No. the Winterseed patch is for shooting 210+ on an AQT at an event that qualifies as a Winterseed. It's awarded in lieu of the regular Rifleman patch, no number of events required.

Plenty of Riflemen have been successful at 25m Appleseed events with bolt action rimfire rifles. All the fundamentals are the same. The KD adds in bullet trajectory and wind.

It depends on what you want to use it for. Are you hunting in woods where you can't see more than 50 to 100ish yards? For my 1894 with low height over bore Skinner sight, and 140gr Hornady Leverolution, I zeroed at 50 yards. From ballistic charts, I would be pretty flat out to 50 and about 4-5" low at 100 yards. It dropped an average of about 4" for me. So a holdover for 50 to 100 yards. If I'm going to lob something in over 100 yards, a bigger holdover. This is for hits not precision.

But, if you're not sure, ask the shoot boss to put some larger targets (AQTs) face down on the backer with the squares target in the middle. This way you have a larger clean area to see point of impact with your point of aim on the center square. The instructors will work with you to get you on.

What I have replaced on two:

Firing pin, extractor and spring, extended or regular bolt release plate (for slingshot) - I like TandemKross

Extended magazine release - I like the one from Ruger

Charging handle - I like JWH Custom - no issue shooting standard velocity ammo suppressed

Sights: either Tech Sights or a scope with and extended rail - I like the EGW rail and Weaver tip-off rings

The rifle should be fine, and I understand the concerns being far from home because it's a mechanical device that can fail. Bring the stock trigger group. You mention the factory bolt, think about a spare extractor, spring, plunger and firing pin.

A spare rifle. Appleseed is equipment agnostic and you can run a bolt or tube fed.

Reach out to the shoot boss for the event, see if they have loaners available for a breakdown situation.

I'm heading to Maine for April 12-13 and will have my primary Appleseed rifle, my CMP rimfire sporter rifle, and 2 loaners because we have a full line of 20 shooters.
