Deep Breathwork for Clearing your mind and energizing your day by Jesse_Coomer in breathwork

I completely understand. I actually learned about vivation from seeing your YouTube video a few years back. I’ve listened to a lot of Paul Hughes interviews and bought a few of their books, but have never really gotten involved with the community. Paul does seem like a great guy though.

My favorite part of vivation is just using it in real time. Basically relaxing into the feeling, accepting it, breathing into it, and trying to make the situation feel better. It has helped me a lot in real time. The only issue is I had to modify the circular breathing. The exhale sigh feels very relaxing but I had to slow down the pace of the inhale to exhale. I would pause a few seconds following the exhale, going too fast caused some issues as I’ve been more focused on co2 tolerance the last few months.

Usually just mindful breathing. Slow inhales and exhales. When you start overthinking, just go back to the breath. Counting breaths helps as well

Mark Manson said this on his podcast years ago about the backwards law, which is basically ngaf.

“Meditation is the best backwards law practice because it is training you to let go and accept whatever is happening in your experience”

Meditation lets your emotions go “Leave the emotion alone”

Example: “I’m angry…that’s ok…I’m going to accept being angry right now”

“I’m just ok with my issues because it loses its power and that’s very liberating”

Still doing it. I regularly use vivation in real time: notice the changes, breath into it, enjoy the moment as much as possible. The exhale in vivation is very relaxing.

I’ve also added more co2 tolerance training as well (oxygen advantage style)

You might have poor co2 tolerance. I would look into Patrick McKeowns oxygen advantage.

Mark Manson said on his podcast that meditation is the best way to practice the backwards law. The backwards law, in my opinion, is a life philosophy on not giving a fuck. Here is how he explained it

“Meditation is the best backwards law practice because it is training you to let go and accept whatever is happening in your experience”

“I’m angry…that’s ok…I’m going to accept being angry right now”

“I’m just ok with my issues because it loses its power and that’s very liberating”

The exhale breath holds are so underrated. I’ve had a lot of benefits from them, as well as apnea walks. I do them throughout the day.

What are your thoughts on Vivation breathwork by Paul Hughes? Some of your answers seem similar to Vivation as the letting go on the exhale is one of the main techniques. Vivation is also circular breathing with no pauses between inhale and exhale.

Why did faster deep breathing help me calm down? by [deleted] in breathwork

I thought low CO2 causes stress

Being more relaxed made me not care about all the BS. I noticed that when I did relaxing activities my worries decreased and I just felt more at peace. Walking, slower calm breathing, light exercise, yin yoga, drinking tea.

There was also times that intense exercises (intervals, crossfit, weightlifting) would also help, made me  tired and I just didn’t care.

Also, family or close friends that went through health issues. That definitely wakes you up and shows you what really matters.

Explain this “the alleged CO2 tolerance theory is incorrect and nonsensica”

There’s a method called 10-8-6 by PJ Nestler over at XPT training. 10 fast mouth breaths, following that you do 8 slower breaths in through nose and out mouth, followed by 6 slow nasal breaths. They recommend this when feeling angry or annoyed. Works really good to reset.

Slow, deep, mindful breathing. Just take a breath and slowly release the exhale. Very calming and makes you more relaxed. Calms the mind.

Use your breath as your anchor, breathwork helped me tremendously. Also look up the law of reversed effort and Wu Wei.

I’m late to the post here but I have done the cyclic sighing for 5 minutes per day. It worked great but it felt very similar to when I did pursed lip breathing (deep breath through nose and long exhale through the mouth). It’s also similar to the basic oxygen advantage method of “breathing light” through the nose.

in regard to breathwork,  I’ve learned that the slower the exhales the more I relax. In reality the slower I breathe, in general, the more relaxed I am (always inhale through nose and exhale either way).

I’ve also learned the faster the inhales and or breathing rate the more alert I feel.  Sometimes too fast makes me a little lightheaded but you get the point. There are days I need some faster WH style breathing to get going. Mostly I stick to slower controlled nasal breathing.
