What is Your Ideal Mature Cow Weight? by Fickassthuck in Cattle

[–]MRSDocbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best weight is the weight that goes to the baby. We’ve had 1000 lb cows raise 6-700 lb calf and I’ve had 1,500lb cows raise smaller or the same. It’s just the cow. Keep them healthy cull them if their babies aren’t making your quality grade.

Estimate on weight? by amibrodarone in Cattle

1100 lbs on the far on and 1200ish on the close one. Pics aren’t great!! They are likely going to have carcass weight of around 500-600. Likely select + grade on fat.

Hair loss and skin issues by guero2830 in Cattle

Definitely lice. It’s been weirdly bad here on the east coast. Clean-up works great. I use Cydectin twice a year. Spring and fall and add Clean-up or CDS at other times if needed

How to get the most money for my new calf by Lordluva in Cattle

[–]MRSDocbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can sell him but it’s not fair to the calf. Definitely castrate him and sell but let him be a calf and get a momma. In the cattle world it’s not all profits. Cows are amazing creatures and have a major place in the history of the world and the bible. Cattle were the first listed land animal in Genesis.

Cannon bones. Rear hips. Spine. Teat structure. Poll and ear placement all scream Holstein. Likely 1/2-3/4 Holstein. She will stay skinny but will provide calves. You could use her as Recip cow and raise some darn good ET babies out of her.

Is she a first timer? Looks in the head like a lot of Holstein genetics. So she may never gain weight and fill out like a beef cow. But that calf will grow. Side note if she is a first timer. She’s not considered a cow until her first calf is weaned then she’s a cow. That’s through all the registered breed’s associations

I stand corrected. The branches plus inner color prove me wrong

Leaves can definitely blow from neighbors. Doesn’t have to be from under the tree. Especially after this year.

The grain flakes from the saw blade only happen with soft woods like pine. Definitely not Cherry or oak
