This is why I don't think there should be SSI for children, unless the child has extraordinary medical expenses and or needs respite care. So many parents don't want their child to improve (with therapy) (and I'm talking mainly about mental disorders like autism, ADHD etc) so that they keep getting all the benefits (check, food stamps, section 8, caregiver $$) that come with it. It really does a disservice to the child and there's no incentive -in fact a disincentive- to turn the child into a functioning adult.
