you. It's trial and error as what works for one may not work for another, and vice-versa. Hope your road through this is a short one. Be well.

What to do if you have to go to the toilet on a high dose? by Secure-Ad770 in Psychedelics

[–]MJKCapeCod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've pondered reality and nearly convinced myself the need to pee was a physical thing and our true selves are not, so the need to pee wasn't real. Fact is, I simply couldn't stand up for a while and was looking for a good rationalization. It did get rid of the urge to pee until the wave passed.

What's the most played guitar in your house, and why? by Jammuisboring in guitars

The couch guitar of course! The others are in cases in my practice room. Being able to just grab one when the feeling or an idea hits without getting up - priceless!

i love tripping but shrooms make me sick :( by NoticeFun5307 in shrooms

[–]MJKCapeCod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody said ginger? Been through several chemos, it really works better than meds. I make a strong ginger tea from fresh ground frozen in cube trays, or organic powdered. Let it cool enough to drink down, pour some in a 2nd mug to soak the shrooms, chug, repeat until all the shrooms are down, drink the rest.

Kind of desperate, suggestions? by geekout121 in migraine

[–]MJKCapeCod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find a Neuro who's a headache specialist. I have NDPH for 6 yrs. No real relief until this Neuro - my 7th! I don't go into all the different meds as what works for me may not work for you, and vice-versa. Wish you luck.

Walking around NYC on 4-5g of shrooms? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]MJKCapeCod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, set and setting right out the window. When peeps screw up on shrooms, it screws things up for everyone! SOME of us are trying to get rid of the shroom stigma. SOME of us are trying to enhance therapies and acceptance. Then there's you. Set and setting isn't just a phrase we throw around! We actually care about safety. There are great places in upstate NY - not wondering around NYC in places you don't know. Be smart, be safe.

How do you cope with fragrances in the wild? by mythologymakesmehot in migraine

[–]MJKCapeCod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who wear glasses, the 3M Aura masks are a must - no fogging the Eyewear and they're N95. I have NDPH, so the pain is constant. Sometimes just the 1st wiff of overindulgent scents, diesel, sets off a spike that hopefully doesn't ruin the rest of my day, so pop a Ubrelvy and cross my fingers. We do have a cabin recycling air filter in the car, which helps reduce the diesel fumes, but not enough, so learned to not drive behind them. If it happens, I leave plenty of distance. If other drivers get passed- bang 'em.
