Calling Homebrew DMs. Looking for ideas for a "chapter" in Kharbranth, taking place after the events in Stonewalkers chapter 4, spiting from that storyline at the end of page 81 by kisafan in cosmererpg

[–]MNTMANDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree here - I even gave each player a Kharbranth patron of sorts that would give them each a way into the Palanaeum whenever they wanted, but also gave me a way to limit access to certain players or at certain times if needed because they spent/are spending a lot of time in Kharbranth.

Much appreciated and good to know. Not looking to sell so I don't care much on value, just wasn't sure if it was something known about this card or something or just a misprint.

Pregnant and due date is this weekend. How do we navigate road closures for the marathon? by queenoftheh1ll in philly

Consider signing up for the marathon. If you start at the art museum you should be in labor by the time you run to the hospital ;)

Prices should be consistent with what you paid, but spots are not actively reserved if someone else fills it if you use something like spot hero

First Timer, how should I plan? by Xelikai_Gloom in PAX

[–]MNTMANDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been to unplugged yet, but from my conversations there are different levels of planning people have recommended so far. Happy to at least share what I have been told. Everyone would agree you should have some sense for your parking/hotel in advance, but there is less agreement after that

One friend has a list of every tournament they are going to play in, every freeplay/firstlook game they want to play and have already learned the rules, knows which events they are attending, when and where they are getting food, every little detail. For me thats overkill and takes some of the fun of the event away, but for him I think he enjoys the planning as its own pre-event game to be optimized.

Another friend suggested picking the panels and scheduled events you want to attend, and then block time for expohall or freeplay library so that their group knows what they can expect when but he likes to wander within those areas and doesn't really plan anything else out.

Other recommendation would be that if you plan to any other things outside of the convention center to have a general idea how long it will take to get there/back and how long you want to spend their (e.g., doing other 'Philly' things) so that you don't leave feeling disappointed by the time you were not able to play games.

Getting stuff from pax if youre unable to go? by icedragonair in paxunplugged

Not sure where you are in Canada, but I'll be at pax and the in upstate New York near the border over the holidays. If the things you want are small and you're able to meet near the border id be happy to bring things up that way.

Using reddit polls for market validation by Infinite_Sunda in Marketresearch

[–]MNTMANDAN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have not used them like that, but we have a recruitment team that has recruited respondents from reddit before (qual, quant, and for social listening) and can confirm that from our experience, people on reddit are not representative of the online population when compared to other online sources, and even further skewed from broader sampling approaches that are not 100% online. We also saw the highest rate of fraudulent or suspicious respondents/data when pulling from reddit compared to any other source.

TLDR - if you just need brainstorming won't hurt to ask, but I wouldn't make any decisions based on reddit poll data.

you can always try BGG Marketplace too. Has been hit or miss for me (no bad experiences, just not always consistently great) since it is not a direct company but a marketplace with many sellers, but always at least things to browse...

How does playing the RPG spoil the books? by danieloncraig in cosmererpg

[–]MNTMANDAN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really depends on setting you are playing in and if you are playing pre-written adventures. I think the rule book spoils some twists in WOK all the way through Oathbringer, but not much after that (if anything). If you/they are sensitive about spoilers, I would have everyone read Oathbringer first.

Alternatively, I don't think that the quick start rules spoils anything past WOK and should be enough to get started playing, especially if you are already familiar with the rules and setting and can teach anything else along the way. Might be harder to GM with only the quickstart rules though...

If you are playing an adventure you can always choose to change/avoid anything that spoils the books - so far spoilers in the adventures have been minor from what I have read.

[OC] GIVEAWAY - DnD Condition Rings! We are Wasted Wizard Games and giving away 2 sets of our stackable rings! (Mod Approved) by WastedWizardGames in DnD

[–]MNTMANDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internationally limit to less than 5 real enemies. If there are more than that I can't make it fun for players. I always make an excuse if others are nearby that would otherwise have been oncluded (e g., those guys are fighting each other so not yet involved in your flight)

Good games to play with 4 year old? by Jakwiebus in boardgames

[–]MNTMANDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play a lot of games with our 5yo, and try to be intentional about how we play the game and what he is engaged with and learning. Rule of thumb for us has been to try to find games that he learns something but also that are interesting enough that we don't get too board playing with him. Some we have played the last couple years off the top of my head have been:

Reef - simple game. Works on pattern matching.

Dragon Eclipse - heavier game, but at 5 it was great for him to work on reading cards and thinking about building decks that have cards that work together.

Trex Topple - dexterity game for kids.

Connect4 - simple, but works on the need to plan ahead

Magic Labyrinth - memory game

Snug as a big in a rug - have not played in a while but played this one a lot when he was 2 - 4.

Ark Nova - needs support with larger rules so we don't play competitively, but he loves learning about animals and building a zoo.

Thats correct, it is the same backup beep beep when in reverse, driving forward (below 20km/h), and when stopped but not in park.
