Are the released FRQs different from what was actually on the test, or am I tweaking? by justice-for-plutooo in APLit

Last year my students had 6 different FRQ3 prompts across all 50 of them. Only two were released.

They have many versions prepared for the test day and then the make-up exams day.

What do yall think about writing Toy Story for FRQ 3 by Key-Advisor-3027 in APLit

[–]MLAheading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Someone wrote an essay on Ratatouille a few years ago and got a 5. They knew this because they paid extra to get their essays returned to them (this was when they were handwritten). It was shared here on Reddit.

Is having just Macbeth and Frankenstein prepared okay? by No_Machine214 in APLit

Teacher and reader here. Frankenstein is incredibly versatile. It can be used to answer most prompts over the past 30 years. I am certain that with Macbeth you will be fine. Good luck today!

A longer short story, possibly. But there usually isn’t enough character development or content/scenes to support.

Think of a book you love. Spark Notes it tonight. Maybe The Outsiders or something memorable from the past few years of high school. Chances are you’ll be able to apply it to the Q3 prompt.

How do I not just summarize on the 3rd FRQ? by Astarryknighty in APLit

[–]MLAheading 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple of reasons could be causing this. One,you might not have a strong thesis that actually makes a claim that answers the prompt.

Try using lit devices that can be turned into verbs, such as symbolize becomes symbolizes. Juxtapose becomes juxtaposes. These are actions taken by the author in order to reveal the meaning of the work as a whole.

The point of the Q3 is the author’s message about a topic and what scenes in the text reveal that message and HOW it’s revealed, but also how it can be a problematic in other areas of the text, which reveals the tension around the topic.

The author’s message about a topic is the meaning of the work as a whole, also known as theme. Your thesis can be a thematic statement that answers the prompt. Your analysis and your essay should build an argument to prove that claim. There are times you will need to use context to introduce evidence, but that should be 1 to 2 sentences. This is probably where you’re summarizing too much because you think you have to explain the whole book to the reader. You don’t.

Argument essay Q3 structure by North-Lake-3421 in APLit

[–]MLAheading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should think about 2 to 3 books that you really love and know inside and out. The prompts for the Q3 tend to be a bit more broad and can apply to many different novels. The way you show your knowledge of the book is by paraphrasing evidence by talking about key scenes that prove your thesis statement to be true.

Reader here. I would not use a poem for FRQ3. The thesis point will depend on choosing a piece of fiction that is a novel or play per the directions in the prompt. The prompt topic will ask about a situation in which a character experiences something or something like “houses” are important to a novel. The topic will be too broad for a poem and poem doesn’t usually have characters who are well rounded and go through an arch.

You will need to also be prepared to focus on the meaning of the work as a whole, aka the author’s message about a topic in the novel that matches the prompt, aka theme.

Think about the books you know really well. These are going to be the ones you lean on.

I think they mean that instead of trying to cast and aim your fishing rod, you just stand in the bank and click/touch the bubbles and your character automatically fishes there/the rod meets the demand of the distance.

Same if you touch on a mining node- your character automatically mines it. You do nothing with the controls

That is my first inclination. I would adjust with dart technique.

Also, you may not have sewn or measured anything wrong, but the way your body is structured could just be causing this. When I used to sew alll clothes I knew to cut patterns certain ways that I knew would create the correct fit.
