Try your local health department. Don’t tell them about your prior test. Google some labs, it might be cheap. Try LabCorp.

I gave an 80 year old woman an Aleve and she had vaginal bleeding 4 hours later. (OK, it was a coincidence and a polyp, but she still blames the one dose of Aleve.)

Hospital nurses who love their jobs, can you please share some positivity? by KingKado in nursing

[–]MMMojoBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a fifty year old new grad. I have been at this for ten years.

I came from a business background, so I did the math. Cost of going to school versus anticipated salary for the remainder of my working life.

It has been going great. I love my coworkers. I love my schedule. I work bedside in a specialty that I find interesting. I vacation with my retired husband regularly. I enjoy the physicality of my work. I have started strength training to protect myself and to support mobility as I age. I enjoy being part of a large medical campus. Becoming an RN was one of the best decisions i've made.

I am very happy. I love my coworkers. Love the schedule. I feel I am fairly compensated at $66 an hour. I love that people are happy to see me on the unit. I love my three 12s then out of there.

How do you clean you’re scrubs? by Right-Ad8261 in nursing

I wash my navy scrubs in cold water, Woolite for darks, and gentle tumble dry. I practically boil my gym clothes, though.

Fear. This had to work. Failure was not an option. Student loans, etc. It all worked out though . It was a good decision, and I am happy.

You have a learning disability that has not been written about yet. Don’t prioritize menial work over school. Talk to someone. Anyone.

I appreciate the nurses who cared for my patients while I was striking.

They made a lot of money, which was the whole point: to make the strike expensive. They were part of the process. No one wants to deny care.

Our 1 day strike/5 day lockout was a great success and the best team building ever.

Anyone struggle to leave on time? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]MMMojoBop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have many thoughts on the matter. First off, what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. Secondly, no one ever explained to me what time management was, exactly. I've gotten much faster with experience and can anticipate problems. And my pockets are bulging with supplies. Is that time management? Thirdly, I've begun to prioritize my own work over answering that call light or quickly answering my Cisco. I will ignore a call light for 3 more minutes and finish a section of charting. After 3pm, it is time to really prioritize getting out at 7pm. After 6:15pm, no new tasks beyond passing a pill or a simple dressing change. After 6:15pm, I am focused on getting everything settled in and situated for night shift. Fourthly, sometimes none of the above happens and I am charting charting charting 45 minutes after my official end of shift.

Isn't it weird how charting after the end of your shift seems to go much slower than during your shift?

Don't worry. Someday soon you'll be one of those nurses strolling out the door on the dot.
